Great period by the Wings. ASP's first goal, the Lightning didn't have a shot on net until six or so minutes left in the period (despite having a PP), Gibson ended up making a couple nice saves and the Wings had other chances. Good stuff!

Sounds like Raymond is out tonight versus the Lightning, still considered day to day. I had some hope he'd play with him rotating into the lines in practice yesterday.

This was a huge pet peeve of mine with Blashill and a bit under Lalonde. You'd have vets like Erne making dumb plays but only the kids ever got sat or called out in the media. I feel like tough love doesn't work unless you apply it evenly, and it certainly didn't help with player development under those coaches.

Kane just had a Chiarot shot hit him, it wasn't particularly hard I thought but he basically faceplanted in slow motion after it hit him. It took him a long time to get to the bench after, guessing some sort of injury...

They should be able to get nice assets for both but starting the rebuild cycle anew is a very tough look

Theoretically Ben Chiarot could be a real asset to a team, he has the attributes to be a great physical, crease clearing defenseman which every team needs. But I think a combo of him not having great hockey IQ (always running into the wrong defensive lanes) and him thinking he's a lot more skilled than he is (trying to rush the puck himself instead of passing) makes that impossible to materialize. Which is a real shame because his massive brain farts negate all the good he actually can do.
