I don't want either one of them at this point. As much as I would have liked Verlander to finish his career as a Tiger, they don't need another pitcher who will spend most of the season on the IL.

I am never sure about the tip jars. I usually give them something if they are pleasant. I do not know what is expected though. Are they like waiters and waitresses who are paid low wages and are expected to make money on tips? For me, that is main reason to give tips. Thus, I always give them 20% plus to servers regardless of the quality of service. Frankly, it's often easier to order standing up rather than waiting for a waiter to to take my order and then waiting again at the end of my meal to get a bill. I appreciate the work that they do, but they aren't really performing a necessary service for me and I only pay them because they need the money. I don't eat out that much and when I do it's often because I'm in a hurry after a long day of work and I don't feel like preparing a meal. I'd rather tip the cook and dish washer.

I think it's pretty impressive that he has done what she has politically at her age against a bunch of connected and experienced old farts. She gets a lot of attention (both negative and positive) because she is young and attractive and outspoken, but I believe she is smart.

yeah, I think it's not a good idea for her to make that her number one policy issue.

Alex Avila explained that he did slide to the inside, but his hand seemed to not extend because his batting glove got stuck in the dirt, so then he reached to the outside. It was a weird slide, but it looked that way to me too.

Not obvious at this point, but if he is relegated to the bench while they evaluate the young players down the stretch, it could be a sign.

That's the second poll this week where Harris is ahead in NC which is a state I hadn't really thought was one they could win. True, but I was deliberately giving the shallow interpretation of her plan there. That is what we'll be hearing for days. I mean going after gross price gouging is good, but that's not the primay, secondary or tertiary reason for inflation. It seems to have low practical upside utility and high image risk.

The price gouging ban might play well to her populist base, but it opens her up to more accusations of communism. It's unrealistic and shouldn't be #1 on her economic plan.

You can never have enough pitching depth...but I thought they had decent pitching depth going into the season. In fact, I thought they had playoff quality pitching going in. If anything, I wish they had done more on the offensive side. I am not sure what they tried to do or what they could have done. It just seemed a waste to have such solid pitching and no offensive support.

I am not blaming Harris, but I doubt any of those guys will replace Mize's performance over let's say 80 innings. Mize has been somewhat of a disappointment, but still an average starter when healthy. These guys are probably replacement level which is what you can expect from AAA depth,

It is indeed difficult to carry average major leaguers on the bench or in the minors. It is expensive and it's also difficult for the players to not play regularly when they know they are good. However, the teams that best figure out how to manage the new game of attrition are going to have am advantage. I am not blaming Tigers management, just commenting on the state of the game.

It didn't used to be normal, but the the linked list shows that it is. Depth has become a more important part of roster building than it ever was.

I think it's easier to push the rigged election narrative in a close race. Some people will fall for it regardless, but I think most people would be quiet if it's a landslide.
