    What do you expect? Six of the guys in today’s lineup have an OPS+ below 90. Another is a rookie heading in that direction. Any semi-competent MLB pitcher can handle a lineup like this.

    Point of clarification on MSU. This one had nothing to do with the good old boy network. Nasser targeted athletes coached by a woman. He got away with it because no one at the university really cared about the gymnastics team and, more importantly, he was able to abuse with near impunity under the guise of a procedure many in his field deemed medically effective. He even duped the FBI.

    They can't all be Miggy I guess. In his prime with the Tigers, 2008-2016, Cabrera had one month below a 100 OPS+ (93 in 2015) and an additional three months below 110 OPS+. He had only four months in a 9-year period where he had an OPS below 800. Remarkable consistency.

    The things you learn playing this game, like Phil Cavarretta, who played a million seasons with the Cubs, never had a 100 RBI season.

    All things being equal the benefits of bringing Malloy and Keith up for the final 3-4 weeks of the season far outweigh any further developing that they might do in that time period in AAA. But the 40-man roster issue overrides everything.

    Tigers allow 4.6 runs a game over 3 games. That is the league average for runs scored. Hopefully soon, like next year, when the pitching holds the opposition to league average in runs over 3 games the Tigers will win 2 of those 3 most of the time.

    I'd like to think Harris will work to add pieces that will raise the ceiling over the next two years.

    The record is bad. The run differential is ugly. But the vibe is much better, probably because there have not been many 2-8 stretches and for the most part the guys counted on for the future I've made progress.

    Those early games count in the standings but that the Tigers have played mostly .500 ball since then also tells me something. If they had started 8 games over .500 and played 15 games below .500 since then that would be also tell me something. Ones more positive than the other.

    If Baez is killing it for the first 4 months of 2024 that would very likely mean the Tigers are close enough to the top of the division that he won't be traded.

    The International League this year is ridiculous. You look at those Toledo numbers and assume they would be at the top of the IL . Instead they are middle of the pack. Juiced ball? Robo umps? Lousy pitching?
