  1. There is always uncertainty. Sometimes teams thrive when star players get injured. Look at what happened to the Tigers last year with every good player was either traded or injured. WAR tells you how many games a team loses on average if a player gets hurt. Sometimes they'll lose more and sometimes they'll do better depending on circumstances.
  2. There is also likely a fairly large percentage who neither supports nor fears him, but likes to take advantage of his presidency. Maybe you are lumping them into the support percentage.
  3. I don't bet regardless, but you are probably right about the risk/reward part. The Tigers are not uniquely vulnerable though. All of their opponents are just as vulnerable to injuries and slumps. We are more in tune with the Tigers warts because we watch them every day. As an aside, No team is ever one star player getting injured of a 5-6 game losing streak. A star player is typically worth 5-6 wins over an entire season, not one week.
  4. Obama easily won twice and he would have won in 2016 if he was allowed to run.
  5. Biden was never popular other than the obligatory blip following his election. He was elected because he wasn't Trump.
  6. I listened as I did my exercises this morning. It sounded like a whole lot of meh to me. The gist is Trump will lose influence only if the economy is failing or if there is a perception that it's failing. They don't think he is dramatically losing popularity at this point.
  7. The anti-intellectuialism coming from this administration could not be more obvious and intentional.
  8. Not that I care about betting odds, but they are still very heavy favorites to win the division.
  9. I don't go on Twitter much now, but I was just there. So many fans want Harris fired which is ridiculous. Lot's of ignorant fans out there. There are times when I'd like to see him be less cautious, but he's got the big picture right. He is doing great things for the organization.
  10. King Donald trying to fix an election is hardly a bombshell report.
  11. Don't worry everybody. The Tigers staff will be fine once Cobb, Lange and Sewald return.
  12. No, Not if they keep playing this way.
  13. The Tigers are reminding me of 2006 when they unexpectedly got off to a great start and built up a great lead as everything went right. Then they faded late in the season and failed to win the title. This year their fade started earlier and not winning the title could mean no playoffs.
  14. How is this not gritty?
  15. Yes, This was what I was trying to get at in the first part of my post. You explained it better.
  16. That is easier said than done for a lot of reasons and would probably result in less accurate data. They would have to get the respondents ( households and businesses) on board. Putting the burden on the survey takers could result in fewer completed surveys and less representative data. You need economists and statisticians to analyze trends, make adjustments, etc. Dating cleaning and validation are not as easy to automate as one would expect as different data issues come up all the time. In summary. They could automate everything to an extent, but it would give you less reliable results. The delays and revisions might give the perception that the results are not reliable, but they actually make the results more reliable.
  17. The Dickerson & Dirks combo is the best.
  18. It's too early to know which injured pitcher or guy coming off a bad year the Tigers will sign to a cheap 1-2 year deal.
  19. Dwight Lowry died in 1997 after a heart attack at age 39.
  20. That's why there are so many of them in baseball now. They never get bad backs.
  21. I agree. He is still just 24, so he should have plenty of time left. but he's probably not a good candidate for one of those 10-year deals as a free agent.
  22. And Tom Veryzer at shortstop!
  23. Somebody needs to be fired, https://www.marketwatch.com/story/biggest-part-of-the-u-s-economy-barely-grows-in-july-ism-finds-due-to-tariff-knock-on-effects-8d732689?mod=home_ln
  24. Yup, late data is generally the reason for revision of numbers in any agency. It can't be avoided. I suppose it could be avoided by ignoring the late surveys and never doing revisions, but would only be done if you are not interested in accuracy.
