I still think Boras leaking this means Skubal is interested in staying in Detroit. If Detroit's original offer was 4 years $100 million and Boras says they are $250 million apart, he will sign for $350 million which is not unheard of considering Gerrit Cole's contract at 9 years $324 million. Teams get creative with opt outs, deferrals, signing bonuses. It might be doable.

I would offer Skubal an opt out after 2028. They keep the core team together and he gets to compete with his teammates, protection from injury and a chance at testing the free agent market.

Sounds like Tigers offered $170 last year which would include two arbitration years and it's being compared to a free agent contract. Skubal hasn't reached free agency yet so why would the Tigers offer what Boras wants? Could this mean Skubal is receptive to an offer if Boras is already leaking information to the media? Why throw numbers around now? Only the Tigers can negotiate.

Harris has 40 roster spots to work with. They have been getting 6 wins from the first spot for two years and probably (possibly, hopefully) will again next year. After that, Harris needs to add 6+ wins somehow between 1-40. It's possible.
