  1. It's a shame Ned didn't get in a scrap for the Gordie Howe Hat Trick
  2. Reading back my posts from yesterday I feel like I was more aggressive than I intended so apologies about that. We had to put a pet down and I'm not in a great headspace. My internet was out all day yesterday so I couldn't even watch the game, that sucked. I hate these fires man. But is it a great feeling to have the Wings winning games. It is insane the turnaround from the new coach. I felt like Gustafsson was one of the worst Wings I ever had the displeasure of watching earlier this year and now he's actually making plays. It is crazy. He has 6 points in 7 games and a +2 in January!
  3. To me I feel like that just strengthens my point because if you're good enough to play, you will as we've seen with the players I've mentioned. The better players usually get drafted higher and the lower picks take longer to develop. Sure, but I think it ignores a lot of context surrounding Cossa. Not every draft crop is the same, so even just a blanket statement like top 15 picks need to play in the NHL within 4 seasons or they're being held back is tough to apply across drafts. Then when it comes to goalies, even first rounders take longer than skaters in the same pick range. Askarov was drafted the year before Cossa and he's only now this season getting "regular" NHL time as a backup with 8 games played so far (after starting the season in the AHL). He was a much more touted goalie than Cossa and drafted slightly higher (11th), and it still took an offseason trade for him to show up in the NHL for an extended period of time mid year.
  4. Everyone seems to ignore that Raymond made the wings at 19 and Seider at 20. Marco Kasper is playing at 20. If they think you're good enough to play in the NHL / don't have specific big things in your game to work on you'll be in the NHL. It seems like fans don't want to hear it but guys like Edvinsson definitely had stuff to work on in the AHL before becoming full time regulars (and he's a NHL regular playing 20 minutes a game at age 21!!!), putting young guys in the NHL just to do it isn't usually going to be helpful. Especially for a goalie. So I personally disagree with this notion that Yzerman keeps prospects in the AHL just to do it.
  5. In my opinion, with young goalies there is definitely a delicate balance between letting guys grow from mistakes and hurting their confidence. It was probably for the best he didn't experience Lalonde's defenses for extended periods of time. What I'm hoping for is that he finishes a great AHL season this year, and then he has a great playoffs for Grand Rapids. He starts backing up Talbot next season, maybe eventually working into a 1B situation. If they re-sign Husso at all then I'll lose my mind....
  6. Looks like he's been pretty solid so far which is awesome for him. I honestly had written him off.
  7. I didn't even realize Campbell was out of the player's assistance program!
  8. I would imagine the argument is that it is more beneficial for him to get experience being THE guy against pro players every game, including carrying that into the playoffs. Having him sitting for ~9 games a month probably isn't super ideal. Also, they may feel that he still has things to work on in his game. If you're trying to get him to focus on something specifically it probably is better in the AHL where the focus is more on developing rather than the NHL where the games "count". I'm not sure where I land on the debate, it could be beneficial for him to get NHL experience but I also don't watch a ton of Grand Rapids so I couldn't say if he's truly ready. I'm fine with them not rushing him in the end I think. I think next season will be when he makes more NHL starts with Husso and Lyon hitting free agency. Cossa also missed some games down in Grand Rapids recently so he may be getting over an injury. Lyon is also joining the team again, so this Husso start is hopefully just a blip because of the injury. Better to yoyo Husso than Cossa.
  9. Definitely felt like a jinx when I checked the score, I didn't have a chance to catch any of the game and it looks like it was for the best!
  10. Honestly was my first thought too lol
  11. I guarantee if they tried to send Johansson down he'd get claimed on waivers, I think he's shown enough the last few games that a few teams would take a chance. So hopefully it is Petry in the press box and not him.
  12. This feels like a huge insult to Brad Stuart 😂
  13. Might as well just bury him in the press box, he isn't making much money after the double retention and it is the last year of his deal thankfully
  14. I hope the Toddfather keeps playing Johansson even when Petry is healthy.
  15. I have to admit I really underestimated what a coaching change would do for the team.
  16. Bad second period for the Wings, down 1-2 now
  17. And now Edvinsson is hurt
  18. Crap Alex Lyon got hurt in the first, a Senator landed on him, Talbot in
  19. Oh duh it is Bob Kaser the Griffins PBP guy, Ken is sick apparently. He sounded familiar-ish but I haven't watched the Griffs in a while.
  20. I haven't been able to figure it out, but it is really throwing me off!
  21. Larkin scores on the ensuing PP! Fantastic passing and a well designed play to get him the easy goal.
  22. LOL Tkachuk got a penalty for removing Edvinsson's helmet in a scrum......I can't remember the last time I saw that called. Mickey wasn't impressed of course 😂
  23. Going to be a chippy game tonight, already plenty of scrums 6 minutes in
  24. It is pretty funny that almost all the playoff teams have a positive goal differential....then there's the Bruins hanging out with a worse differential than a lot of the teams in the wild card hunt!
  25. I don't think the NHL knows either
