i'm excited about red wings prospects (not as excited as 84...) because the guy running the show has a long track record of success and his first two draft picks finished 1 and 4 in rookie of the year voting. al avila has a track record of failure and until we get these guys out of the system and bring some new ones in, that record will likely continue. one or two might hit. the odds are that a couple will become good major league baseball players. but the vast vast majority will not. so i will continue to chuckle at the amount of excitement generated for A ball pitchers. hopefully i'm wrong and 84 is right.

yeah, i dont get the recriminations because we didnt trade lange. the most you would get is a guy who might be lange in three years. youve already got lange. might as well keep him and see if you can develop him more.

its not like youre trading relievers to get a superstar. you would have dealt them for a guy who might be a reliever in 3 years. maybe. and avila was doing the dealing, and that hasnt turned out to be too fruitful. so why trade them?

understood. counterpoints: if the guys you mentioned were going to be good major league players, they would have developed already. and their development now has more to do with them just getting older and wont translate at the major league level. i heard that about jung and velocity. no idea if its true. and honestly, i think a lot of the stuff coming out of tigers' writers right now is being fed to them by people who want to make avila look bad. so i dont know how much stock we can actually put into it. but as ive said, i think avila has a long track record of not being able to identify and/or develop talent. so i whatever we get out of his drafts is gravy. i'll believe any of those guys will be quality players when i see it. hopefully it was all on the development side and we'll see some actual results when a new group comes in with new ideas. or we can just promote david chadd and assume things will change. that's basically what they did the last time.
