  1. That's what I believe, but everything seems to be pointing to this team moving on, unless they think that it might have some sort of psychological effect on him, but I don't see a major league team making a bunch of moves just to put pressure on one guy. First it was telling Keith and Malloy to learn first base, now the Torres move. He's capable of 30 HRs, there some sort of disconnect somewhere. If they can reconnect it, he's a great part of the lineup. They fixed Parker Meadows, why not Tork?
  2. It is very interesting. I guess if I had my way the infield would be Keith - Tork - Torres - Sweeney - Nagvitago - Jung But I think they will start Jung at Toledo in 2025, even if he has a great ST. With thes infielders on my list......... vs. Right Keith 1b Torres, 2b Sweeney, ss Jung, 3b Carpenter, rf Meadows, cf Greene, lf Rogers c Tork dh vs. Left Torkelson, 1b Torres, 2b Navigato, ss Vierling, 3b Perez, rf Meadows cf Greene, lf Rogers, c Whatever Matchup Works, dh Rogers & Dinger would platoon based on when Rogers needs a rest Torkelson's future here is very murky. I am sure they are probably trying to trade him, but they probably wouldn't get much in return right now. Hanging onto Baez seems so stupid at this point. I just don't get it. Just admit the mistake, pay him and send him off, he's only in the way now. I hope he stuns us all,. but it just seems pointless now.
  3. I guess the Toddfather gets to see all the warts from Game 1. This team can't seem to recognize goaltending talent.
  4. Sure. Dude hit 31 home runs in a season just a year ago. Don't give up on him just yet. What this move might be doing is lighting a fire under his chair too. I think this probably means Zack McKinstry's roster spot might be in trouble because I don't see them keeping Sweeney and Zack. This also maybe puts a little bit of pressure on Javier too. I am not expecting Torres to play SS very often, maybe in a pinch, but every infielder they add means one less on the active roster. I don't think they are done. I think there is another starting pitcher signing coming, but someone like Jose Quintana, We really don't have a solid second lefty in our rotation and he would fit into their one-year (maybe two) plan. I don't think they want Jackson Jobe in the rotation to start the season unless he just blows everyone away at ST. I am not expecting any long term deals. Santander gets talked about, but I don't know why a power hitter would want to sign here and I am not sure he's ever going to repeat what he did last year or even come close (Brady Anderson Jr.). I know the Tigers and Jack Flaherty have a good relationship, but Jack wants his big deal now and that's what he should want. He probably wants 5 years / 120 million, something like that. Will he get that much? No idea, but with his previous injuries and coming off of an outstanding year, I'd be shocked if he signs for anything less than 4 years. This might be his only shot at a monster payday. Right now............ Catchers (2) - Rogers, Dingler Infielders (6) - Baez, Ibanez, Keith, Torkelson, Torres, Sweeney Outfielders (5) - Carpenter, Meadows, Greene, Perez, Vierling Starters (4) - Skubal, Cobb, Olson, ???? Bullpen (8) - Brieske, Faedo, Foley, Holton, Lange, Maeda, Vest, Hurter, I see the rotation right now as Skubal, Cobb and Olson are in and then the last two spots are up for grabs between Mize, Montero, Jobe, Manning, Maeda or Free Agent. They could go into the season with a 4 man rotation, using the Opener strategy that worked so well last year.
  5. Tired of hearing about how he gets screwed in the draft lottery. Still not an excuse. Besides, it's not the draft where he's failing, it's signing decent veteran players. It just shouldn't take this long to claw your way up to 8th in your conference. Not a lot to ask there.
  6. Tork is not out. Keith and Tork will probably swap between First Base and DH, most of the time.
  7. Oh great, now no room for Hao-Yu Lee, he was going to be the breakout star this year Wings fire their coach Tigers sign Torres Big sports day around here. Who will the Pistons trade for, Paul George? The Pistons have already equaled last year's win total. Monty Williams sucks.
  8. The Eberflusing continues. You can take the Bears away from Eberflus, but can't take the Ebeflus out of the Bears. This team has lost 5 games this year just on coaching alone.
  9. Real barnburner of a game tonight.
  10. I think they are better than this, but LaLonde just wasn't getting the most out of them, but if this doesn't get any better Steve Yzerman should absolutely be on the hot seat. Annoying to see how well Hronek did last year and how well Jake Walman is doing this year. That's on Yzerman. I refuse to believe that it should take this long just to be in the upper half of a conference. There were signs of this last year too. They were playing really well and then Larkin got hurt and they flat-out quit and the first game he came back they started playing well again. Larkin is not Gretzky, he should not have that much of an impact. No one player should. That was quite alarming.
  11. Betcha these team plays with a lot of on Friday.
  12. The Boognish also got fired.
  13. After the efforts in Montreal and against St. Louis, something had to happen. Would have happened Tuesday if it wasn't Christmas Eve. I'm sure LaLonde knew it was coming and he's still going to get paid -- he'll be fine.
  14. I'm 60. How the hell did that happen?
  15. I won WHAMAGEDDON ! First time ever !!!!
  16. I have a feeling he's not going to be on anyone's roster on Opening Day if these numbers are real. Takes a lot of nerve to ask that the year after your OBP falls off a cliff. Tigers do need a bat, but I think they'd be better off with the rotating 3b situation. AJ likes making so many in-game moves anyway. If they can do for Jace Jung what they did for Parker Meadows and Colt Keith, we might be way better off than sinking 27-30 mil a year into one declining player.
  17. Wow, Bregman really thinks he's better than he is. Now I get it, you ask for more than you want so you can appear like you are "coming down" to match an offer. But 11 years and $350? . Even if the nutso Mets and Dodgers wanted a 3rd baseman, with the way they throw money around, wouldn't bite on that.
  18. But the Rams also traded a bunch of high round draft capital and they keep rolling along. Because they can draft better in the 3rd/4th round than many teams can in the 1st or 2nd and that's the system our GM comes from. Whatever they're doing with scouting and evaluation, it's working. If I was looking for a GM for my team, I'd be looking for someone in the Rams or Lions organizations. The Niners kind of got lucky. They overspent for Trey Lance, who is a bust but then turned around and got their starting QB with the last pick of a draft. But how good is he? The Niners are in a very tough spot here. Brock Purdy is going to want high end QB money, and I am not sure he's much more than Daniel Jones. He was put into a great situation with lots of pieces in place and a great head coach for a QB, but I just don't think Purdy is a 40 mil a year guy. I think what's happened with the Niners is several years of long playoff runs have put extra mileage on their players and it all caught up at once. Bowing out early this year gives them more time to heal for next year, where they could be really good again. So they need more of a reset than a rebuild, at least for the next year or two. This has happened, to a lesser degree, to the Chiefs too, but they have weathered it much better. Kind of helps when your Tackle false starts and never gets called and the league wants Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl every year.
  19. I feel like the Jets were really stupid in firing Robert Saleh, but actually for Robert, it was a great move. He's away from that mess. I don't think he was the reason the Jets were terrible. I think he gets another shot at being a Head Coach (as long as he has a No Prima Donna QB clause). If Aaron Glenn gets the Saints or some other Head Coaching job, I wouldn't mind the Lions bringing Saleh in as a DC.
  20. Might not need a rebuild. Maybe just more of a reset.
  21. While the Wings flop around like fish out of water, the Pistons are a team that fights. This team that won 14 games all of last year is now 13-17 and may equal last year's win total before the New Year. They beat the Lakers on the road. They could have melted down with this "West Coast Road Trip" excuse thing that the Wings used this year. They've been up and down, but they scratch and claw in most games and rarely get blown out and are only a couple of plays away from being .500, which doesn't seem like much, but for this team it's a near miraculous turnaround. So now the Lions, Tigers and now the Pistons have all passed the Red Wings. This lifeless squad is back at the bottom. Ken Holland's been gone for six years now, can't blame him anymore. (and Jaden Ivey is a much more important player than most of us believed, they are a much better team when he plays. Monty Williams wouldn't play him last year). If the Pistons can turn things around, why can't the Wings?
  22. You say that hiring the old red wings boys club had failed, but you want Larianov to come coach? Has he coached before?
  23. Doesn't seem to be any urgency on or off the ice. Just a throwaway season. Is that what you want to sell to your season ticket holders? Sick of waiting. No excuse for this. Everyone should be on the hot seat. Absolutely everyone.
  24. I thought that was a Timothee Chalamet song !
  25. Does anyone remember this.................were any of you there Tigers playing the Brewers. Saturday, June 9, 2001 Ray King comes into pitch for Milwaukee in the bottom of the 8th. Bobby Higginson hits a ground ball dribbler down the first baseline. King picks it up and doesn't just tag Higginson but swipes at him hard and Higginson took exception (as he should have). The two benches clear, but not a whole lot is going on, just a gathering of puffed out chests, basically. A fan jumps out of the LF stands (bullpen was still in right back then). and starts running towards the gathering by first base, he gets to the edge of the dirt between SS and 3B when the ball boy in the left field corner bolts from his chair and tackles this dude by the mound. It was incredible and the crowd and players from both teams were cheering him. I think the kid's name was Jeremy Jackson (there was a brief newspaper write-up the next day), he was a high school football player, but man did he close on that guy. What was that guy gonna do when he got to the players? Get in the fight? Did he think the Tigers players would back him up or something? I think after he hit the ball Higginson said "you mother f***er" and King thought was was talking about him when Higginson was saying it to himself. He was from Philly after all, that's practically a Christmas greeting there.
