I think Carpenter might have more trade appeal than we’re giving him credit for. Cost-controlled power bats are valuable. If you could flip in a package for a nice pitcher, we could find his replacement via free agency or promotion (convert one of our glut of middle infielders). Might only be for a season until Max Clark is ready in ‘27

The only scenario for a Skubal trade is if they can’t work out an extension before next season’s trade deadline and the Tigers are out of contention. 2026 is the year that I think the Tigers push their chips in, either through trade or free agency to go for it. Skubal, Mize and Flaherty can all walk after that season, leaving Jobe and Olsen (two question marks) along with Melton. There are no other pitchers coming fast with a pedigree close to theirs. I would not be surprised to see them pursue another top SP this off-season. Cobb, Paddock, Morton and Maeda all come off the payroll this offseason. Mackenzie Gore, if made available, would be attractive.

I realize this probably shouldn’t matter, but I haven’t thought the same about Dan after his rant against a caller on a podcast who suggested the Tigers could consider Trevor Bauer via free agency. His rant was irrational, and as it turns out, erroneous. I’m no Bauer apologist, but he became unhinged. Came across a bit sanctimonious to me.

Agree with this approach. No reason to commit beyond one more season. Since it was made clear he was coming for one season to establish himself, I wonder if there was a gentleman’s agreement that the Tigers would not put a QO on him?

I don’t see that happening, nor do I think they should. He was a nice bridge and hedge in case Tork couldn’t hit. He strikes me as someone who could quickly decline and his unwillingness (alleged) to play anywhere but 2B does not fit with how Hinch likes to utilize his roster.

I think Lee and Jung are in the mix at 2B next season.

If he can stick at SS, he will be a generational player. And if he can’t, he’ll still be. We’re going to see him next season

I find the local radio personalities pander to the lowest common denominator by leaning into conspiracy narratives like the Tigers are cheap (false), Harris is incompetent (false) and Tenacious D is smokin’ hot (that one may actually be true). Riger, Valenti, Ryan, etc…are less informed on the Tigers than almost anyone here. Listening to crazy callers all day probably doesn’t help.
