You worry too much about Foley. There are lots of mediocre closers in baseball who blow games and usually they are just fine the next outing

If they wait until the end of the year and the Tigers make the playoffs and the Royals don't, then it will be Hinch. I think a lot of writers mail it in early though. This is not an award that matters to me at all though, so I'll be fine either way.

They won the game, so there is no reason for him to feel down. I also don't think this is going to go down as an epic game in Tigers history. There have been a bunch of memorable games the last few weeks and I don't see this game as standing out from the others.

I dont think they think that deeply. Like everything else, It's a binary thing for them. The people making the laws with exceptions for rape and incest are just pretending to be reasonable for the middle of the road midwestern women.

I can see that. FG trying to predict what teams will do over the last week based on projections doesn't do much for me, but the BR system (which I didn't know much about) seems more useful for curiousity sake.

I think some of their pitchers are not as good as they have shown the past several weeks, but I also think Hinch/Fetter have utilized the staff in a way that maximizes their abilities. This is something that would not show up in the FG system. I don't know if it should or not. I think their pitcher utilization has been a real asset, but I am also not sure how long the success from it can be sustained.

I think they try to guess how many innings each pitcher will throw the rest of the way regardless of how they are used. I would guess that in systems which project player performance, pitching one inning as an opener is the same as pitching one inning in middle relief.

They could very well go far in the playoffs this year. However, regardless of how they finish, I wouldn't count on the same group sustaining this kind of play for 162 games. I am hoping they make significant upgrades this off-season.

I do look at these probabilities before the season starts, so I can see which teams are likely to do well over the course of the long season. Half way through the season, I will look at them to see who should buy or sell. I just can't myself to care about them over a short period. At this point, if your team is alive they are alive. Probabilities are always in my head somewhere, but when I watch the game tomorrow I am not going to care whether Fangraphs thinks the Tigers have a 40% probability or a 60% probability. They were less than 10% just a few games ago. On the other hand, I think I get why it might be fun to watch them go from 10% to 100%.

In a nine game stretch, any team, regardless of how well or how poorly they have been playing could get hot for few games and go into a little slump. It happens all the time. But when your team has a shot, you just hope they stay hot and enjoy one game at a time.

I think playoff odds are pretty much useless at this point in the season.
