  1. they only have so many talented players, and a lot of them are hurt. i choose to blame the guys who acquired that lack of talent for the last 8 years. i do think they'll get better as the year goes on, just like last year. if they can get healthy. one would expect tork to get better. greene will likely struggle once he gets in, but should at least be a defensive upgrade.
  2. one thing is for sure....when that happens, it will all be hinch's fault.
  3. del is mad because his boyfriend luka has been exposed as a defensive sieve in the playoffs this year.
  4. or you could hire a general manager who can acquire good talent in the draft outside the top 5 picks. that would help.
  5. and you think they're slumping because of something the manager did? so the avila apologists say that he should be retained because of the new analytics and development tools avila has put into place (that they only know about because avila let the press write stories about it like it was something new and that the rest of the league hadnt been doing for years). yet, when that supposedly great new analytics tool doesnt produce results, its the manager's fault? i understand some of you will never excuse hinch from the astros situation, but he took this same garbage talent to 75+ wins last year. the fact that you wishcasted this team into contention this year is on you and your belief in the media hype. not on reality. avila had been in charge for 8 years of the worst years in tigers franchise history. there is very little difference between avila and randy smith. when chris illitch wakes up, he'll realize that and hopefully hire someone who can do the job othe than draft the consensus top player #1 in the draft.
  6. how about the guy who has been in charge of player acquisition for 8 years and the farm system is still largely bare other than top 10 picks? can we fire that guy instead of the guy who managed a world series team?
  7. stars do what they want.
  8. i wonder if this helps or hurts the gop with hispanics in texas?
  9. we'll see what happens in a couple cycles. you could be right.
  10. i dont think im being dismissive that "nothing more will happen." i think things will happen in red states, that i said before. i just dont think a national ban will happen. but i could be wrong.
  11. you may be right. hope not. we'll see.
  12. nobody likes ted cruz, he wont be senate majority leader. and he's not a strategic thinker who puts the party's interests above her personal interests. ted cruz only cares about his mentions on twitter. i dont know about hawley, but he strikes me as more cruz-ian and interested more in hawley than getting republicans in line with a successful national strategy, although i think he's more of a strategic thinker than cruz. mike lee maybe? i would say tim scott but i think he has national ambitions as a future vp. romney is out for sure. not sure who else is out there.
  13. it'll take a couple of election cycles to work itself out. at the very least, if roe/casey is overturned, more states laws will reflect the preference of the voters in those states. blue states will continue to allow abortion on demand, and a lot of red states will not allow abortion at all. the purple states (or the purple-ish states like texas and florida) will be interesting to see where they go. i dont think a national abortion ban will happen. there will be lots of talk about it, but it would be very unpopular.
  14. i said i didnt think they would overturn roe/casey, i thought roberts would come to some decision that whittles away at it but not outright dismissing it. that could still happen, btw.
  15. al avila is the 4th longest tenured gm in baseball. only cashman, rizzo, and rick hahn have been there longer. all three of whom have actually had success on the field, unlike avila.
  16. i doubt it, but we'll see.
  17. i think it will take some time to sort through and it will be different by state (of course). texas will be interesting to see what ultimately happens 6 or 8 years from now.
  18. 18 weeks
  19. i am not.
  20. https://detroithockeynow.com/2022/05/06/detroit-red-wings-prospect-sebastian-cossa-starts-whl-playoffs-4-0-two-shutouts-edmonton-oil-kings/ cossa off to a good start
  21. its amazing to me that avila still has a job.
  22. with alex faedo's appearance the other day, the tigers' 2017 draft has now produced a grand total of -.2 war. which is better than 2016 which has produced a grand total of -.4. which is better than 2015 which has produced a total of - 1.5! give 2017 some time and it may start racking up enough negative war to catch 2015. in fairness to 2016 and 2015, at least they have guys who will make the majors. unlike 2017. where have you gone rey rivera, our nation turns its lonely eyes to you.
  23. could be worse...cubs pitchers have given up only 1 hit....and walked NINE. trailing 4-2 in the ninth. edit: two hits. betts just homered.
  24. only 2 playoff games a night sucks.
