  1. One thing with Cabrera and Verlander that stand out to me that give them "bonus points" in my eyes is that both were at times considered to be the best in all of baseball at what they do. For Cabrera he was almost unanimously seen as the best hitter in the world and Verlander either 1A or 1B in terms pitching. Granted both of those were only for 2-3 years but I don't think any Tiger since Cobb was viewed that way among their peers and national folks at any given time. For Detroit sports in general guys that have been viewed as the very best of the best have been few and far between so for that reason I tend to put somebody like Cabrera on a higher pedestal than what his career total may say.
  2. Yeah it's weird, you think the game 7 loss would've effected me more but after losing game 5 I think I basically conceded the series in my head cause I didn't see a way we'd take both games in San Antonio. The 163 loss hurt me so bad cause I was able to score would be playoff tickets for the ALDS which would've been the first time I got to go to a Tigers playoff game. Was so looking forward to it so that made the loss especially hard for me.
  3. At the time it was my second most devastating loss in my sports fandom life trailing only 05 NBA Finals game 5.
  4. Was my first favorite player as a 6 year old fan only because my real name is Matt and 6 year old me thought it was so cool we shared a name.
  5. Just a random observation I made and that is that as of now Alex Faedo is on pace to throw 130 innings this year for the Tigers. I just bring that up cause we all get fixated on guys starting vs. relieving but with starters going fewer and fewer innings a start if you're a multi inning reliever like a Faedo you can end up contributing damn close to what your average starter does nowadays.
  6. Box score wise atleast Jaden Hamm had a another solid start for WM throwing 4 shutout innings with 6Ks and no BBs. Is he somebody to keep an eye on? Drafted in 2023 and only 21 years old.
  7. I always been a fan of the matching pants and shirt look regardless of the colors. To me it always looked sleeker and cleaner vs. the mismatched top and bottom look. The only exception is the UM home look of blue jersey and maize pants.
  8. They announced at the live show that they are indeed alternates and will be worn with either black pants or the helmet matching blue pants.
  9. I wouldn't mind that look for one off a year either. If we're just talking looks wise and not bringing up our history with black jerseys I prefer this over the boring all gray look that they've been sporting the past several years.
  10. Currently we're at a team OPS+ of 76, for reference Javy's number as a Tiger is 74 so as a team we basically have been hitting at the same clip as Javy has since he has been here and we all know how terrible that has been.
  11. Can't believe it's finally over! Feels like a lifetime ago we beat the Bulls to go 2-1 and looked like at the very least it was gonna be an entertaining season with Cade, Duren, Ivey and Ausar. Now I have never felt more hopeless about the future of the team in my entire life.
  12. Just got back from vacation, havent watched the Tigers all week then as soon as I turn on the TV Javy hits a HR. Must be a sign I need to go on vacation more often.
  13. Just figure I'd share this since it showed up on my YT feed. I've heard this show is set up at times and some of the items "up for sale" on the show never really were but were just used for content on the show so take it for what it's worth but here's the Tigers being featured on Pawn Stars. They are trying to sell some Miggy memorabilia including the jersey he was wearing for his 502nd HR.(Thank God they weren't trying to sell the 500HR one) I'm not a collector or anything so maybe the prices aren't that out of line but for me I felt the jerseys and bat seemed pretty pricey for not having any significant moment attached to it. Also Miggy is a big deal here but he's not somebody like Griffey or Jeter who are collectible to all baseball fans. One more side note, in the video the guy talks about how Kaline's statue has a spike in the glove so it could possibly "catch" a HR. I never knew that, that would be so cool if it ever actually happens.
  14. First official one but we were shutout for 9 innings in NY but fortunately our pitching staff saved us so we were able to get runs in the 10th, if not for that we'd be looking at 2 shutouts in 8 games along with multiple 1 run efforts. Needless to say the offense has got to be better.
  15. I'm not giving up on him but after hearing what Mark had to say it does feel like the Tigers have lost a little faith in him in terms of being a long term starter and they obviously know alot more about him than we do. Also he's certainly not old having just turned 24 but considering he was a 3 year college player at a high level program and is now in his 3rd year of pro ball and it seems like he still hasn't developed that third pitch makes me skeptical that he ever will. With that said even if he doesn't develop that and is relegated to the bullpen in this day and age where starters are pitching less innings and more relievers are pitching multiple innings he could still provide quite a bit of value if he ends up being a really good multi inning guy.
  16. I remember after that draft there were a couple national guys that pegged Madden as one of the guys they thought could reach the majors first from the class. Atleast one of them brought up the Chris Sale comparison in regards to how he could be fast tracked and used. Considering we are now 3 years later and he is still in AA tells me that he hasnt quite developed the way the Tigers were hoping.
  17. Considering how injury prone Buxton has been in his career I'm surprised it didn't hit him and take him out for the year.
  18. Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Also makes you wonder if AZ would've agreed to the 24 first instead of pick 34 how different things could've been for us. We probably wouldn't have LaPorta(I say prob cause they still could've traded up to get him) who was a key part in our season this year and presumably will be for the foreseeable future. OTOH having pick 4 in this draft would be amazing whether we decided to keep it and take somebody like Marvin Harrison or trade it for a haul. If we played it right and the picks ended up working out we'd probably be set up better in the future with the 24 1st scenario but considering how important LaPorta was for us last year it's hard to say if we would've still accomplished all we did last year without him. All hypothetical of course seeing as Arizona had no interest giving up that future 1st but things like this are always fun for me to think about.
  19. Definitely the first time seeing something like this, them asking for anybody to coach first base brings me back to my High School days where we didn't have a full time 1st base coach so whomever made the last out the previous inning had to do it. Needless to say I was "coaching" first base alot cause of that.
  20. Granted it was against arguably the best team in baseball but seeing how lifeless the White Sox looked against the Braves last night makes me feel a little more skeptical of our start. #debbiedowner
  21. Dude for the Panthers just DRILLED a 64yd kick to take the lead with 2 seconds left. Why and the hell isn't he in the NFL or better yet on the Lions? edit: K now I know why, they just showed the graphic and this was his first FG attempt since HS, didn't kick at all in college or anywhere else in organized football so he must have just came out of nowhere. If this is a sign of things to come he will be in the NFL next year for sure.
  22. BTW I was only following on gameday but did the announcers give any reason why Foley wasn't used in the 10th? Was he unavailable or something?
