  1. Good (in a way). Top of the 9th to the top of order would be his 2nd innings so not necessarily lights out.
  2. Except for Clase, they’ve already burned through their best relievers and the Tigers still have 8 more outs.
  3. Back in it! 5-3, 1 out, runner on 2nd. We just need a graphic to flash that shows the Tigers’ win probability after the grand slam was 0.2%.
  4. I was just about to reply to your original post, saying that.
  5. Tie game. Bases still loaded. Still only one out.
  6. Huge moment now. 2 on 1 out with Fry and Ramirez coming up.
  7. Need runs. Can’t assume anything even with Skubal. Bob Gibson gave up runs in a do or die game once.
  8. Skubal was ticked. Scoreless after 3.
  9. That’s a play that costs a series.
  10. Rocchio as the #9 hitter has been getting on all series.
  11. Yep. This lineup would look much different if Tork even delivered 30 HR 100 RBI .800 OPS. If he can’t give that, then move on and sign a 1B who can do that. Not that difficult.
  12. He’s from Vancouver and his parents are a lovely, humble Mennonite couple. It would pain me to have to egg their home if their son comes in and shuts down the Tigers.
  13. I have a box of cassette tapes containing audio bits from just about every game from the ‘84 season. I recorded them at the time - play by play calls of Ernie, Paul Carey’s 1-minute game recap he would record for WJR, conversations between JP McCarthy and Sparky Anderson, and morning game recaps by Eli Zaret to the WRIF morning crew. I really need to digitize this because I guarantee for 90% of this material I know none of us have heard it in 40 years. Maybe this offseason.
  14. One thing I don't hear mentioned is how many Americans the Tigers have. On Thursday, all 9 hitters in the starting lineup, plus all 6 pitchers used, were U.S.-born. 2 of the 3 pinch hitters - Ibanez and Perez - are not from the States, and Montero has pitched a couple of times this series, but that's it. A win for the Tigers today would be a win for America.
  15. The Padres scored 6 runs in the 2nd inning of Game 3. That was the last time they scored this season. 24 straight shutout innings after that.
  16. And the last two NL pennant winners - Philly in 2022 and Arizona in 2023 - were #6 seeds.
  17. Quite a pitchers’ duel at Dodger Stadium. LA has just extended its lead to 2-0 on Teoscar Hernandez’ second home run of the game. Through 6 2/3 innings, 3 hits for the Dodgers just 2 hits for the Padres.
  18. He already has a lot on his plate because the Tigers retained his services to procure the champagne and cigars for series-clinching celebrations.
