Trading one player, even if it’s Riley Greene, doesn’t ensure anything. Especially without knowing what we’d be getting back.
We know we’re a .500 team as currently constructed.
Assuming we get minor leaguers in return, hypothetically, here’s who could get promoted to replace our rumored traded players:
Kelly > Dingler
Canha > Villade/Tork
Urshela > Jung/Kriedler/Navigato
Flaherty > Jobe
Jobe is ready to pitch in the big leagues right now. He’d be our 3rd best pitcher immediately.
The innings he required can happen in the minors or majors—it doesn’t matter. Regardless, he desperately needs them—he’s thrown less than 40 so far.
He would also be learning daily from the best pitching coach and pitchers in the organization.
The only reasons not to promote him now are if they think he has a fragile psyche and/or service time manipulation.
I wouldn’t promote him just so we can win more games this year—I’d promote him to further his development.
He’s an interesting dude. Seems to mostly have solid AB’s. I was a fan of his in the minors so it’s nice to see him achieve some early success. And he’s the same age as a lot of dudes in AA/AAA ball.
Looks like he could pop 15 dingers and steal 20-25 bases per season. Great production if he could have stayed at 2B, not as impressive in a corner OF spot.
Valuable guy to have on the team to plug in where needed.
On one of the Tiger podcasts, a comment was made that we won’t likely see any of the top 3 picks play this season. I understand the conservative approach with the pitchers, but anyone know why Rainer wouldn’t play?
We don’t have to solve every position through our minor leagues, trades for prospects or stopgap signings. Let’s move some prospects for established hitters or make a free agent signing or two.
I think it’s the opposite—he has such thin skin on X, I think he’d be in the fetal position, rocking in a corner of his room, if he knew how much we made fun of him.
Wasn’t he scouted/signed close to age 15/16? You have to be able to project quite a bit. I think a lot of these International guys are lottery tickets. Very rarely do you hit on them, but it’s a nice payout when it does.
