I hope they don't find a way to screw it up. The challenge system they have for other plays is terrible, way too slow. I understand that the ball strike challenges have gone pretty smoothly in the miniors. I would have preferred robo umps the whole game.

I'm thinking more about sequencing or identifying player tendencies. If they are using tech to learn player tendencies and they pitch that way too predictably, I can see where the opposition might catch up to that by changing their tendencies.

The last one makes a lot of sense.

Perhaps, it was an indication that the organization does not treat people well in general and that report brought things to light and got people talking. I am not saying I think that's true. The easiest safest explanation for a slump is random variation. I'm just throwing out the possibility that's is something more.

Given the moves they made and how little they gave up, they did about as well with their return as could be expected. I was not expecting anything from Morton, Paddack and Sewald. They weren't bad moves, but they I saw them as depth moves which could have possibly worked out. Sewald still might next year if they keep him

I don't think anybody here suggested that they should have traded Clark and McGonigle. Teams rarely have to trade their elite prospects in deadline trades. I personally can see both sides. I understand the Tigers wanting to keep all their prospects and I certainly understand it's not good to overpay for a two month rental. At the same time, I don't believe there is a magic window of opportunity in the future. I see their remaining time with Skubal as an opportunity which may or may not present itself again in the future. I was not pushing so much for deadline deals though. The off-season is a better time to be makking impact deals - either trades or free agents.

The statcast measures are not very predictive for pitchers.

Yeah, if you look beyond ERA, he ranks in the top 30 of MLB starters on every predictive stat. He has been really frustrating, but he seems like a good candidate to turn it around next year.

I agree with Rosenthal. They have a window of opportunity with Skubal. Hopefully, there will be new opportunities if he leaves, but we don't know that.

Obviously, if they can't get anything better than a comp pick for Skubal at the deadline, they should not trade him. But your argument sounds like an argument for being more aggressive in trying to win while he's still in Detroit which is something you have seemingly been against.

MWG opening the game thread is what the Tigers need to snap out of their long funk.

Regardless of whether it's fear or desire, I think there is almost no chance of that happening. If they are out the race at the deadline next year, then they will move Skubal and Mize, but I don't see them trading their core hitters at that time.

He'll probably stick to his conservative plan, but I think becoming more aggressive is more likely than starting a new re-build as a couple of posters fear.

If anything, missing the playoffs might make them a little more aggressive in trying to win now.

The MLB is not the NBA. The NBA's regular season doesn't matter because so many teams make the playoffs. What matters is being in peak shape for the playoffs. They are not going to hurt their chances of winning games that matter by getting injured in games that don't matter. That's going to happen in baseball soon too, but right now you still have to be good to make the MLB playoffs.

I believe they care a lot. Competitive people (and pro athletes are some of the most competitive people in the world) want to win and they get upset when they don't. If they somehow care less than us, then maybe there is something wrong with us. 😃

I think any year you are in first place with the best pitcher in baseball is a year when you really want to try to win. I agree with your point that they will likely have more opportunities to win over the next several years.

The end of this season reminds me of 2009. I hope the Guardians don't take Tork out for drinks this week.

I think criticism of Harris being too cautious could be more defensible than criticism of Hinch. I wished that they pushed harder during the off-season and the deadline, but I acknowledge that I don't know what or who they would have had to give up. The Tigers as a whole are pretty much what I thought they'd be - a team with a chance to contend but not dominant The move I really wanted to see was Bregman . Bregman was a perfect fit and I think he would have made a big difference. I think they came close to getting him, but we'll never know.

I think Hinch has gotten as much out of this team the past few years as any manager could, He's not the problem.

I thought he was out, but I believe Dickerson overstated the conclusiveness. it was too close to overturn.
