if free agents are so overly concerned with the tigers' supposed poor reputation for disorganization, then why did baez and erod sign here? im not buying that. free agents go where the money is for the most part. baseball teams are not the usual corporate structures when it comes to attracting a talented workforce. free agents are going to go where they can play and where they can get paid. the idea that they are really concerned with the structure of an organization is far fetched, imo. that's offseason slow news day talk.

dombrowski traded two top 10 picks to get miguel cabrera. that worked out ok. if harris were to take the dombrowski road, this would be the year of "you try and trade em." the only players who might bring something substantial back are greene and tork based on reputation. i doubt harris is dealing either. so let it play out a year and hope they improve enough to the point where we can trade them for the next miguel cabrera.

i dont think the tigers have any organizational strengths. that's the product of being mismanaged for a decade. put all your eggs in a young pitching basket and sometimes you get justin verlander, but more likely you get kenny baugh, matt drews, kyle sleeth, and seth greisinger.

most of belein's giys are gone so this is howard's team now. and its not looking so hot. in his defense (there is no defense for losing to cmu at home), college basketball is a guard run game, and michigan lost both its point guards to the portal and injury. starting a tiny true freshman who can shoot is killing them.

how does he become the consensus #1 pick in the draft if he cant skate? maybe it's lucky the wings didnt get any lottery luck that year? although stutzle would look pretty good in a winged wheel.

they've been shredded by the pats, jets (wilson with 300 yards!), and panthers om defense. their secondary has looked like absolute garbage for over a month. their running game has been bad for the last 4 or 5 games too. the vaunted offensive line just hasnt been that strong in the run game, imo. hey, its the nfl. every new season is a chance for some nothingburger team to come out of nowhere and surprise people with some lucky wins (like the giants and vikings this year). that could totally be the lions next year. but as a team to compete against the best? i dont see it. not until they upgrade at playmakers on offense (most notably at qb) and the talent on defense improves (especially the secondary).

the lions defense is also atrocious. they dont have the offense consistently enough to make up for it. another solid draft, a free agent or two, and you might have a team to challenge for the division if/when rodgers leaves. right now they arent there.

i dont think detroit is close to being a serious contender. theyre in the muddy middle right now, and theyre close to being near the top of the muddy middle, but they are far away from buffalo or the chiefs or even philly.

i still think its much more likely they finish 7th in the division. however, they havent been healthy yet and have been missing a bunch of their best players in bert and vrana. maybe those guys can help them score 5 v 5, which is where they need the most help.

i wonder if bertuzzi would take a one year deal? try to get his value back up and get a longer term deal next time? i cant imagine him fetching much in the trade market after being hurt all year.
