  1. who is playing for indiana?
  2. carve a year off of arbitration in exchange for a cap on the length of contract?
  3. i disagree with most of that except for the part about baseball. baseball has so many salary constraints that favor owners its ridiculous. so many constraints that help smaller markets already. the mets spent more money than god last year to win a total of 83 games. only 4 more than the bottom feeding, cheap ass marlins. the mighty market of milwaukee won 97. yes yes yes the dodgers. oh no! the pirates couldnt sign a 33 year old corner outfielder with declining stats. someone please think of the children! if anything, the current system is TOO owner friendly. it lets owners off the hook for not investing in their product while quietly sucking up "revenue sharing" money from teams trying to win. i am no fan of unions, but if i'm the players here, there is no way i let them do a salary cap. and i dont think the owners will die on that hill either. they know they have a good thing going. there are much more pressing issues to address than player salary constraints and growing labor coats, the players have largely lost on those issues already.
  4. fans just want to see their favorite players stay with their team. they want to think all teams have the same shot at free agents as the other teams. they dont think that they do and that this is why their team loses. theyre wrong, but that's ok. once more from the rooftops: salary caps benefit no one but the owners. its a brilliant way for owners to maximize their profits and get fans on their side against the greedy players. i mean, the players ARE greedy, but so what? its capitalism. were all greedy.
  5. ASP played just 9 minutes. and didnt play at all gor the last 15 minutes of the game. he's such a liability on defense the wings dont want to play him late in tight games with a lead. its a must that they get him off the second pair. they need another defenseman in the worst way. it doesnt have to be rasmus anderson, but it needs to be a reliable, second lair D. come playoff time, asp is going to need to be heavily sheltered.
  6. its weird, two straight losses and the wings will likely be out of the playoffs, but as of now they have one of the best records in the league. atlantic is so competitive.
  7. The Mike Brown effect happened early this year.
  8. giannis blames the fans.
  9. i cant wait until baseball gets a salary cap so we can all try to figure out if the dodgers are over the second apron so they can use their mid level exception or if they have to trade a $6.7 million trade exception to tampa for the rights to a player they will cut in order to create a third exception to retain a 4th players rights. salary caps are stupid. they will remain stupid no matter what team is throwing stupid money after 30+ year old declining corner outfielders.
  10. They'll wait until august to sign him. he'll be terrible again and cost them games, BUT half the board will tell us that it was actually a brilliant signing by harris because they MIGHT have signed someone worse!
  11. eastern michigan named. depaul too. no big schools or name players.
  12. recalled gustafsson and not wallinder or tuomisto? nobody tell 84... 😉
  13. he's a 20 year old undersized rookie defenseman. he's met my expectations for such a young player. but he's getting buried a lot of nights and its liable to get worse if chiarot is out for any length of time. they really need to get another second pair defenseman and shelter asp more on the third line/power play.
  14. "theoretically" is doing a LOT of work there. i'll believe you want to be fair to harris when you give him fair criticism for bringing in paddack and morton. if the fancy stats say a pitcher who threw 40 innings and had an ERA over 7 is a 0.0 player and didnt cost his team anything, then i question that stats' usefulness. his WAR was -.8, fwiw. hard to achieve in only 40 innings. i mean, even chris paddack wasnt that bad...
  15. how did adding paddack and morton NOT make the team worse? what were the stats of the guys they replaced? and what were the stats of the guys they could have traded for but didnt? you'd have to know both of those. it appears harris has set up an organization that has done well in creating an environment to develop young players. that means a lot. in the long run, that will be more important than short term success in qualifying for the wild card two years in a row. but his trade deadline moves hurt the team. youre straining credulity by saying paddack and morton didnt hurt the overall results.
  16. what a joke. not as much of a joke as the miami heat retiring jordan's number (or the league trying to ape mlb by retiring bill russell's jersey) but still a joke. dell curry was a guy who stood in the corner and shot 3s. played zero defense, didnt handle the ball. he's not close to his son. charlotte should be embarassed.
  17. what did he do with jokic? it would likely be similar here. mpj is still a huge injury risk too. look, anyone they would get will have flaws. people usually dont trade superstar players. since there doesnt seem to be a lot of options out there, its going to cost a ton to get him. would you give up harris, ivey and multiple first round picks for mpj?
  18. a perfect time to trade all their remaining future first round picks for anthony davis. that will show giannis they are committed to winning! no way he'll leave then!
  19. it IS more than that. the university's purpose - and the reason its granted non-profit, non-taxable status - is that it is a public good, paid for by the state, to educate its citizens and produce value for the state. that education and the fruits of it through research, development, and producing the next generation of talented americans is the reason it exists. not a football team. not a rock climbing wall. not a state of the art food court and gym. not a assistant to the assistant provost for student inclusion at the dental school. universities have lost their way in some many areas. the relentless pursuit of profit via the football team is just the most obvious example.
  20. that was a schedule loss.
  21. white hasnt been healthy for any length of time this season. i'd be wary about that.
