  1. And they'll need that today. Hinch and Harris got it right again. 😀
  2. Of course, Maeda was already off the roster. There is not much difference between Mize and Montero. I imagine the change has something to do with matchups.
  3. I thought Terrell was fine, not someone to build a staff around, but someone who could give them innings and win with the kind of team they had. The fact that they traded Howard Johnson for him was not good though. I do remember that the 80s teams always lacked one more starter. I remember dreaming up trades they could make for Floyd Bannister or someone like that.
  4. He was very likeable and loyal. A lot of players gave him credit for helping them in life which is more important than beng a good manager. It's hard to evaluate managers, but I felt that group should have won more. 1984 was a dream season, but 85 and 86 were disappointing. It was harder to make post-season back then, so I cant say they should have made the World Series every year, but I think they had the talent for more than one dominant season.
  5. Another thing was he semed to be better managing star egos than he was developing young players.
  6. I remember when they first signed Leyland as manager. Some of us were skeptical. You backed him 100%. You were right. He was an excellent manager and better person.
  7. I feel fortunate to live in a civilized state. They actually passed some sensible gun control laws recently: https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2024/10/02/healey-to-immediately-implement-gun-control-law-in-face-of-opposition/
  8. yes a write in or no vote better than a vote for Trump. I don't see it as a wasted vote. It's like a tie in sports instead of a loss.
  9. OK Thanks. She sounds like a beauty pageant contestant whenever she answers questions. Don't worry though. She has my vote.
  10. I bet about half the relievers will be in that group.
  11. I'd be damn happy with a 61% raise over 6 years! It beats the 15% I'll likely get. I like my job though, so I'm not complaining.
  12. Other than masterfully triggering a Trump meltdown in the debate, I think she has been really unimpressive. I am not aware of a single solid proposal from her so far. I am voting for her because she is up against one of the worst known human beings in the country. As I said before, I don't like to tell people who to vote for. If you vote for Cheney, that's one vote that's not going to Trump.
  13. It sounded like a compliment to me too!
  14. Not really. If he doesn't appove of either candidate, he shouldn't vote them. He can still make an impactful vote in other races.
  15. I thought Weld was a reasonable person when he was Governor of Massachusetts. He actually seemed like a middle of the road Republican, not radical.
  16. Go for it. I am not going to tell anyone who to vote for... As long as it's not Trump!
  17. I think the Tigers showed at the end of the year that they aren't going mess with under performers anymore. If Baez does comeback and doesn't hit, I think he'll be gone really quickly.
  18. I really doubt everything came together just because Baez was a cancer and all the young players suddenly felt better after he was gone. They were already starting to play better before he went on the IL. They did even better after he left, because they got his terrible bat out of the line-up and added some other players who had been in the minors or were hurt. If they acquired Bregman or Alonso and they hit, they would help the team. If they didn't hit, they would not help the team. The run they have been on since August 10 has been amazing, but I don't believe they are as good as their record during that span. If they came back with the same group next year, I don't believe they would do as well. At the same time, I do think they are pretty close to being a team that can be a perennial contender and it seems like the the right time to start spending. I do think they need another good bat, which could come from free agency or trade. They also need at another starter and a couple of relievers. I hope they try to acquire all of those things this off-season.
  19. I am not confident that Jung is any better than Torkelson, but Alonso is another player I wouldn't mind seeing them pursue. And if Jung is better that Torkelson, they could put Bregman at third and try Jung at first.
  20. Since, they are an 86-win team entering the second round of the playoffs, I think one player could very well be the last piece of the puzzle. I think Bergman is currently a great fit for the Tigers. How long he will be a great fit (and how many years it will take to sign him) is the question.
  21. I don't either, but a LOT of people equate being loud and obnoxious with being tough when in reality that kind of behavior more likely is being used to cover weaknesses.
  22. I agree a lot of men like him because think he's tough. In fact, I think a lot of men have traditionally voted Republican because they think the Republican ideal represents toughness and Trump takes that to a new level.
  23. I understand that, but I don't care about the NFL! Thus, I don't like them giving us a cheaper product to accommodate the NFL.
  24. I don't like all the days off in the playoffs. I wish it was more like the regular season. I understand they have to have a day(s) off when a series season ends early, but there is no baseball reason for an off day on Sunday. It helps the Tigers because it allows Skubal to pitch in more games, but in general I dislike it.
