  1. I also don't know if they would have developed under Avila's system. I don't know that they wouldn't have though and they aren't fully developed until they succeed in the majors. Having experienced the Randy Smith era Tigers (and I know many others here also remember that time), it's just hard for me to see Avila as the abject failure he's been made out to be.
  2. Thanks, I thought what Henning said was accurate and non-controversial. Bascally, Avila inherited a mess, did some things which will help the current and future Tigers, but had weaknesses in some areas - including the same areas where the Tigers have been weak for most of the last three decades. Now, Harris needs to take them to the next level and seems to have the ability to do so.
  3. If he's just talking about 2024, then he's correct.
  4. Ted Cruz has charm?
  5. I think Trump is more interested in humiliating people than killing them.
  6. I am under the impression that Biden cooperated a lot more than Trump which I think matters. It doesn't matter to Trump and his supporters, because they think he's above the law. It's like most people know they can go 10 mph above the speed limit and be ok. If they go 20 mph above, they know they are in trouble. Then one asshole goes 100 mph above the limit and tells the cop to **** off when he gets caught. Then he whines and cries victim when the cop treats him poorly. There are no excuses for someone like that.
  7. Americans are not happy like Europeans. https://www.wsj.com/health/wellness/world-happiness-report-americans-top-20-0f59cf98?mod=hp_lead_pos11
  8. People that commit those kinds of crimes are always wealthy and connected. That is why they don't get punished and that's not right. They should be punished more often. Why are you so sure that the penalty was exorbitant? Isn't he being asked to pay back what he gained from his criminal behavior? As for the politics, if Biden or Obama had committed those crimes, the Republicans would have been all over them. You know that 100%. Politics is nasty and Trump is an easy target, because he thinks laws do not pertain to him.
  9. I think he should have been punished severely for his financial crimes a long time ago. If they had did done this 20 years ago it would have been better. I don't feel bad for him at all. He's getting what he deserves. I think they didn't try to convict him in the past or succumbed to his delay tactics, but they are more motivated now due to politics. I understand that the timing makes it look bad to some people, but I am confident that his crimes are real and his presidential ambitions do not give him immunity. They should start nailing some other big fraudsters now BEFORE they think about running for President.
  10. The remaining free agents will do better in May.
  11. I have no idea if Ohtani was involved in gambling, but the story about his money getting stolen by his interpreter sounds unlikely. It's easier to believe that he was paying his interpreter's gambling debts. They probably won't be able to prove any wrong doing on his part (if there was any), but his name is going to be dragged all over social media in all kinds of conspiracy theoriies. His image may be tainted and perhaps his marketing appeal takes a hit.
  12. The timing is politically motivated, but he's been scammimg people his entire life. This should have been done a long time ago. Also, what Chuck said!
  13. Torkelson will get off to a slow start, but end up with 40 home runs.
  14. i was told that gambling was a positive thing for baseball and that it was foolish to think there might possibly be conflicts of interest.
  15. Getting old is when you forget his name.
  16. He was their best reliever last year.
  17. As an independent, I actually do think Trump is being targeted for political reasons, but he did the crimes and he deserves the consequences so **** him. They should have gone after him decades ago instead of waiting for his third presidential election. By independent, I mean I have zero loyalty to the Democratic party. The things they pretend to believe in mostly line-up with my beliefs, but I will vote against their candidates at any time if I don't like them. Now is not that time.
  18. Not bold enough!
  19. It's time for your bold predictions for the 2024 season. No projections, probabilities, confidence intervals or qualifying statements allowed. Just your bold predictions.
  20. He'll probably take pitching decisions to the wire, but I imagine there will be another round of cuts soon. There is really no mystery about the position players. There is often some procedural decision dictating the timing of cuts though. Edman might know more about that.
  21. I remember I once filled in at some big meeting of Bureau of Substance Abuse Researchers and directors because the big guns from Massachusetts couldn't show up. They were so worried that I would say something stupid because I was just a programmer. They told me to wear a suit and tie, don't say anything and take notes. I didn't wear a tie, but other than that I followed instructions. Some loud mouth director from Texas made a joke about beating his wife. His joke was received with no admonishment, just some nervous laughter and some oohs. I just sat there and shook my head.
  22. But then FanDuel threatened to pull out of their agreement and the players were re-instated.
  23. Next Thursday would be perfect timing!
