  1. it will be collective bargaining. once we get past the charade that these guys are anything more than minor league football players. its kind of sad in a way. the old way really is dead. when was the last time you can remember a player getting suspended for academics? the charade is truly up. maybe it will involve the nfl actually having to pay its minor league players in the future?
  2. the word is that harbaugh is among the people who dont want to do the new nil pay for play universe. which, if true, is going to get him fired in three years when michigan is losing to ohio state 80-0 and michigan state 45-3.
  3. no theyre not. that's the problem and its why everyone on this thread has been bitching about them for months. michigan is being a slave to the "rules" on nil. everyone else realizes there really are no rules and have been using nil to their advantage. including notre dame. michigan has not. its why michigan is falling behind and will continue to fall behind until they get with the new normal in "college" football.
  4. cause notre dame is paying really well right now.
  5. i thought he'd be a little lower on the slg and a little higher on the obp, but that's what i thought javy would be this year. its similar to what he was in chicago. he swings big - at everything - and if he makes contact, its gonna go a long way. i'm surprised he hasnt been on a really good run yet. like a run where he hits .300 for a month. but his droughts are not surprising. what is a surprise has been his struggles in the field. im used to occasional javy lapses in attention when he gets bored and the team isnt doing well, but his throws to first and his overall defensive numbers indicate he may be in decline and may have to move to second base in the future. that surprises me.
  6. i also remember people - including myself - saying it was ok to pass on a qb two years ago because the lions will be drafting high the next year and can just draft a qb then. except last year's qb class turned out to be not that great. the lions need talent. they need a talent upgrade at the most important position in football. if they have the opportunity to get one this year when they have two first round picks, then i think they should do it. but i dont know what the draft classes in the future will look like, but it is unlikely the lions will have multiple first rounders to trade to move up in those drafts (which is preferable to dealing from your own future first round stash). seems to me that this year would be a good year to try to get one if they can and the price to move up isnt too high. but like i said before, it is likely that most of the teams at the top of the draft will want qbs, the lions may be in a position where they cant get a qb prospect they like because they are picking too low. unless you want to pay a king's ransom to the bears to move up for their #1 pick...which is going to be top 3 almost for sure.
  7. you draft a qb this year so he's ready to take over for goff in 2 years. that's the ideal situation. you dont want to draft a rookie the year goff leaves, that puts a lot of pressure on your rookie and will probably result in a lost season (unless we suddenly turn into the pats).
  8. i think the offense will be decent this year but the defense will still be pretty bad. teams are gonna whup up on the lions linebackers and corners. they still need one more draft and maybe a good free agent to beef up the back 7. if they keep both their first rounders next year, i see CB and QB in their future.
  9. first of all, its a ridiculous hypothetical. but he would still be ted williams, only with better nutrition and an instagram presence.
  10. if williams were playing today he would likely be bigger and stronger and able to take advantage of all the advances that help today's hitters. he was a physical freak for his time with eyesight and reflexes so good he was a master fighter pilot tabbed to fight in TWO wars.
  11. ruth and jackie robinson (and larry doby) are the most important baseball players in history. ruth is the best player of all time, imo. changed the game. dominated the game. and was one of the best pitchers in the game to boot.
  12. cause he wanted gleybar torres and the yankees hung up on him.
  13. man, matt boyd wasnt that good. we totally should have traded him while we had the chance. but avila didnt. because he is bad at his job.
  14. he is if you give him credit for his war years.
  15. i'm not sure mac jones is elite, but point taken. just as an aside, i think where those guys go organization-wise means almost as much as their talent. all those players are talented, putting them in a good system is very important in bringing that talent out. hopefully the lions become one of those organizations.
  16. are you giving greenberg credit for the war years? i think miggy is pretty comparable to greenberg, but i can see the argument that he's just behind him. if cobb is your only "elite" tiger you've got a pretty small group of elite players in the big scheme of things. cobb is probably top 5 at least, right? ruth, bonds, williams.....wagner?
  17. no reason to trade skubal. he's young and good and cost controlled, why the heck would we trade him unless its for a similar player at a different position of need. let's be honest, do we trust avila to trade any of these guys? dd? yes. but what's avila gonna get for any of these guys? jose king? let's just keep them and pray that illitch fires avila and lets the bext guy sort it out.
  18. the sad thing is that they didnt think they were tanking. they just suck.
  19. ok, but i imagine 3 of the top 4 picks will be qbs and the teams picking in those slots will want qbs. holmes might want one and it wont matter because they wont be able to go up and get the one they want. but we'll see. its a long season.
  20. multiple teams do and multiple teams need qbs. that's my worry there. every team that is supposed to suck needs a young qb except for the bears. carolina, atlanta, ny giants. eagles could be looking for a qb too and have multiple picks. that said, it looks like there are a lot of good prospects heading into this season.
  21. there's more than enough bad on the tigers 40 man roster to keep them both.
  22. harold snepts? gilbert delorme? basil mcrae? those are the first ones i remember, lol.
  23. on to lamar jackson?
  24. keuchel is so bad the 2022 tigers have a better chance of succeeding this year than he does.
