  1. I wouldn't do it because Martinez doesn't help the Tigers, but are they really going to get much for Anderson in a one for one?
  2. Maybe McGonigle and Clark and Liranzo take as long to get good as Torkelson and Adell or maybe they never get that good. Maybe Greene and Carpenter keep getting hurt and peak early. All I know is that they've got an 8-game lead and the best pitcher in baseball right now and that may never happen again.
  3. Skubal is one pretty big piece to lose! When all the great prospects are ready in a couple of years, it might be time for Greene, Torkelson and Carpenter to leave. I don't think there is some magical point in the future where we can say they are ready. They are ready now, maybe as much as they'll ever be. I am not saying this in response to their 1-9 funk. If I thought they were a bad team, I wouldn't suggest they explore a big move. I don't have a particular move in mind. I wouldn't want them to trade top prospects for a two month rental. If there is someone signed past this year, I'd consider it.
  4. I don't know about "go for broke". You only do that if the right trade can be made, but now is as good a time as ever to make a big move. They've got an 8-game lead and the best pitcher in baseball. After next year, they will most likely not have that pitcher and they probably won't have anyone close to that. They may be in better shape in a couple of years or maybe they'll be like the White Sox a few years ago or the Orioles now. When you have a team which probably won't be able to keep their best players, I think you have to take advantage of every opportunity.
  5. It is interesting that WSJ is breaking stories which I am sure they have known about for a while. They are a pretty conservative outlet with a wealthy audience, so not who you would normally expect to be targeting Trump. In fact, their editorial section used to be embarassingly pro-Trump. Why would they hold onto the birthday card story until now? Perhaps, you are right that they have what they want now, so they'd like to push out Trump before he screws things up.
  6. It will probably drop, but that won't necessarily mean an overall improvement in performance. I'm more concerned with his lower walk rate this year. Sluggers who don't make a lot of contact usually need to walk a lot to be successful.
  7. Home run hitters drive Cadillacs.
  8. I wonder if Greene and the Tigers staff has though about going for more contact instead of swinging for the fences or if Greene is just mindlessly swinging for the fences because he doesn't know any better?
  9. Did he recognize you from MotownForums?
  10. The only thing surprising about the news that Trump is in the files is that he hasn't found a way to get it erased. Not yet anyway.
  11. Most sluggers are streaky and there was no way he was going to keep hitting home runs at the same rate he did in June. He's not Aaron Judge. I'm not sure what people expect from him. In no season has he been an elite hitter. His overall production this year is as good as it's ever been. Strikeouts are difficult to watch, but weak ground balls to second base are too.
  12. He could hit a few more singles and a few fewer home runs. I think the trade off would be negligible. It would be great if he could do both - make a lot of contact and hit a lot of home runs. Then he'd be a superstar, but he's not that. At least not yet.
  13. I don't vehemently disagree that his strikeouts are somewhat of a problem since they hurt his OBP. His batting average is higher this year, so I don't know that "not putting the ball in play" is the issue" His BB rate is down too which hurts his OBP more. He seems to be sacrificing OBP for home runs and his home runs have been productive. Last year, his OBP/SLG was .348/.479 and this year it is .325/.530. The end result is the same: 135 wRC+ versus 136 wRC+.
  14. That happened once, but I think line-ups were more stable back then than they are today. Hinch almost never uses the same line-up twice.
  15. That's because today line-ups are changed daily to take advantage of match-ups and such.
  16. They may not have understood how terrible he is. I think a lot of young men (if you want to call them men!) voted for him because he's a bad a boy and a rebel and they thought that was cool. Now, perhaps they are seeing that it's not so funny
  17. He made a joke about Woo-suk Go. I don't remember exactly what it was. It was nothing egregious, but something you can't get away with when representing the Free Press.
  18. I guess young people don't like **** bags.
  19. If he goes in representing any team, it will most likely be the Tigers. He spent 13 years in Detroit. Ultimately though, the Hall of Fame is an individual award. He'll go in as Justin Verlander.
  20. That is seen as a great thing by MAGA. It is exactly what they want. Unfortunately for them and everybody else who has to deal with them, I don't think it can work anymore.
  21. I am a big fan of defense and I was thinking K'Bryan Hayes could be the new Brandon Inge, but he is even worse than Inge offensively. I don't think they can afford having a bat lke that in the line-up on a regular basis.
  22. I would think not. There is nothing more frustrating for a competitive athlete than not being able to compete due to injury. It's nice that he doesn't have to worry about money, but I would assume the desire burns just as strong.
  23. Filthy posters like Bert need to be censored.
  24. Odds are subject to change.
