  1. Cossa will always will be linked with Wallstedt. Wallstedt has played 5 NHL games only. I may have had issues with drafting a goalie #15 overall, but once they did I see a way different timeline than with forwards or even defenceman. I fully expected a 22 year old, even a highly touted one, to still be in the AHL.
  2. Per this week's Athletic/NYT piece ranking goalies, of the 32 NHL starting goalies only two are under 26 - Luukonen in Buffalo (25) and Wolf in Calgary (23). Cossa is 22. Not to say there aren't some 1As or backups younger than 26. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6048097/2025/01/13/nhl-goalies-2025-tiers-rankings/
  3. I consider the Wings to be back in playoff contention, but their lousy first few months left little margin for error and the remaining schedule will not help.
  4. The Rams taking the risk of resting their starters even though it meant facing the Vikings instead of the Commanders turned out ok.
  5. Funny, in a few short years Holmes and Campbell have totally wiped thoughts of Same Old Lions out of my mind. It’s almost like a different franchise. Even after losing the 24-7 halftime lead to SF, I felt that was a huge missed opportunity but never felt the loss was because the Lions were cursed or destined never to win or it’s the latest in the long line of crazy losses. It just seemed like the moment getting a bit too big for the Lions and losing to a slightly more talented team on the road. Similarly, if the Lions lose to Washington it will feel like a stand-alone fluke and horrible loss, nothing to do with history. If they lose in the NFC Championship game, it will be frustrating but not SOL. I don’t expect them to lose even while knowing they very well might. In contrast, I don’t think Red Sox or Cubs fans really put thoughts of a final crazy twist out of their mind until the final out.
  6. Way to go, thanks a lot guys! 😉
  7. Goals everywhere. 5-3 Sharks with under 9 minutes to go. Husso has given up 5 goals on 22 shots.
  8. Bédard or Celebrini, who will have a better career?
  9. 2 goals in 1 game for Tarasenko?
  10. Streak in jeopardy. Sharks extend lead to 3-1 in the first minute of the 3rd.
  11. Absolutely no urgency by the Vikings. 61 seconds into this possession they’ve run three plays.
  12. Punting, even on 4th and 21, is giving up. If Darnold had thrown it away instead of getting sacked they could at least have tried a field goal.
  13. Ha, Darnold again waits until after play clock strikes zero before snapping the ball, but instead of a delay of game being called he gets strip sacked for a Rams TD. Rams lead 17-3.
  14. Have to admit I cheered when the Rams completed that first long reception. Dominant drive by LA to start the game. 7-0 Rams.
  15. There are no easy games in the playoffs and I sure hope this isn't a case of famous last words, but I actually expect the Lions to win rather comfortably. I'd be disappointed if the lead is under 10 points heading into the 4th quarter.
  16. Not sure who I'm cheering for tonight. My order for the NFC Championship game from scariest to least scary would be Philly, Minnesota, LA Rams. I would love to play the Rams in the NFC Championship game. But I think Minnesota has a better shot at knocking off Philly than the Rams would. I think I'll be going for the Vikings tonight but sometimes I don't even really know myself until the game starts and I see how I instinctively react to a big play.
  17. And another to look at it is that it took the Commanders until the last play from scrimmage to put away a New Orleans team that finished 5-12, a very good Eagles team but in Washington and with Philly's backup QB, an 8-9 Atlanta team in overtime at home, a 7-10 Dallas team, and a pretty good 10-7 Tampa team. None of that can compare to staying close to a 15-2 Lions team on the road. The Commanders' only win by more than one score after Week 7 was 42-19 hosting Tennessee in Week 13.
  18. Ty Cobb, a half century after the fact, at the 2:45 to 5:00 talks about a key game in the 1907 pennant race being his most tremendous thrill in baseball.
  19. Yep, and only played 6 games against teams 9-8 or better. 2-4 in such games in the regular season even including the win over Philly’s backup QB. Beat the Bengals by 5 in Week 3. Lions were 7-2 in games against teams 9-8 or better.
  20. Edit: Sorry, i thought this was the Commanders radio call they played at the end of the TV broadcast. update: Found it.
