Why do people believe a player needs to be older to be a DH. If he is a good enough OBP guy but he can't field a lick, then use him the way he should be used and don't try to force it. He'd have to learn so much to be a Catcher that it would probably distract him from improving as a hitter. He's just a DH that can fill in the corners in the OF when they need it.

Wow, Didn't hear that. I hope he can work it out, but I remember Nick Esasky (who, if I remember right, was pretty comparable to Meadows hitting-wise). Esasky never came back from the Vertigo issue.
-
I think they've kind of moved on from him like they have with Austin Meadows. Has there been ANY news on him lately? It's almost like he never existed.

But what about Hunter Biden. Hunter Biden FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST HUNTER BIDEN !?!?!?!?!?!?

Maybe, just maybe Rodiguez likes it here because it's more low key. He went through something last year. The media in this town (and the fans) pretty much left him alone. Think he gets that in New York, Boston or Philly? Maybe his wife hates Los Angeles. I stay with a friend in LA for 8 weeks, after 10 days I couldn't wait to get home. It's not for everyone (unless you like endless generic strip malls and taking 2 hours to 10 miles). He might actually want to stay here. Even if he doesn't, then we earmark that $17 million to another free agent next year. Now if he bolts and Chris Illitch/Scott Harris refuse to spend anything after lopping over $50 million off the payroll - yeah, then I'll be pretty pissed, But again, it's all about 2025. It doesn't matter until then, really.

I spent 6 weeks in Los Angeles one year and while it was cool the first 10 days, after that it sucked. Strip Malls & Traffic Jams as far as the eye can see. Gonna go to the beach today? Well, even though the beach is 12 miles away, I don't want to invest in the 2 1/2 hours it'll take to get there, so no thanks.

The fact that our "sort of" GM did not cave and accept less than he wanted is a good thing for the future. Who knows, maybe E-Rod stays after all but even if he's gone, it's better to not accept 3 guys who'll never make a difference. Hold firm "I want one of these guys or no deal". Other team says "How about these guys instead?" "Nope". If that is what happened yesterday, then in the future (next year) other teams will know he means it. I mean, they aren't contending next year, even if the division is weak again. They'll probably make it interesting for a few weeks at the end this year, get us all riled up for next season and then start out something like 6-20 again and never catch up. Seems to be their thing now. It's all about '25 !

When I was doing afternoons on WTKA, we had Henning as a guest and he actually said Scott Sizemore was a better defensive player than Placido Polanco. I've kind of doubted his judgement since then.

Ding. Ding. Mutherfriggin' Ding !

Plus you KNOW the Tigers are going to be the front runners for the Ryan Anderson comeback !

Don't crack up, bend your brain, See both sides. Throw off your mental chains !

We don't know what Rodriguez is telling the Tigers privately, do we? I still don't mind the fact that Harris set a price with the teams he spoke to - they didn't meet the price, so he stood firm. In the future maybe teams will understand that he's not bluffing when he said "I want this or this or it's no deal" Honestly, would it benefit the team to trade him for the type of lousy deal Al used to get? No, not at all. Teams knew they could sucker Al into giving in and takin anything. I don't want to be the team that just takes on garbage just to take anything. I'm really not that disappointed in today and people calling Harris failure before his first season is over are just ridiculous. It's still about 2025/26. If they don't show improvement at all by 2025 then I will start to call him a failure. It is going to be quite interesting with anywhere from $40 to $90 million off the payroll next year what they do. If they want a star they'll have to overpay. Gotta give a team Exec/GM four years
-
I think it's a power move by Harris. He showed the other teams that in the future when he makes a demand he means it. Doesn't help us right now, but it probably does in the future. Teams will know he means it. I'd rather have this than Al Avila panicking and settling for garbage - and the other teams knowing they can play him.

Oregon, Washington, Florida State and Clemson coming to the Big 10 - joining UCLA and USC. There's 20. Is it over, are they done?

So the Commanders can't copyright their name because someone else in sports uses Commanders for something else? How many teams out there are named Tigers or Eagles? Plus some guy copyrighted hundred of potential names that the team could change to when they had no name, so that's hanging things up too? He has no use for the name, he's just copyrighting them to try to hamstring someone. How does that hold up in court? You can't do something like that out of spite. If you're not actually using it for anything legit, how could that hold up? I hate the name Commanders, but apparently every possible name they can change to has had a copyright filed by someone. This is so stupid. Who had Tigers first, our baseball team or Clemson? If it's us, we should sue Clemson, right? Come on man. Just name it whatever you want and site the Tigers or Eagles as examples. Or name the team The Washington RedHawks of the NFL and just call 'em Red Hawks for short. I liked Red Tails as a nod to the Tuskegee Airmen. But they won't have Jason Aldean sing the anthem at a Red Tails game, he'll lose all his racist fans.

So the logo is the same symbol that is used when you want to exit out of a page and it's in the same spot where that symbol would be? Brilliant, Elon, Brilliant.

Colorado is closer to space anyway Maybe with all the small towns in Alabama, Biden didn't want to try it because you know, you'll get shot in a small town. The song went #1, to nobody's surprise. Feeding into the type of paranoia that gets people fired at for things like knocking on a door or pulling into a driveway to ask for directions or delivering groceries to the wrong house. Alabama is very anti-Federal government anyway. So Dark Brandon should pull just about everything federal out of Alabama and cut off the tap too. Alabama is one of the biggest Taker states. They hate Socialism? They hate the federal government? Fine, you're cut off. See how you do on your own. Tommy Tuberville makes Louie Gohmert look smar............wait a second, that's going a bit too far......he makes Louie Gohmert look............wait..........oh hell, they're both stupid as hell.

Coronavirus: Already In a Neighborhood Near You
Motor City Sonics replied to chasfh's topic in Politics
I used to watch some guy's videos (Dusty Smith) called "Meet The Victims" where he'd show all their "COVID is fake" "Vaccines are bad" posts and then talk about how those same people had died. I think he was up to about 15 videos before he stopped -

Bobby Jr, is that you? -
If you were another GM in the majors, you'd tell your assistants "I don't care if I am in the middle of getting surgery, if Al Avila calls, you patch that phone call through to me"
-
Okay, but still. If there isn't a guy you'd covet in the trade, then just say no. Use the money you're saving in another capacity. Don't take junk just to take junk. I want to give a shoutout to Jose King, Sergio Alcantara and Dawel Lugo........wherever they are.
-
If you are the GM here. You look at one prospect you'd want from each (potential) team that you might covet and think would be a fair swap and if that name isn't in the deal, you say no thank you and work the draft. Better than panicking. I mean, the JD Martinez trade........they'd have been better off taking the extra draft pick (well most people would, anyway, maybe not the previous regime)
-
Would they be better off keeping E-Rod and letting him go free agent..............wouldn't they get a draft pick for him? And if we have trust in our scouting department, would that draft pick be better than some 2nd or 3rd rate prospect?
