On top of being small market teams I think both teams are just apathetic to non fans of those teams. Like sometimes fans like that will watch just to root against a certain team or player but I don't think either team has people that care that much about them to watch for that reason.
-
I wonder if they did it just to appease Skubal? I mean it's a guy on 1st with 2 outs against Skubal in the 3rd inning. Not exactly a high leverage situation, the chances of them scoring were low regardless of the call. I'd rather save it for something more meaningful.

Went 3-5 today with 2 doubles and a steal of home.

Makes sense, Ibanez one real asset was hitting lefties and he hasn't been doing that most of the year.

McGonigle up to 4th overall in BA's top 100. Clark at 13, Rainer 31(before injury) and Briceno and Liranzo in the back end of the list.

2025 Detroit Tigers General Discussion Thread
RandyMarsh replied to IdahoBert's topic in Detroit Tigers
I remember reading mixed reviews about Jace, some said his bat would play anywhere others questioned if he could hit mlb pitching without changing his unorthodox batting style. To be honest I don't remember much about Neto pre draft, Kevin Parada and Brooks lee were the names I remember most being linked to us and both ended up going before our pick. -
I was at that Cards series, I vividly remember me and my friends chatting with birds fans infront of us and saying "maybe we'll see you in October" when they were leaving.

Yeah I think it's fair to question if the Tigers are a legit 105 win team like they have been playing like but I don't think it's fair to question if they are legit contenders. I think they have a big enough sample(94 win pace over last 250 games) to show that they are at the very least a legit playoff team which in turn makes them a contender.

If he means top 5 overall than yeah never going to happen but top 5 in the organization that could definitely happen I think. -
FWIW yeah he bulked up some but we don't know if it was intentional or not. Looking at pics of him in High School and he had wide shoulders/chest and a thick neck along with already being listed at 6'2 195. That size and build as an 18yr tells me that chances are he's going to be a pretty big dude by his early to mid 20s like he is.

Yeah hard to believe he wouldn't sign but with that said as bad as the Angels are as a franchise they have always been known to be aggressive with prospects so there was a good chance in his and his agents eyes atleast that they'd be an ideal spot to get to the majors the fastest. I think it just boils down to the Tigers really liking Jung and his supposed advanced bat. I agree with SoCal that I think they drafted for immediate concerns instead of BPA, they probably felt that Jung could help the big league team as early as 2023. The regime probably knew their leash was short and they couldn't afford to take guys that were years away. Of course Neto ended up proving that he wasn't far away but they may have not thought that at the time. -

The one baseball cliche that always seems to end up being true is "you can never have enough starting pitching". I think many Tigers fans took that for granted cause of how fortunate we were during the glory 2010 years in regards to the health of our rotation. -
Yep, they lost their first game with him and a couple at the end of the season when guys were resting but in between when they used the full squad they went something like 22-3. They were a completely different team with him

The 2012 Series is completely blocked from my memory like legit the only things I remember are the Sandoval home runs and unfortunately the last out of the series with Miggy left standing on the side of the road. Also not from the series per se but I remember going to the Lions game during it and sitting next to Giants fans from SF who came in for the WS and decided to catch a Lions game while here. Really nice people I have to say. Talked most of the game with them.

Strong chance that even if the Tigers were to go 0 for the rest of the season the Rockies would still finish with a worse record.

Feels like the 2020 season all over again.

Dingler may be the most pleasant surprise, his walk rate makes you question the offense going forward but he does make a bunch of loud contact and if he ends up being even close to what his current numbers are then we have ourselves another young position player to be excited about. -
Clicked on the thread and it looks like the top comment must be from his Dad. You get the feeling that he instilled in him from a young age to "play the right way"

I guess there's only 30 jobs so you can't be picky but that Phoenix job is certainly one I wouldn't want if I was viewed as a hot up and comer.
-
Couldn't you argue the Pistons and Ben Wallace? Edit missed the sign and trade part so no Ben. Wasn't Shaq a straight trade for the Heat? I guess even if it was Wade may have been their best player that year.

I played double dribble non stop as a kid and I never knew about the glitch until seeing the Family Guy episode. I was only 7 or 8 when I was most into it though, was it really a well known thing like say the Konami or Mike Tysons punchout code?

Skubal has given up 4 base runners or less in 8 out of his last 10 starts and in half of them 3 or less. Has a WHIP of .58 in that time.
-
Random Skubal tidbit, since his return in July of 2023 he has faced roughly 250 lefties, he's given up a total of 4 extra base hits against them and none this year. Mind boggling!
-
Yesterday was the only time in the last 15 games they got Bert's 6 runs or more, in the prior 33 games they did it 22 times.
-
As an MLB hitter going from Skubal to Brieske is about the best outcome you could possibly hope for. Ball probably looks like a beach ball relatively speaking.
