  1. I think it was the overall stuff that them two showed that helped them make the team and not necessarily the stats. For instance if they put up great stats but were throwing 90 instead of a 100 I'm not so sure they make it.
  2. Javy sucked offensively in 2020, had a great 6 week stretch with the Mets in 2021 to boost his numbers, sucked in 2022, sucked in 2023 and has looked lost thus far in 2024 albeit a small spring training sample size. The odds of him suddenly turning around and being close to average offensively is slim to none for me.
  3. While it's not a guarantee it's possible that the Lions will recoup that Davis pick they traded anyway if/when he walks next year.
  4. I haven't been keeping up with CBB the last 2-3 years since Michigan has been bad but I know FAU made the Final Four last year and Louisville was interested in May so I presume this is a good hire.
  5. Yeah hate to say it but it's starting to get to the point where it's hard to come up with a logical explanation to why he hasn't been found or turned himself in other than he is dead somewhere.
  6. Im not going to say Spring Training stats are useless but I think unless you truly break them down or look closely at each at bat they can be extremely misleading which is why I doubt many teams put too much stock in them when deciding on who to keep. Extreme situation but for simplicity sake lets say a guy could go 10-10 against pitchers that are destined for the minor leagues but goes 0-20 against actual major league pitching. Yeah as a whole their stat line wouldn't look bad but if you looked deeper at the numbers or followed every at bat you would see that he probably isn't ready or has what it takes to hit major league pitching.
  7. I don't know what makes you think Sneed is a true number 1 when KC doesn't even treat him like one nor do they even put him on the best receiver in games. On top of that he lead all defenders in pass interference penalties and in play penalties overall. Not trying to say he isn't good nor would be an upgrade over what we have but lets not pretend he is Sauce Gardner or one of the true CB1s, he's a good player that is being paid like an elite one. I'm not giving up a 3rd round draft pick for that right.
  8. I watch so many fugitive and cold case type documentaries my imagination goes a little wild in instances like this.
  9. A guy with his resources could be anywhere in the world at this point.
  10. Different situation but last year it was the Tigers who couldn't get in touch with their player Erod and now its a Lions player that is MIA. Who's it going to be for the Pistons and Wings?
  11. Avila wanted to start over in 2015 but Ilitch was the one on insisting we go for it which led to the signings of Zimmermann, Upton and the delayed trades of JV, JD and Kinsler. If we tore things down to the studs when Avila wanted to and traded our guys 2 yrs earlier when they had more value perhaps we would be in a completely different situation.
  12. I wonder if this has been an ongoing thing with him and his gf and that's part of the reason why he sucked so bad the last couple months of the season?
  13. Mike Williams signed with the Jets, he's one of the WRs I was interested in to fill the Reynolds role but its not to be. Im starting to get the feeling that we may use the draft to fill that need which would be fine with me. Considering the cost of WRs it makes sense to draft 1 every couple years so you're not stuck having to pay 2 big contracts down the road.
  14. Any word on if/when Jobe is pitching again in Spring games?
  15. Id rather have Snell at 31 million this year than Flaherty at 15. For 16 million more you are potentially getting 4-5 more wins and given where we are at on the win curve that could be the difference between the playoffs and not. Of course the Tigers didn't know Snell was going to go for this low when they signed Flaherty but just throwing it out there in a hypothetical sense.
  16. Still love the signing either way but just curious does this signing prevent us from receiving any possible compensation for Jackson and/or CJGJ?
  17. I'd like to get 1 more safety for depth and Reynolds or a replacement for him but I don't think either are dire needs.
  18. Btw the Lions restructured Carlton Davis contract by turning some of it into a signing bonus. His cap hit now is a little over 9 million this year so it freed up about 5 million.
  19. Not to be a pessimist but recent mlb history suggests that by May 1st atleast 1 of the Tigers starters will either go down with an injury or be ineffective to the point that they need to be replaced so this sorta log jam will probably work itself out in due time.
  20. If they never drafted Fields and still finished dead last in 2022 then they very likely would've stayed put at number 1 in 2023 and taken 1 of the QBs. If it was Stroud then things would've turned out fine(assuming he turns out the same with Chicago) but if they'd taken Young then they'd be much worse off then they are now. Having the promise of Fields allowed them to net their own Hershel Walkeresque trade so in the long run I guess you could say Fields was a net win for them.
  21. I wouldve traded a 6th for Fields, he couldve provided some insurance incase Montgomery or Gibbs go down.
  22. Leonard with a triple and a homer thus far today raising his spring ops to over 1.100. Of course the question on him will be his defense and where he plays but sooner or later I think you have to give him some run at the big leagues just to see whats there, same with Malloy. Can't keep them in the minors forever hoping their glove gets better.
  23. Wilmer Flores touched 99.5 in his scoreless inning of play today. A bounce back season from him would be a welcome sight for sure.
  24. One more thing about the BPA vs. need debate, I think we also have to factor in how far along we are now when factoring that in. When you are rebuilding and are multiple years away from SB aspirations you just keep collecting the most talent you can regardless of positions but the closer you get to the SB I feel that is when it makes more sense to draft for need and plug a hole if the talent are close otherwise. Like a simplistic point of view if in a vacuum one guy you have an 85 grade on but another is 83 or 84 but that 83 or 84 is a clear need and can benefit the team right away I'd take him when you are in the position we are right now.
