Lions have nine picks in this draft. Something tells me they don’t want to go home with nine guys. They need starters at DT and X receiver, future starters at CB and RG, and a rotational RB to pick up for Swift. That’s five picks, which would fit into their first three rounds. Depending on how the board falls they may pick up depth at LB, TE, or DB, but they have four late round picks that they can use to jump around the board and target they guys they like.

Yeah it’s a shame it worked out this way for Okudah and the Lions but they were never going to pick up his option and this trade saves them the drama of ongoing questions about it. If Darius Slay got a 3rd and a 5th, a 5th for Okudah is reasonable.

Yes, if they can’t get comfortable with Carter or trade back, Skoronski at 6 would not be as big of a stretch as people think. He is likely to be a perennial pro bowl guard. Also, the biggest risk I see next season is that Ragnow and Vaitai miss significant time and their injuries overlap. Suddenly you have a makeshift OL (as with a few games last season) which leaves Goff more at risk. I still hope they can get comfortable with Carter. He is a wrecking ball.

Of course the Cardinals are getting multiple inquiries (and offers). Of course they will weigh those offers against their own evaluations of how Anderson and Carter would fit on their roster. But all that interest means it won't be cheap to move up. I don't see how it will make sense for the Lions to trade up to fill a DE position that is already reasonably well set, especially when their competition will be teams desperate for a QB.

I saw that draft. I don’t buy it at all. It will be very expensive to trade up to 3. I don’t see them drafting a QB (and don’t want them to). Mock drafters are obsessed with Detroit drafting a TE, as if the only thing they know about the team is that Hockenson got traded. I thought it was a bad mock all the way around.
