Wait, Donny Kelly Baby is now a manager? Gee, you think Jimmy Two-Packs had a role in that decision? -

One of the last home games of 1991 was heavily-attended as Cecil Fielder was on Home Run 49 and nobody had seen 50 in years. Ron Cameron asked me and my friends "Are you here just to see Cecil hit No. 50?" and I said "No, I'm here to see Chet hit No. 5". And Chet did just that. Loved him. Always seem to play with a big smile on his face. Didn't seem the least bit jaded. I know his last years were a terrible struggle and I am glad he's not struggling anymore. One of the most underrated Center Fielder's in MLB history, but not in these parts. -
I leapt out of my seat screamed when this happened. Always my #1 memory of Chet Lemon.

This Tiger team is very similar to the 2021 San Francisco team that went 107-55. If you look at their Baseball Reference page, no individual player stats blow you away, but they just seem to get the big hit at the right time. Plus the pitching for that Giants team looks a lot like ours. Doesn't matter of Tork is hitting only .233. He's making the hits count. Who cares if he strikes out with nobody on in the 3rd inning I thought Andy Ibanez had a monster BA against lefties, but he's only hitting .263, but when he does hit, it's usually a big one. They just find ways. -
Will Tigers Pony up for Skubal

But think about it. Partially because of what the Tigers did last year and what the Rays have been doing - the value of Starting Pitchers might not be as high it once was. Starting pitchers are limited more than ever with number of innings and the Tigers proved that you can win without having a dominant rotation. I mean, they had TWO starting pitchers, basically, the last two months of the season. I don't know, but I think it's better to have depth than height with starting pitchers. Having 4 or 5 good starters and a great bullpen is better than having a dominant ace and then mediocrity. With the one ace you may almost guarantee that 1 out of 5 games, but with depth you can aim towards realistically winning 3 out of every 5. Over 162 games that's a big, big difference. This 10/400 number ain't gonna do it. Not with Steve Cohen in the game. Skubal could get north of 50 million a year or one of these super long deferred-money deals. If the Tigers offer 10/400, Cohen's gonna offer 15/700 or something insane like that. It's all play money to him like it was for Mr. I back in the day. A lot of it will depend on how close the Tigers actually get to winning it all and how well guys like Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle and Jackson Jobe develop. Right now the Tigers have 1 dominant ace, 2 really good dependable starters, a question mark that may finally be showing he's worth the 1/1 pick and a rookie who doesn't know what he's doing yet, but is still looking pretty good. They are in great shape. If they lose Skubal right now to an injury, they'd still be in the top third of the league in starting rotations and I think that's what they are going to try to build forever here. Build such a solid foundation in all aspects that losing one or even two stars will not slow you down. Heck, to me their Offensive MVP last year was Parker Meadows. When he finally returned those two months, they were a completely different team (once he figured it out) -- and the fact that he hasn't even played this year and they have the best record in the AL should give us a ton of confidence in the future. Everyone is playing and everyone seems to be contributing, especially now that Sweeney and Keith have started hitting. They just have a hell of a coaching staff and they seem to have an incredibly good development staff. They aren't asking guys to try to do things they aren't good at. They're simply putting them in places where they know they can thrive. The downside of that is other than maybe 2 or 3 players (Greene, Torres, Torkelson), nobody is starting anywhere close to 160 games, but it seems like we're going to have 10 or maybe even 11 guys who play in 120 games. AJ Hinch is playing Chess here. An added bonus to that is every player on that bench needs to be mentally ready because they might get put in the game at any time and I think that just sharpens up EVERYONE. I am shocked it hasn't happened yet, but I fully expect them to have to put a pitcher in the field of play because they exhausted their bench. -
Why AI can never be trusted. Ever. I googled. Matt Vierling Seattle Mariners and trade and this is what it said.

Matty V hit a home run and walked 2 more times yesterday. I don't think he's going to need much more time at Toledo. I bet we see him for the Texas series. And Jace Jung can go back to Toledo where he can learn some hitting. -
This is just MLB's way to try to cool off the Tigers. They made it rain in Denver. Denver is stupid anyway. What a dumb city. Bunch of Mile-High Hippy Freaks. Screw Denver. And screw the Avalanche and the Nuggets and especially screw those stupid Broncos who got rid of the bronco snorting through the D logo on their helmet, which was one of the coolest helmets ever. Yeah, screw them, man.

I hate this, though. With 8 or 9 All Stars, our team is going to be very tired.

Same here. That last game was very emotional. Hanging on the wall right next to me is the lanyard with the ticket and some dirt from the infield, it's one of my most prized possessions. I buried a friend that day and coudn't imagine going back in there. I avoided driving anywhere near there when they were tearing it down.

Debra Winger was supposed to play Dottie Henson (after Demi Moore turned it down). I can't imagine anyone but Gena Davis in that role. Winger quit after Madonna was cast. She thought it wouldn't be a serious movie. But as bad as Madonna can be in some movies, she was terrific in that. And as far as being a Prima Donna, she wasn't like that at all. She trained really hard to get better at baseball, but she did grow up with a few brothers, so so wasn't a total sports novice.

Scene shot at the players entrance at Tiger Stadium......The scene where Maris puts a literal X on the ball and the fan gets mad............when they were asking extras if any of them can speak or sound like a New Yorker, a guy raised his hand and Billy Crystal walked over and said "You think you can sound like a New Yorker, oh yeah, let me hear it." and the guy said "Go f**k yourself, Crystal" and Billy said "Yep, he's the guy". LOL

I just watched the last episode of Adolescence. I need to watch Dumb and Dumber right away just to break even again. Wow, that hit HARD. That was devastating.
-
Yes. Bull Durham, For Love Of The Game, Field Of Dreams........and there is one more...........partially filmed in Detroit, with WRIF being part of the story (okay, the movie is not ABOUT baseball, but Costner plays a retired baseball player in it).
-
People can ruin any entertaining movie with that nonsense. Just chill out and enjoy the story (not you, the Realism Police). Yes, Tim Robbins had a HORRIBLE pitching delivery. Robbins grew up playing hockey and basketball

I want a Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup. I don't care if it's Edmonton, Toronto or Winnipeg. I know a lot of you hate the Leafs. I don't. When the Red Wings were owned by the Norris family and traded good players for not getting haircuts (look it up, it's 100% true), and made stupid moves just to try to break the players union, I turned my back on them and became a Leafs fan. Mostly because Sittler scored 10 points in a game. I watched them every Saturday night on Channel 9. Then the Leafs brass started doing the same stupid **** the Wings owners did. Traded Lanny just to spite Sittler, a near riot broke out at Maple Leaf Gardens that day. I got back into the Wings after Illitch bought them and made moves designed to actually try to win. But I really want Winnipeg to win the whole thing. Because they had their hearts ripped out by the league when they stole their team and moved it to Phoenix (only to see that fail). Because they had a giant portrait of the Queen at their barn. I'm not a fan of the Queen, but it's just so goddamned weird, how can you not love it? Plus, they're the little guy in all of this. Hockey just means more to Canada. I am rooting for Canada these days for other reasons too. 32 years without a Cup. Maybe this is the year.

Wow, I remember getting excited like that in playoff hockey.................BARELY.
