I think what we miss as fans (me especially) is that there are a lot of considerations outside of merely what the players are on the ice. Like Nill only shopping Marchment to teams with no/low income tax. I'm guessing big parts of this trade were the Sabres didn't want to trade him to a team in the East (which I always find is a very dumb reason to not get the most value back, but we know they at least only shopped Eichel to west teams so this could be true again) and teams would only trade with the Sabres if they could get a long term extension done with Peterka. So the interested teams would have needed to fit that in their cap + have the desire to match his numbers on the contract, and Peterka would have to have wanted to sign there long term. But I also just think the Sabres are a badly run organization, so many guys leave there and seem to shine.

This would be the dream, but I don't think anyone wants Compher unless he has a big bounce back year this season and shows he isn't trending down. I guess you could do a pure cap dump and attach a pick but might as well just run him on line four at that point. Oddly enough it sounds like our old friend Kenny Holland could be looking to send the Kings' first round pick somewhere for a roster player.....they have the 24th OA pick

Definitely a salary dump for the Oilers (or maybe Bowman draws the line at criminal activity against women but not men?) as they have ~$15.5 million in cap space with 5 UFA and Bouchard as a RFA this offseason. I also didn't think Kane looked very effective these playoffs.

Depends who it is for, I'm fine with them using it in a trade if it gets an actual difference maker but I'm skeptical. I'm also fine choosing at 13 it seems like there should be some solid options there.

Ya I was quite shocked at the return, I guess the Ducks really wanted his cap space for free agency. He only has one year left on his contract so I guess most teams didn't want to give a raise to a one dimensional dude who's one dimension hasn't been great for a while. I don't think Tocchet is going to be good for him at all.

Well he had a 10 team no trade clause (which I didn't realize) and it is probably fairly likely that the Wings were on it. Plus: Unfortunately there are a lot more nuances to trades than just outbidding other teams. I'm honestly not sure why people assume Yzerman is just sitting on his hands. There were heavy rumors that we were really in on Stamkos last offseason (thank god that didn't happen with what money he got) and they had a deal worked out for Trouba that Trouba nixed. I have faith that he is going to try to improve the team through trades and FA but it doesn't always work out.
