Week Six: Detroit Lions (4-1) @ Kansas City Chiefs (2-3)
RandyMarsh replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Yep, if they don't throw that flag KC is looking at a long FG with a shaky kicker and the Lions getting the ball back with a minute left. Very easily could be a +4 or +7 difference for the Lions with no flag, instead they are looking at a -7 difference so the flag very well could have been worth 10+ pts for KC. -

You can throw a DPI flag on every play if you are going to be calling that. -
You obviously want to win every game but seeing as it's an AFC team and on the road losing this one wouldn't be that damaging so wouldn't be the worst game to play it safe with in terms of health.

Rivers is on the ballot this year, some say he will get in first ballot. How he fairs will be a good idea on where Goff is at in the HOF argument since I think they were pretty similar from a perception standpoint. Both were viewed positively but never really got the love they probably deserved from the media and were never viewed as the tippy top guys at their positions. Of course for Phil that was fair cause as good as he was he wasn't Peyton, Brady, Brees or prime Rodgers.

Ha, I wonder if that has ever happened before? It probably has if you count beating a QB in week17/18 and the first round of the playoffs but not sure about doing it back to back in regular season games.
-
That's true but I think with defensive metrics becoming more prevalent that line of thinking is starting to go away with insiders and voters, it probably still exists with the common fan though.

Just another example of people putting too much emphasis on the 10-20% of the time things don't go as planned instead of the 80-90% of the time they do. It would be like solely judging an NBA player by how well he performs when the offense breaks down and it's forced to put up a shot to beat the 24 or an mlb player by how well he hits tough pitches or how he performs behind in the count. You just don't see that in other sports or positions except for qb for some reason.

Week Five: Detroit Lions (3-1) @ Cincinnati Bengals (2-2)

I get the argument about not beating anybody good but I also think in the NFL "style points" should mean something. The Lions don't just squeak by they dominate these teams, I don't care the who the team is in the NFL that simply doesn't happen on a regular basis unless you are an elite team unlike in college fb. I remember the 07 Pats used to do that and they are the last team that comes to mind that had as many lopsided affairs as we have on a regular basis. Also its not like this team has no track record, have the best record in football the past 2+ yrs with most of the same pieces so that should carry some weight. -
I see what you did there.

There was just a post that I responded to that said Schwartz could've possibly had similar success if he had the players Holmes got for Campbell and cited their similar demeanors as a reason why. Maybe I took that the wrong way but to me that sounds like by comparing him to another "rah rah coach" that is what you are implying Campbell is. -
These are the type of injury situations that really kill a team. You can deal with multiple big injuries throughout different parts of your team but when they all happen to the same position group forcing you to load up with waiver Wire type players it is just devastating. Especially at such an important position as DB.

Hate to rehash the pick again but this is where I really wish we would still have the 2 3rd round picks instead of using them on Teslaa.

Between how they treat him on his own along with it being a "must win" game for KC Terrion Armold would get called for 50 penalties next week if he was playing.

Campbell's in game decision making goes vastly underappreciated as well, is he flawless? No but all the metrics point to him being one of if not the most valuable coach in the league in that regard. He's far more than just a motivator like people think. Also we still don't know how much Campbell and the coaching staff he has brought in has influenced the draft picks and/or development of said picks. I love Brad but he shouldn't get all the credit for how well the players have turned out, many of the hits very well may have been busts with a different person leading them or may have not even been drafted if not for Campbell. You see in those behind the scenes videos Brad always sitting side by side with Campbell and talking with him about how he feels about a player, basically using him as his consigliere. -

People keep moving the goal posts. Last year when the Lions went 15-2 while being the most injured team in the league he got no recognition cause it was all Ben Johnson. This season people can't use the Ben Johnson excuse so they got to find a new one and it's the having the best supporting cast reason and being healthier than a team like the Bucs. Before the cast was only good because of Johnson and the offense was going to crater without him. People can't make up their minds. -
I think Chad Johnson in the Orange or Fiesta Bowl back like 25 years ago was the first time I seen somebody do that, then it wasn't until Deshean Jackson several years later until I seen it again. Now between college and the NFL it's been done quite a few times in a short amount of time. I simply don't understand it.

JFC do they not care about the ball being catchable or not on PI calls anymore? That ball wasn't close to the receiver, infact the "interference" part actually helped him get even closer to the ball cause without that he'd be running even further away from it. -

Terrion Arnold regressing so badly after I felt he made great strides as the season went on last year is one of the rare disappointing parts of this season thus far. -

I will say one negative about Campbell's in game coaching is that it feels like he makes a lot of bad challenges, may not be true but it sure "feels" that way. -

Did not have Montgomery TD pass on my Lions scoring bingo card. -
I never liked the idea of preseason polls even before the transfer portal but now they make even less sense because all the turnover you get every year from teams. It makes it too difficult to accurately predict how a team is going to look that season.

Penn State still has Ohio State and Indiana left so they very easily could end up with 4 or more losses.
-
It's the right call cause it allows you to know exactly what you need when you have the ball. If you have the first possession you may punt or kick a FG on 4th down cause you don't know what you are going to need where as if you have the 2nd possession you don't have to think about that. You do run the risk of the other team getting an extra possession but I think knowing exactly what you need to do when you have the ball outweighs that especially since its only a 10 minute period.

As long as he is healthy I have no problem McNeil playing this week, you can't take any opponent for granted especially on the road so if he is good to go I feel you should play him instead of "saving him" for the tougher opponent.
