  1. Speaking of ignoring facts, Fox seems like the perfect user name.
  2. My favorite part was where we ignore facts and Fox ignored the fact in the link he provided that vaccines are highly effective against death and severe illness. That still doesn't top the "fact" that the vaccine caused an NFL player to sustain a head injury during a football game because of the vaccine.
  3. Interesting. One of the studies you linked says vaccines are highly effective in preventing severe illness and death and now you say they don't?
  4. I kind of assumed Chicago already had these types of community groups. We had them in my neighborhood in Detroit. I know Palmer Woods has private security. I grew up on the Grosse Pointe border and Grosse Pointe had community patrol particularly along the Detroit border.
  5. Right so I would be concerned if the level of crime is surging only a block away. Maybe they want to head off the crime before it becomes a problem? I remember when we were this naive when the neighborhoods surrounding my Detroit neighborhood were declining.
  6. There is a large flow of Americans that cross the border in both directions. Ted Cruz for example.
  7. I'm no Chicago expert, so I'll let Buddha chime in, but my mapping skills show me the intersection of Milwaukee/Damen/North is not in Bucktown and is in a neighborhood per your map that has saw a dramatic increase in crime. Violent crime in Chicago is up 7.5% but one neighborhood saw a decrease and my wife walks alone so anecdotes.
  8. Fox just opened up my eyes to how many different right wing disinformation sites there are.
  9. This is my main takeaway from that study: "COVID-19 vaccines are highly effective in preventing severe illness and death from SARS-CoV-2 62 (the virus that causes COVID-19)"
  10. Has Chicago tried defunding the police? Judging by the sharp decline in officers, I'm going to say yes.
  11. Not going to sell your anti vaccine bs here. I'll go out on a limb and say most people on this forum have been vaccinated and no one has died or had heart issues because of it. There are people who have had people get COVID and die or get very ill.
  12. LOL wnd another right wing news outlet that is assuming people will commit mass suicide because of lockdowns.
  13. So it looks like violent crime is going up overall in Chicago but arrests are going down. Looks like it's open season in Chicago. https://news.yahoo.com/chicago-violent-crime-arrests-down-122021891.html
  14. But you mentioned the bar in the post. I'm not the most familiar with Chicago but given the intersection mentioned where the bar is, that would put it in a neighborhood where the crime increased significantly. It's good to know a couple gentrified neighborhoods in Chicago are doing ok.
  15. The area where the alleged bar at is in an area where crime rose significantly according to that map. It looks to me like most of Chicago is seeing an increase of crime. This is like my old neighborhood in Detroit. Every neighborhood around was going downhill but it won't happen in our neighborhood...
  16. It's a shame that Manchin wants to prevent that woman in that meme from having dental care.
  17. Here are some studies for you that shows the child tax credit encourages parents to work and boosted children out of poverty: The child tax credit encourages parents to work, study finds (cnbc.com) Child tax credit lifted 3 million kids from poverty in July (cnbc.com) The new child tax credit does more than just cut poverty (brookings.edu) An Expanded Child Tax Credit Would Reduce Poverty To Below 10 Percent In Nearly All States (forbes.com) If Congress Fails to Act, Monthly Child Tax Credit Payments Will Stop, Child Poverty Reductions Will Be Lost | Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (cbpp.org) Now where are the studies that show parents would spend the money on drugs and go hunting?
  18. Imagine if Eisenhower tried to pitch the interstate system today.
  19. This Twitter thread was written one year ago yesterday before the insurrection.
  20. It blows my mind after Republicans have led an insurrection on the capitol and are rolling back rights and suppressing votes in other states that Democrats are not excited enough to vote.
  21. Since West Virginia is so concerned about deficits now, can we re-direct the federal funds back to blue northeast states? We don't want West Virginia to continue to be a welfare state.
  22. I'll go out on a limb and say whenever Rodgers has a football related injury, he doesn't talk to the doctors about what he thinks are legitimate treatment options.
  23. West Virginia is one of the poorest states in the country and ranks near the bottom in just about everything but it's good to know they care about the national deficit and Manchin supports tax cuts for billionaires despite no billionaires in West Virginia.
