  1. Dan D called that a homer in real time. Says he lost it.
  2. Has the feel of a 5-inning outing for Flaherty, but so far 0 runs through 2 innings.
  3. Flaherty starts have so much traffic. Bases loaded, 2 out.
  4. Few fanbases more than Cincinnati, IMO.
  5. Fair point. And really, as a team sponsor, would Saul Goodman & Associates be that much of a step down from Fieger Law?
  6. Last I checked Albuquerque had a real meth problem. Even high school teachers and fast food managers were enmeshed in it.
  7. Houston took 2 of the 3 to win the first series with the Tigers this season. So to be assured of a tiebreaker advantage, the Tigers need to sweep. Winning 2 of 3 would put the Tigers in good shape though because the 2nd tiebreaker is one’s record within one’s own division, even when the tie involves teams from separate divisions. Right now, the Tigers’ record against the AL Central is much better than the Astros’ record against the AL West.
  8. Now the the math is even more in the Tigers' favour. If the Tigers go 17-19 the rest of the way, they'd finish at 90-72. To match the Tigers at 90 wins (let's give the Guardians the tiebreaker as an assumption), the Guardians would need to finish 27-12 (.692 pace). If the Tigers go 18-18 the rest of the way to finish at 91-71, the Guardians would have to go 28-11 to match (.718 pace).
  9. Was listening to the MLB station on Siriux XM this morning and the co-host was extremely dismissive about the Tigers. In a 5-minute segment, basically put all their success this season down to the "easy schedule from the weakest division in baseball, of course you're going to put up a big run differential when you play Minnesota or the White Sox every other night". Said he saw the top 3 teams in the AL as being Toronto, Houston and Seattle, then a gap down to Boston and NY Yankees. Continued that someone has to be 6th for the playoffs so that can be Detroit. Didn't even say the name Skubal until around 30 seconds from the end. Not sure if the co-host recalls that the AL Central had 3 playoff teams last year and the Tigers knocked out the Astros.
  10. I posted 33 last night but I think I did the math wrong. Cleveland can max out at 102 wins so the Tigers could beat that with 30 more wins. KC can max out at 101 wins so the Tigers could beat that with 29 more wins. So last night the magic number was 31, now it's 30.

  12. And over the last 19 games Cleveland has lost 1.5 games on Detroit. They had closed to within 7 games before the Tigers launched this 13-6 stretch. Win tomorrow and it’s .700 ball for a 20-game block, but even with a loss it would be .650 ball for a 20-game block. That is an impressive response to the 1-12 swoon
  13. Haha, he sailed it! 7-5
  14. 8th inning Vest. 2 on 1 out.
  15. Fox announcers being too kind to Holton. That wasn't a 9.5 out of 10 difficulty.
  16. Holton better get the #9 hitter out.
  17. “Obviously”
  18. Dan Dickerson was saying on last night’s broadcast that the Tigers could be poised to get the lead back up to double digits. Reason being that when average teams go on a surge like the Guardians have (21-9 in past 30) they expend a lot of energy doing so and tend to fall back to earth.
  19. I'm going to miss this game because I'm attending a CFL game for the first time in a decade. Montreal Alouettes at BC Lions. Won a free pair at a drawing at a bar during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Until I read the preview this morning, I knew the name of exactly two BC Lions (the QB and kicker) but I've expanded my knowledge to now know the name of the head coach, the team's best wide receiver, its league-leading running back and its Australian punter. By the way, BC Place has a capacity of around 55,000 and has been configured for baseball for several spring training games it hosted. Built in the mid-80s, extensively renovated around 5 years ago. Has a roof with the part that's over the field being able to open on nice days, but I wouldn't call it fully retractable. Will host half a dozen FIFA World Cup games next year. It simply isn't a MLB-calibre stadium. If it was, I think Vancouver would check enough boxes for a future MLB team.
  20. Tigers win! Back to 20 games above .500 for the first time in awhile.
  21. Twins haven’t scored since the 3rd inning of yesterday’s game. 16 straight shutout innings by Tiger pitchers. 7-0 Detroit after 8.
  22. Whoa, careful there Wenceel. He just smashed a liner off Tork's hip for the 3rd out of the 7th. Torkelson seems to be OK.
  23. So Morton gave the Tigers 6 innings of 0 runs 2 hits 3 walks 1 HBP pitching. Nice!
