  1. The polls haven't looked great for Harris this week. I know you can't tell anything from individual polls, but the aggregate seems to indicate that the post-debate momentum is gone and may be shifting back to Trump.
  2. Yes, post-season is different because of all the days off. You could already see the trend starting in prevous years, although not nearly to the extent the Tigers are doing it. In the Tigers case, it's done out of necessity because they don't have enough starters. In other cases, it might be teams taking advantage of having starters left without a traditional role due to the schedule.
  3. It's always a mix of both philosophies as it should be. Ideally, sabermetrics and scouting should complement each other, not be at odds with one another. As for whether the Tigers stand now, they definitely appear to be very saber inclined. They now employ more stat guys than any Tigers front office ever and Hinch pays a lot of attention to statistical reports in making decisions about all kinds of match-ups. The front office also uses a lot of analytics in all the transactions and player development. At the same time, a team needs to understand player personalities and the Tigers do seem concerned with adding certain types of personalities that will playwell together.
  4. yeah, my assumption is that the vast majority of pofessional athletes are incredibly competitive.
  5. It'definitely more fun that way. That's what the post-season is all about.
  6. I don't think pitching chaos will become that big of a thing. There are too many things that can go wrong when you are depending on bullpen games day after day - injuries, pitchers getting tired, etc. I doubt the Tigers or anyone else will try this for a full season next year. What I could see is teams going with 3 or 4 regular starters followed by a bullpen game or two. I don't think we will see what the Tigers did this year repeated again, but that's what makes it so special.
  7. I agree. I don't see the big sports leagues getting into ad free experiences. Maybe, they have and I missed it, but it doesn't seem like it would be profitable.
  8. Possibly, but it could just be a matter of him asking for more years than they wanted to give.
  9. Technically, yes, but it's misleading.
  10. I think debt is the one issue where you CAN both sides it. Clinton was only one in my life time that balanced the budget.
  11. Lefties that can't hit lefties don't usually learn how to hit them. I think it's a harder thing to fix than many fans believe.
  12. The problem is you can't become president unless you make a lot of promises and promising stuff costs big money (even if they are executed half ass as is usualy the case). That is why the Libertarians always get 1% of the vote. They promise not to do anything and people want stuff even if they insist that they don't.
  13. For the last nine years prior to my parent death this year, this was my single biggest issue. Now, I worry about what might happen to me in my old age. I have taken good care of myself and also saved my money, but you never knw what can happen and elder healthcare can wipe out svings really fast. Having Mdicare pay for at leat part of home healtcare would be huge.
  14. That makes me sad. He was one of my all-time favorite pitchers. I used to imitate him as a pitcher in Little League. It wasn't even on purpose.
  15. Did you wash your hands afterwards?
  16. Yeah, he was never highly rated, but he did put up some good numbers. The boxscore watchers were right this time. He was a 19th rounder out of Virginia Tech. Briam Bluhm would have loved him.
  17. Strangely, I feel no anxiety about the games at all. It's a great story regardless of the outcome. I get all the enjoyment and none of the anxiety.
  18. If days of rest were not an issue, I would have pitched Skubal in game 1. The sooner they win this series, the more days rest he gets before his first start in the third round of the playoffs. Keep pitching him as early as possible in each series and you might end up with an extra start out of him by the end of the World Series.
  19. Definitely true and I don't think the national media quite gets that. What else is new?
  20. You are correct on every point. We like to assume that billionaires must be smart, but that is not always the case. I mean it's nice to think that, in our capitalist system, hard working, smart people are the ones that rise to the top, but it's not always the case. I too used to think he was just shallow and ignorant, but it's more than that.
  21. He'll still get 2 starts if it goes 5 games. We didn't get an explanation because Hinch and Harris don't like to reveal what they are doing ahead of time. They believe it gives them a advantage if the other team is guessing. Of course, that means fans are left guessing too which can be annoying. In this case, it wasn't a surprise since Skubal has never pitched on three days rest.
  22. I like mailing in my ballot because I hate pople.
  23. Young players without a long track record are just as likely or more likely to fail as 30 year old free agents. The difference of course is the team doesn't get stuck with long contracts. It is really difficult to have long term success without eventually spending some money though. The key is to identify which players are likely to age well. I would think if you trust Harris & Co to know which young players will be successful, then you would trust them to know which players would age well. Maybe none of those guys are available now. I don't know.
  24. Yes, you are right. I don't know why I thought it was short rest.
  25. If you think nobody talking to you at the dinner table is a deterrent, you haven't met my family. 😃 Seriously though, I just don't see how shaming family and friends is ever a good strategy.
