  1. I do think they’ll bring in veteran insurance, but are also hedging by having Keith and Malloy get reps there.
  2. We have a home at the Homestead Resort (in nearby Glen Arbor) and Michigan license plates are now about 50%—tons of Illinois and Indiana plates, but now starting to see Pennsylvania and New York, too. Our little secret up in Leelanau County is becoming more well known.
  3. Agree—can understand wanting to avoid the commute, but don’t base it on the offseason. We still have a foundation of a playoff team that was largely populated by rookies, who should only get better. And it’s not like the rest of the AL has improved much (yet). Most of the free agents and trade targets are still out there.
  4. Want to make baseball more appealing? We need more Morganna’s running on the field, kissing batters.
  5. I think some contending teams are willing to assume that risk if they think they have an immediate window. Skubal is arguably the best SP in MLB right now and could change or ensure a team’s fortune.
  6. Some ‘84 Tigers fun for the locals.
  7. I can’t tell if he’s goofing and it’s just a bit or he’s the internets biggest idiot.
  8. It would be part of a long term contract, like Gehringer more articulately conveyed.
  9. He had an outstanding season at age 23 in AA. Might be a case of a guy who took some time to develop (he was also a COVID kid). Still, was probably worth the risk of getting selected. And likely he doesn’t make it through the season with the Cubs, who appear to be trying to be a contender. I’d like to get him back, but won’t lose any sleep over it.
  10. The advantage we have is that we could extend him now and pay him $30M per season for his two remaining arb years—he wouldn’t get anything close to that going to arbitration. And if he has another serious injury over the next two seasons, he may never get paid. Just comes down to how much risk he wants to assume.
  11. My point is that we could have paid him. We opted for Baez instead, likely because of affordability. Correa became a hot potato in free agency, with two teams backing out of their agreement with him. He could have easily been a Tiger.
  12. I think that’s incorrect. According to ChatGPT, Baez signed on 12/1. Correa signed with SF on 12/12.
  13. Buffalo is very good. Hate to overreact to this game, so far, but I think the SB is going to be the Bills v Eagles. Missing Hutch really hurts in a game like this.
  14. We could have easily signed Correa, but chose Baez instead. Remember that Correa had deals killed with both SF and Mets before settling with the Twins.
  15. ? I missed that. I remember him having breakfast with the guy, but it was later debunked as any sort of recruiting event.
  16. I think Skubal will take counsel from Boras, but will ultimately decide his own fate, much more so than perhaps his other clients. If he wants to be a Tiger, he will be. A wrinkle in all of this is his recent appointment to a role in the players association. That loyalty to the union might be more significant than any affection he has towards the Tigers.
  17. Committing 7 years to a guy who is already showing some decline seems like a mistake. I would trust Harris and Co. more with this type of decision, though, than the previous regime.
  18. I thought he was gonna be good based, a few seasons back. Has disappointed since.
  19. So, he’ll still be playing on a minor league field? Poor guy.
  20. He will. Unless he goes all Baddoo next season. I like him, but not sure a competitive team can hide him all year.
  21. Harris has already stated he’s interested and that the Tigers will make a compelling presentation to Sasaki. While he’s bound to whatever a team is willing to pay out of their International allocation, he can choose freely. I suspect every team will aggressively pursue him.
