Coronavirus: Already In a Neighborhood Near You
Motor City Sonics replied to chasfh's topic in Politics
Well, there may not be an end to this. If enough people refuse to protect themselves or others around them this will continue. COVID is here for good. We are nowhere near herd immunity and so it will continue. Polio still exists but we vaccinated enough people worldwide to limit the spread. -
Coronavirus: Already In a Neighborhood Near You
Motor City Sonics replied to chasfh's topic in Politics
I'm not saying that at all. I'm just saying this latest spike is being driven by school being back in session and kids gathering and many of them not adhering to mask policies or districts simply not having them. And covid may have little effect on kids, but kids bring it home. -
Coronavirus: Already In a Neighborhood Near You
Motor City Sonics replied to chasfh's topic in Politics
Hey, it was just speculation on my part. The timing would seem to indicate that people started gathering at a higher rate in the last few weeks. I am sure that a lot of schools started their year enforcing mask policy and then dropped their guard, got lax. My girlfriend is a teacher and she's noticed that. My friend's wife said her school has gotten beaten down by the more obnoxious parents and just worn out trying to enforce just about anything. The kids gather, they take it home with them and it spreads. Outside of cities, in more Republican-leaning areas they are still reluctant to mask up and the vaccine rate is lower. I can't speak to what goes on in Chicago schools or anywhere else, it might be the way they report and release their stats, but there is evidence that schools could be driving this new spike. A lot of other state start school in early or mid August. They might have had this happen a month ago. https://www.clickondetroit.com/health/good-health/2021/10/14/107-michigan-covid-facts-delta-surging-rapidly-masks-in-school-starting-winter-worse-than-last-year/ Here are some highlights of the article. There were 393 outbreaks and clusters in K-12 schools over this time period. School cases and mask policies K-12 schools reported the greatest number of new outbreaks and clusters (81) this week. There were an additional 11 new outbreaks in childcare and youth programs, for a total of 92 outbreaks in settings primarily with 0-19-year-olds. These school/child program outbreaks account for 57% of all known new outbreaks in Michigan. State officials said 7% of school districts (36 total) have rescinded their mask policies. 42% (222 out of 533) of K-12 school districts in Michigan have mandatory mask policies. School districts with mandatory mask policies cover 60% (748,181 out of 1,252,808) of K-12 students. 7% of K-12 school districts (36 total) have rescinded mask policies. Districts without mask requirements are experiencing higher case rates. The 5- to 18-year-old school population case rates are higher and rose faster in districts without mask requirements. Districts with complete or partial mask requirements have lower COVID case rates and slower increases in those rates. Districts with mask rules might also have other prevention measures that can contribute to lower transmission levels. COVID cases in children Each day in Michigan, more than 425 children under age 12 become infected with COVID-19. On average, there are 50 more children getting infected per day in Michigan than last week Pediatric case rates are up to 305.6 cases per million. Last week, that number was 269.4 cases per million. The pediatric hospital census* is averaging approximately 34 per day (last week: 30 per day) Case increases in Michigan are largest in school-aged children (5-18 years old). School-aged children saw a rapid rise in COVID cases beginning over the school reopening period, and that trend has remained high following their return to school. Outbreaks Officials identified 161 new outbreaks in the past week. The increase in outbreaks since last week (364 to 393) includes increases in high schools (123 to 133), middle schools (89 to 92), and pre-K/elementary schools (146 to 164). Outbreaks among school administration declined (from five to four outbreaks). The greatest number of new outbreaks after schools was among long-term care/skilled nursing facilities, with 30. There were seven new outbreaks in manufacturing/construction settings. There were six new outbreaks in retail settings. Eight other types of settings had at least one new outbreak in the last week, Michigan officials said. The total number of active outbreaks is up 6% from last week. Cases by age group 31-50-year-olds are beginning to increase to the highest age group after school children. Previous COVID surges had larger proportions of cases found in adults. 10-19-years-olds are experiencing the greatest case burden, at 596 daily cases and 474.8 cases per million per day. After 10-19-year-olds, the highest case rates, in order, are in these age groups: 30-39, 40-49, 20-29, and 0-9. -

At least this place doesn't have that stupid Bet Rivers add with the obnoxious guy pointing at me angrily. Who the hell thought THAT image would entice one to go to their site? -

When did the Giants sign Brandon Inge?

I'm really gonna miss that lead singer from Smash Mouth..................said no one, ever. (sorry if you happen to like them but they are maybe the worst band I've ever played in my radio career which goes back to 1987) Smash Mouth & Sugar Ray, in large part, killed the Alternative format.

I think it's awesome that someone can remember enough of their acid trip to put it down on film. I just remember the stucco ceiling looking like it was boiling and my hallway stretching back and forth. Colors stood out a bit too. So many colors. Beautiful colors.

Hello out there, were on the air it's hockey night tonight! The tension grows, the whistle blows, and the puck goes down the ice. The goalie jumps, and the players bump, and the fans all go insane. Someone roars: "Raymond scores!" At the good old hockey game! Oh! The good old hockey game! Its the best game you can name! And the best game you can name, is the good old hockey game! Second Period. Where players dash, with skates a-flash, the home team trails behind. But they grab the puck, and go bursting up, and their down across the line. They storm the crease, like bumblebees, and they travel like a burning flame. We see them slide the puck inside, its a one- one hockey game! Oh! The good old hockey game! Its the best game you can name! And the best game you can name, is the good old hockey game! Third Period. Last game in the play-offs too. Oh take me where the hockey players face off down the rink, And the Stanley Cup, is all filled up, for the champs who win the drink! Now the final flick, of a hockey stick, and a one gigantic scream: "THE PUCK IS IN! THE HOME TEAM WINS!" At the good old hockey game oh! The good old hockey game! Its the best game you can name! And the best game you can name, is the good old hockey game!

Welcome to a new season. The kids are playing and I think they'll get a lot of ice time. They didn't bring 'em up to sit 'em down. If they need to marinate more, they'll go down to GR. If the Goaltending does well this season the Wings will be closer to a playoff spot than they are to the bottom. The Wings weren't all that bad last season. They were closer than you think. Their goaltending was crummy early in the season, but Thomas Greiss very suddenly turned it around and from that point forward the Wings were a tough team to beat and lost a lot of 1-goal games. I don't think they win tonight, but I think they'll play tough and lose 5-3, with TB having an empty net goal. Wings goal scorers tonight will be Pius Suter, Robby Fabbri and Tyler Bertuzzi. Lucas Raymond and Mo Seider will each net an assist. I can't watch tonight, you will have to let me know how they look. I did see that Slap Shot was on and as soon as I turned it on it was the "Hey Hannrahan!" scene. And for a brief moment, all was perfect.

2021/22 Regular Season Thread

The entire NHL only 4 players are unvaccinated. One of them is ours. Another one got COVID and now has a heart condition. -
for the second time probably ever I agree with Trump. Don't vote Republicans. Don't vote. Stay at home. (the other time was shortening sentences for non-violent drug offenders).

When will the Lions get their first win?
Motor City Sonics replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Lions
It would not shock me to see them stun the world and beat the Rams because that would be such a Lions thing to do. This week is possible because I think they will be fired up for their coach, the anti-Patricia. I think they'll beat the Eagles, because the Eagles are hot garbage I'll go with 4-13 Eagles, Vikings, Bears and Broncos -
Seems like they are just loaded with injuries. Trout and Rendon, they both make a fortune and they always seem to be hurt now. They will have to pay to keep Ohtani too, but I think they will be the ones who sign Correa. I think we'll end up signing someone for a year Maybe Javy Baez or Simmons. I think Seager goes back to the Dodgers.

You need to keep the Angels in the mix there too........They seem to think spending a lot of money is the way.

Jesus, Kyrie Irving is a f'ing idiot. He's one of these guys who thinks he's a genius. He also thinks the earth is flat, which instantly disqualifies the genius status. He's poison. This is all about getting attention. Someone I work with lost her job for not getting the shot. She's not a right winger. I just don't get it.

Hell yes Bill, you ARE a Rocket Man.

You know, that with Tarantino's universe and the way everyone is connected that one day we are going to find out that the Gimp is a descendant of Calvin Candie or maybe even the American-born son of Hans Landa or something like that. Maybe QTs last film (he swears he is stopping at 10) will be the saga of The Gimp and how he wound up in the clutches of Zed & Maynard and how Marcellus Wallace was the man who freed him.
-
oh, they're still brothers -- in Hell. I wonder what Mr. Wallace's friends did with the Gimp.
