  1. Your son could follow my son’s: undergrad at Michigan, masters at NW.
  2. The last sentence is not a fact. It is your opinion of what he thinks.
  3. Aside from trades and Tork/Riley, the majority of the 2022 wins improvement we are speculating on would be from FAs. Which without overpayment in dollars or years (and maybe even with those) is never as simple as shopping at the grocery store. What the team tries to do to become more competitive and what they are able to do are two different things. And we will likely not know of some offers or plans that slipped away. short version: you can’t always get what you want i want them to spend. I want excellent players to be acquired. I do not expect them to succeed in signing that level in every perceived area of weakness. And yes, a deadline acquisition could work if we don’t give up too much.
  4. I think he was a crummy hitter when he had a long term wrist injury. Since he has left that behind he hasn’t been crummy.
  5. Fair enough, what about 5/125? Is that long term enough? I don’t think Story has the value to expect much more than that, but admit I am not very knowledgeable. A shorter period with opts outs would be good for the Tigers, including the slim chance that Kreidler is the real deal. My point is more that having alternatives ( Plans B, C, etc.) is smart. Others have pointed to trade options, specifically for players shunted aside by a newly acquired SS, or with a team that has real depth at the position. I am assuming that could function as a Plan B or C, after testing the waters for Correa and others.
  6. Leaving Correa aside for the moment for various reasons, what is “or bust”? Looking at the defensive ratings, ages and guessing as to dollars/length of contract, would Story having an off year compared to past performance be a case buying lower (not low). I am aware of Coors effect concerns. He’s young enough that I think he is less likely to decline soon. What are the numbers to get him likely to be? Most of the other top names seem flawed for various reasons. Story might not produce great O numbers at Comerica, but good ones coupled with good D sounds okay. And if he signs for a lot less than Correa, put that $ on a good SP. SS has been such a hole. So, 4/90 for Story? Would that be both a reasonable guess and a good value, or is it way off? I could see the Tigers making serious overtures to Correa, but not sticking around if the numbers get too high/long. And being ready with a plan B.
  7. AA isn’t a smooth talker, I’ll grant that. Your take on how important that is, as well as your spin on any criticism of the past regime is, like, just your opinion, man.😎
  8. Basic agreement, with a few thoughts. I want them to spend the money needed to get a very good SS player, as is always the case, you can’t always get who want (but if you try sometimes, you get what you need) so maybe not Correa. And a solid starter would be great, don’t think it needs to be a near ace level one. A catcher, sure, I would also add some other pitching depth, knowing BP arms are fickle.
  9. I think Reyes is fine as a 5th OF on a good team, less so as the fourth OF. As a PR, infrequent day off for the regular replacement, flexibility for double switches on NL parks, you could do worse. It all comes down to the second part of your comment, Chas: how much does he play. I think 175 PAs or less makes sense. But would he suffer from not staying sharp sitting on the bench most of the time.
  10. I don’t think people had him as more than #4 or #5 OF for next year, so the brakes were already being applied. It’s more that he has done well of late and Daz in particular has not, while Hill has durability questions. Reyes dug his way out of a nontender hole, but not much more.
  11. I’ll get back to you after I Formosa an opinion.
  12. When I was in sixth grade in Urbana, Illinois I was told I could enroll in University High School the following year. Probably would have gotten a better education if I had, but I turned it down, sticking with my friends at Urbana High. George Will went to Uni, and I didn’t want to hang with his ilk.
  13. Hey Bert, I,m here. (Until I have to clock back in for work, grumble, grumble).
  14. Reyes is still only 26 (27 next season), he might have a little more improvement yet. Plus he should be cheap.
  15. So what’s the setup here? Limits on feedback (likes)? Glad to be here, and glad to see the folks that made the journey. 🙂
