urban meyer is one of the greatest coaches in college football history. ryan day....is not. at least not yet. he's still very young and is the bead coach at a well oiled professional machine of an organization that will spend every dollar and skirt every rule in order to win. they may yet adjust to michigan. plus, how long does harbaugh have left? 5 years?
-
i dont see how that supports your point that day isnt in the same class as urban as a recruiter. ohio state has been in a class of its own in the big ten and topped only by the usual $ec suspects when it comes to recruiting since day has been there. his issue is the failure to adjust to michigan. michigan adjusted to him and he hasnt done the same. i think that's on him as a coach, but the talent on the team is higher than its ever been.

if bronny ends up at michigan maybe he'll change his mind. -
juwan howard was an alum. i'm not sure deion could spell stanford, much less get in. if they wanted to go that route, richard sherman would be a more likely choice. he actually went there (although he has as much baggage in his closet too). i would bet on someone with ties to stanford looking for a promotion. but if i were an up and coming coach i wouldnt touch stanford. they have the same problems as michigan with the new world of nil and transfers. just as an aside, if i were michigan, i would definitely be sniffing around any stanford potential transfers. that's one school even snooty michigan admissions people would give equal credit for grades.

ryan day has had 4 recruiting classes and has 5 5* defensive players during that time. i cant count hiw many 4* defensive players he's recruited, but lets just say its a lot. that's more defensive 5*s than michigan has total 5*s. in case youre wondering, michigan's 5*s were daxton hill, chris hinton, jj mccarthy, and will johnson. osu had more than that in 2022 alone.
-
the buckeyes have multiple 5 star kids on defense. including JTT who was the #1 recruit in america and single handedly destroyed penn state this year. if anything, day has recruited BETTER than urban. the issue is he cant stop michigan's run game, they've beaten everyone else on their schedule for two years.

deion is a scam artist with more skeletons in his closet than you can shake a stick at. i dont see that happening at all. the fact that there is a report that colorado offered him its job says a lot more about how colorado has hit rock bottom. stanford is like michigan: old, traditional, fuddy duddys. if stanford is going to "take a chance" on somebody to reinvigorate their program, i'd put mike hart higher on that list than deion sanders. i'd say bienemy but he has too many skeletons too (which is probably why colorado didnt consider him). is it the same AD that hired harbaugh? maybe they ask him who he recommends? most likely they consult with shaw and get someone he recommends. whomever it is, i doubt they bring any neon with them. that just doesnt seem to be stanford's style.

fickell to wisconsin.

i thought stroud has looked pretty good against michigan. not perfect, of course, but he dropped some absolute dimes into really good coverage. the caveat being we dont have the all 22 and cant see what's down the field. but he has an nfl arm and nfl accuracy. its not going to matter, the lions arent going to have a shot at him. the texans and panthers look like 1-2 and they both need qbs. the only possibility is if the bears sneak in at a top 2 pick. they'd definitely trade down. otoh, with stafford looking like he might be out for the season, kupp gone, and the rams reeling now....

i wonder if bandwagon lebron will come out as a michigan fan now? -
i dont think the personal fouls are poor coaching, i think its osu's players arent used to losing and they reacted...poorly. people are saying its john cooper and the 90s all over again. like most historical analogies, thats not entirely accurate. those michigan teams that were double digit underdogs to osu in the mid 90s were underachieving mediocre michigan teams beating stacked undefeated osu teams. these last two michigan teams have been great teams that were on par with osu, not like those mid 90s 4 loss michigan clubs.

i had senegal making it out of the group too. my early summer bets are not turning out so good. lol. -
otoh, michigan had started to move the ball in its preferred way in the second half. jj's running made a huge difference. michigan was getting five and six yards a carry in the third quarter and bleeding the clock. i think edwards' two long runs were osu realizing they needed to do something drastic to stop them so they went to cover zero and moved everyone up to the box, daring michigan to throw late knowing they werent likely to do it. and it backfired. but i'm not sure they had a choice. they werent able to stop michigan's running in the second half like they did in the first.
-
ohio state totally outplayed michigan in the first half. they stuffed michigan and made them play a different game. the disappointment for osu was their inability to get more than 20 on the board and the missed tackle on the first touchdown. but the second half was really a repeat of last year, the difference being edwards' speed versus haskins last year. and osu's "adjustment" of running cover 0 backfiring on them with the two long runs. if michigan is going to play a deep shell defense osu is going to need to start playing some power running football, take advantage of michigan the way they take advantage of osu. but we'll see, that doesnt seem to be in day's dna and his fancy pants passing offense. "osu is soft" is just a media narrative, but there is a little bit of truth to it. i dont think the players are any less "tough" than michigan's players, i think osu's coach is weak and played scared.
-
lol. i'm just noting your penchant for harbaugh bashing or downplaying michigan's achievements, whether you mean to or not. probably a bigger loss for osu was henderson being out. that said, osu refused to consistently run the ball at michigan. i thought they had good success when they ran between the tackles and not those silly wide pitches or quick screens they kept trying and failing.
-
"born on third base and thinks he hit a triple" is a very accurate description. i still cant believe he punted in michigan territory down 4 in the third quarter.

welp... -
fickell would be the perfect hire for wisconsin. the only question being whether he would hold out for osu. but the "ryan day to the nfl" garbage will certainly have died down a bit a now...
-
lol. deion sanders? at STANFORD? come on...deion is shady af. he is noy going to be on stanford's radar even if he is black.
-
under harbaugh michigan has done a really good job of developing players. lets take a minute to acknowledge how well michigan's secondary played yesterday. we were all worries about how osu would tear us up without a great pass rush like last year. well, that pass rush really didnt materialize but the secondary held osu's receivers in check for most of the game, including harrison, who might be the best receiver in college football. i think this year's defense did a better job than last year's defense.
