  1. To me in this day and age where we have other technology things like 40 times should at best be used as a confirmation to what you see on tape or in other avenues.

For instance you just don't know if that guy wasn't a 100% when he ran, had a bad day or something else that contributed to a sub par time.

Likewise if a guy runs a time faster than he appeared on film it could just be a one off thing. Guys know how important their combine times are so they hire the best trainers, coaches, dieticians etc. leading up to it to maximize their times. I've seen videos where coaches have shown guys the best running technique specifically for the 40.  After the combine they may or may not go back to what their "regular" speed is.

Detroit Lions Detroit Lions: Giovanni Manu, OT, British Columbia – MILLEN Grade

Sorry, Lions fans, for giving you a Millen grade, but this isn’t the best selection. Giovanni Manu is a late-round prospect, so had Detroit made this pick a round later, I wouldn’t have minded it. However, surrendering a third-round pick in 2025 to get him is a huge mistake. A huge, kielbasa type of mistake.

I think a Millen grade is a little harsh but I too am not crazy about giving up a 2025 third for him. OTOH assuming we are what we expect to be next year it would equate to around the 100th pick, so giving up the 100th pick next year to get a 150ish ranked prospect this year isn't that outrageous.

  3. I was reading up on Vaki and I read that he shared the backfield with Najee Harris in HS and it caught me off guard considering Harris was drafted in 2021 but now I see he delayed his start of college so that makes more sense.

This is my first wtf pick.

It’s not the player but the value.

I can’t believe anyone was talking him this early and he’s not worth a 3rd rounder.   Not good use of draft capital and assets.

Don’t like it but still not as bad as using your last pick in the draft on a punter in the 4th round.

After googling him I found that several teams did host him for private workouts including the Chiefs, Cowboys and Lions and some cowboys bloggers mentioned him as a possible day 2 pick for them so he was atleast on some teams radars.

  5. I liked when he was interviewed right after being drafted the reporter asked him to tell Detroit what type of player they can expect to get and he said something like "They're getting a great player but an even better person." Followed that up with how he was excited to get straight to work, also liked how he had his pee wee football pic sewed into the inside of his jacket. Just came across as a great kid and somebody that will be easy to root for.

Who doesn’t love a full revamp of the most suspect position on the team.    Replacing UDFA talent like Jacobs & Lucas with 1st and 2nd round players is massive.

On paper we should be massively improved with Davis, Robertson, Arnold, Rakestraw and maybe Mosely.  If Arnold and or Rakestraw are legit from day 1 like Sauce, Woolen, Witherspoon or Christian Gonzalez pre injury then dare I say the secondary could possibly even be a strength.

  7. Damn I'm late to the party on this but just realized that we indeed must have traded our Vikings 2nd for Carlton Davis and not our own. I seem to recall at the time of the trade there were conflicting reports but I was of the understanding that it was our own that we traded but I guess not.

  8. I have no problem trading up with a third to get their man even if they "lost" the trade by the standard charts.

The thing we have to keep in mind is that we had a surplus of draft picks the previous couple years including 6 in the first 3 rounds last year, all of whom will be on the team so eventually you have to start consolidating picks. There isn't unlimited roster spots.

We're at the point where the roster spots we have available need to be used on high end talent not your standard mid to late round draft pick so if you have to "overpay" to get that high end talent so be it.

Isn’t it ironic that after many seasons of tanking and accumulating numerous high 1st round picks, our best pitcher and hitter (so far) is Skubal (round 9) and Carpenter (19th round). Don’t Cha think?

Kinda like how of all the  players that Al traded away arguably the 3 best players came from Justin Wilson and Daniel Norris in Candy, Paredes and Olson.
