LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
Tiger337 replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
I don't feel bad for the wealthy players. I just think they are right in this case. I don't get why people taking risks means they should get special consideration. That is just something wealthy businessmen have pounded into us to justify paying lower salaries than people are worth.- 1,851 replies

Why does taking a risk deserve special consideration? Don't we always tell regular people not too take risks with their money?- 1,851 replies

How did I move the goal posts? You were talking about taking risks like it's an honorable thing. I disagreed. Business owners taking risks does not warrant any special consideration. If they buy a team and they lose money, that's their fault. How much money the players make is irrelevant to my argument.- 1,851 replies

So? When poor people take a risk, we call them irresponsible. Why should wealthy people get special consideration for taking a risk? If you take a risk with your money and you screw up, that's your fault.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?

I doubt it. People who don't care about baseball are not going to care about the lockout. It's not like politics where people think decisions have a big effect on their lives (I think politics is way overrated but that's a discussion for a different forum) There aren't going to fake news stories or threats of violence from outsiders. It will be fans ridiculing the players and owners and threatening not to watch any more games.- 1,851 replies

If the current relationship is unfair, then of course the players would have more demands. Either the owners want to play a full season or they don't. That's where there can be leverage. It's a battle of wills. Which side is going to be hurt more by missed games?- 1,851 replies

OK, since 2018. That makes sense. Most of that was in 2019, but it is still an impressive number.

I don't feel bad for either side, but I am on the labor side. I despise Manfred and don't trust the owners. They are all making a fortune and the players (who are the product) want a bigger piece. Also Manfred sucks.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?

There has never been a strike or lockout during the social media era. This is going to get brutal if it cause games to be missed. It might actually pressure them to get things done faster.- 1,851 replies

Let him get his 3,000 hits and then pay him in his new role.
-
I appreciate the hustle, but he is of no use to the team if he keeps running into injuries.
-
I saw a quote saying that they were picking and choosing which games would get the juiced ball. Yankees and Red Sox got the juiced ball. Tigers and Royals got the dead ball. I won't even post the tweet because the source is suspect, but anything seems plausible in the Manfred era.

Manfred likes gambling Two different balls flying Pete Rose is laughing

Archie is getting owned by all you liberal meatheads.

He will probably be the Tigers best defender. The only one who has the potential to be better is probably Hill and we don't know how much he will play. I am not sure where you get 8th in all of baseball. The numbers didn't show it last year, but he was one of the best in 2019. There is no doubt he is a strong defender, but I am wondering where you got 8th best.

Strong defense up the middle should help a lot. There will be pitching injuries, so I hope they add some depth there. I don't think they need to be top offensive club, but I think they need to be average (which is possible).

The Tigers are probably a .500 team if everything goes as projected. However, they have a bunch of young players who could develop fast. If enough of them break out, they could contend.

I think if a school is located in a high crime area, these kinds of measures might make sense, not so much to prevent mass shootings, but to prevent violent crime in general. It's unfortunate to have to create that kind of environment at a school, but there are limited cases where I can see where it would make sense. However, most schools are not located in high crime areas and don't typically have many problems with shootings. Requiring all schools to have metal detectors and armed guards in an effort to stop a random mass shooting is going to create a feeling that the school is like a war zone. That's not a good environment.

Also, don't talk about the history of racism because it might make my son feel bad.
-
Desperate thinking by people who fear losing their toys.
-
That's just NRA propaganda. Mass shooters usually choose their location because they are enraged at people within the location. States with lax gun laws tend to have more gun homicides per capita than states with strict gun laws.
-
Let's just call them killing machines. All guns are designed to do one thing - kill.

I don't want the Tigers to be a team with constant turnover, but I agree the opt outs for Baez and Rodriguez could work out well.
