Week Twelve: Buffalo Bills (7-3) @ Detroit Lions (4-6)
MichiganCardinal replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Given they still had timeouts it may have been worth their time to try and draw Buffalo offsides. I don’t think Campbell lost us this game. If anything he kept us in it. I think Campbell is a very good motivator, an excellent leader, and an okay game day coach. For where we are as a franchise right now I think he’s perfect. -edit Fine a perfect coach would be perfect in all facets. I have no complaints though. -
I’m confused too. If his assistants are upset, I’m okay with some amount of public outcry. If no one on their staff cares and this is just speculation based off of the results of a FOIA request, I don’t really care how Michigan State distributes the entirely excessive amount of money Tucker is receiving.

I think Goff is who we thought he was. He’s putting together a body of work that the expectations are clear. He’s not going to carry the team on his back. He’s not going to win you the game. He won’t make a ton of mistakes. And with a good supporting cast, you’ll probably win a fair number of games. As others have said, if Chark catches that pass, we aren’t thinking about how it was a poor decision. And frankly, if the receiver on the other end was someone better than Chark, they probably catch it anyway. I set my expectations before the game that I wanted a competitive game. Doesn’t make the sting less, but we definitely got a competitive game. I think - if they continue on this trajectory - this could be one of the best teams in franchise history next year. Holmes is really impressive. -

Probably need to go 5-1 the rest of the way to be a playoff team. 4-2 might do it with some luck elsewhere. Jaguars, Vikings, Jets, Panthers, Bears, Packers I am pretty confident they are better than at least 4 of those teams. Still a tall task. -

FWIW Campbell looks better than either McCarthy or Daboll right now. -

Y’all have been holding on to these for far too long. -
It’s probably majority Lions pretty much year-round. With how bad the teams have all been for the last decade, the rest fluctuates with who is showing any inkling of promise, or when there is topical news (like Miggy’s chase for milestones or Avila getting canned). The topic of “who will be good again first?” Seems to come up weekly.

Growing up, I liked Caputo a lot. It may have been just because he wrote for The Oakland Press so he would shoutout the local high school sports scene. In the last 5-10 years though, it’s just been clear he doesn’t even watch the games anymore.
-
That’s fair. I did answer my own question. It feels like it’s more than the UM/MSU piece, because I hate listening to him talk on the Lions too. All the same though. I am not a fan of Stoney either. I think CBS was smart to put him on the morning show, where it’s less sports and more talk. I would also put Caputo in that category. I think there are drunk uncles out there who do are more knowledgeable about today’s game than Pat Caputo.

I disagree that ratings correlate to quality in sports talk radio. I think Valenti knows how to drive up ratings, and he’s a master at that craft. Tip of the cap for that. I really like the 10-2 slot on 97.1 with Doug and Gator. They’re generally intelligent and can carry a four-hour conversation, which is no easy task… they also have great chemistry together. I find Valenti to be borderline unlistenable oftentimes.
-
Listening to Mike Valenti whine, moan, victim blame, and whatabout is something else… there are rational takes and then there is yelling at callers to shut up when they ask you what Michigan did to deserve it. He went off the deep end long ago, but it’s sad that he’s still given this platform.

CFP Committee holds serve. I still think this is correct.

I don't think the Rams will be quick to give up on their season. If they were faced with a decision like Stafford needing a surgery (Tommy John?), and were told "this surgery has between X-Y months of recovery time. If he gets it now, he will be ready for 2023 Training Camp. If he waits until January, he may miss time in the 2023 season", I could see them encouraging Stafford to get it done now. Absent that scenario though, I don't see incentive for them to just give up on their season. They have a 2nd, 3rd, (3) 6th Round picks, and (2) 7th Round picks... Winning games might drop them a little in the 2nd and 3rd, but their large number of later round picks would probably make up for it if they needed to move up. On the flip side, they are 3-7 and the leader in their division is 6-4. The #7 seed is also 6-4 currently. Three games is not insurmountable, especially when they still have both games against the Seahawks to come. They've looked awful of late, but if you said before the season that the Rams would go on a 6-1 run to finish the season, no one would have batted an eye. That's not to say they won't keep losing though. They have the Chiefs next week who will likely put them at 3-8. That can take the heart out of any team.

I think it's just waiting for one of Corum, Stroud, or Williams to go out there and take the presenter's choice away. If Corum goes out and gives an incredible performance like Hassan Haskins did last year, especially while hurt, it'll be his for the taking... If Williams leads his team to a 12-1 playoff berth, with quality wins over Notre Dame and Oregon to close the season, he may just clinch the thing... If Stroud goes out and leads his team to a 13-0 B1G Championship, and Williams doesn't step up, they'll probably give it to Stroud by default for being the best "leader". I don't think Stroud has earned it though by any stretch of the imagination.

Is Ole Miss to Auburn really a substantial step up? Seems to me if you have to play LSU and Alabama every year, it doesn't much matter whether the letters on your polo are Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Auburn, Texas A&M, or even Arkansas. You're climbing the Mount Everest of divisions. Unless Ole Miss can't match Auburn's money... but if MSU can pay a career 18-14 coach $95 million, I'm sure Mississippi's donors wouldn't let him get away unless that's just what he wants to do... Besides that though, does Auburn really want to be the next 2012-2013 USC? Or the next 2009 Tennessee? I don't get it. The guy is toxic and a good-not-great football coach.

Week Twelve: Buffalo Bills (7-3) @ Detroit Lions (4-6)

This game has large implications for the Lions... Have to think if they manage to pull out a win, they will have somehow have found themselves on an inside track for a wildcard spot in looking at their future opponents. A loss certainly doesn't take them out of consideration, but a win makes a huge statement on a national scale. I want to see a competitive game, and I think we will. MCDC's teams have always seemed to rise to the occasion in games against the best of the NFL, even when they come up short in the end (Eagles this year, Rams and Cardinals last year). I think the spread on this game is astronomical and will come down as the week goes on. It's hard to expect a win over a team that may be the Super Bowl favorite, but let's go out there and fight, see what happens. -
I expect a very good, very close game reminiscent of 2006 and 2016. Hopefully with a different result. Michigan's game plan will be the same as it was last year. Dominate the trenches, play your style of game, and don't turn the ball over on offense... Dominate the trenches and don't give up the big play on defense. Michigan remains the superior team physically, but Ohio State is head-and-shoulders above them athletically. JJ will need to step up, and at least one of Corum and Edwards will need to be on their game, preferably both. The weather may be on Michigan's side as well.

I think in that case they still go (1) TCU, (2) Georgia, (3) 12-1 UM/OSU, (4) LSU, (5) USC People wouldn’t be happy about it, but I don’t think there is enough respect for the PAC 12 to have their best one-loss team bump the B1G’s best one-loss B1G team. I also don’t think it will happen.
