  1. Charles Rogers had a drug problem. Titus Young had psychiatric problems. As far as we know Jalen Carter drives too fast and may be depressed over his connection with a fatal car crash — in which he was not the driver and he did not collide with the other vehicle. Not every red flag is the same.
  2. Brad Hopkins and Bill Lekas from Sirius XM NFL radio have Carter going 6 to Detroit.
  3. I listened to the first ten minutes. I don’t know what to make of it.
  4. The guy has some red flags but I see a lot of people jumping to conclusion and even convictions without having very much evidence. If Carter is off the Lions draft board that is fine with me. If he’s not off it yet, I feel confident that Holmes and Campbell, and almost certainly Sheila and Spielman, will do all the digging and interviewing they can. If they get comfortable with him, I’ll be ok with it. If they find more character concerns, or can’t resolve what’s already out there, they’ll move on and I’ll be ok with it.
  5. Maybe I haven’t followed closely enough but I have heard mixed reports on leaving the scene. Also, I’m not a lawyer but I’m not sure that even if he did leave the scene of this accident that he would be guilty of a crime. He was not in the car with the decedents and his car (to the best of my knowledge) did not impact theirs or otherwise cause their accident. Again, he may be guilty of a lot of things here, and some of them may even be crimes. But what I’ve heard points to tragic immaturity. This may or may not disqualify him but in my mind what I know does not disqualify him.
  6. I’m still not sure if he did anything I would consider “bad.” Yes, he may have been immature. Yes, there may be some unreported incidents. Yes, he was not in great shape for his workout. Yes, all these are red flags. But I haven’t heard anything yet that makes me think he shouldn’t be on the draft board. Maybe he just needs some father figures and big brothers to keep him focused.
  7. Well, it turned out better for everyone in the end. Except Jamaal. It turned out better for everyone but him.
  8. Here is Birkett relating the case for Detroit being able to rehabilitate Carter: https://www.motownlions.com/2023/03/31/detroit-lions-drafting-jalen-carter-one-of-the-few-teams-where-it-could-be-a-home-run/
  9. People even 4D chess is not good enough. We need our franchise to play at least 6D chess.
  10. Moving the Chains from SiriusXM NFL Radio is having its mock draft. Pat Kirwan had the Lions taking Tyree Wilson at 6 and Joey Porter at 18. I could be content with this. On Wilson, he said he would be an upgrade over Cominsky (“a lunch pail guy”) and give Hutch a bookend. Said Wilson would play at 280 and there aren’t a lot of guys that big with his athleticism. Cited 40+ plays behind the LOS in last 23 games. Also said Carter was still on the board here but he wouldn’t take him at 6.
  11. He might have been able to do it if he had an agent.
  12. Yes, he’s the sneaky one. I could kind of see Holmes sprinting up and saying we are going to get 1800+ yards from scrimmage and 15 TDs a season from this guy for five years.
  13. I just don’t see the guy who Holmes will run to the podium to pick at 6. Maybe Gonzalez merits a brisk walk at 6, but not a run. Carter? He’ll be walking on eggshells. His first draft everyone was hoping Sewell would drop. Last year it was Hutch. This year he’ll have a big decision.
  14. Dude, you were posting mock drafters an hour ago. You were posting stuff from a site I've never heard of, that has information inconsistent with better known sources, that has no sources inside the team, that does not have writers who travel with the team. The beat writers have covered the team every day for 13 years (Birkett) and 7 years (Rogers). If you think you and your random internet site know better than guys who have been covering the team for a combined 20 years, good for you.
  15. It only maybe made sense if they cut Vaitai and/or before re-signing Glasgow. They still need more depth at RG since both Vaitai and Ragnow have health concerns and Glasgow is the backup for both of them.
  16. The beat writers from the News and the Free Press both had him at 6 in their mock drafts. If you think it's a bad idea you could write a letter to the editor.
  17. He fits the bill. His ceiling is not as high as Chark's but he will be more reliable and cheaper. They need depth at DT, CB, RG, RB, WR, TE, LB. But they can only address five of these positions in the early rounds. It will be interesting to see what positions get left out.
  18. Yes, this is why the beat writers put Skoronski at 6. RAS of 9.26 as a Tackle. His Northwestern teammate Slater was at 9.71 and went to the Pro Bowl as a rookie. Sewell seems to have been scored 9.32. Skoronski is a really athletic guy. This pick doesn’t make as much sense now that Vaitai is restructured and apparently healthy. But Skoronski’s floor is probably as a top five player at his position for 8-10 seasons. His ceiling is multi-year Pro Bowl right tackle. A GM might regret not being able to trade back a few slots to take him, but I doubt the GM who takes him will regret it. I agree that 6 is too high for a guard on a team that already has two high quality starting guards. And a team that still needs CBs and has the chance to get a physical freak like Gonzalez. But Skoronski will probably get picked at 9 by Chicago and if not then probably at 11 by Tennessee. So Skoronski at 6 would not nearly be the over-draft that some are making it out to be.
  19. This is good to hear, though this time of year you take it with a grain of salt. It has not been clear where he slots in next to the two blue chip defenders. Many mocks go in many different directions after pick 5, indicating question marks. When you read about him more you see things like “not fully polished” and that he will start as a “rotational player.” PFF has his best graded game against Murray State but with a pedestrian rating against Oklahoma State. Is that worth a 6?
  20. But how much did Lamar save on agent fees?
  21. Yeah he wasn’t recovered from the first surgery until like week 10 last season, now another. Too bad for him.
  22. Apparently this is what Holmes knew that we didn’t.
  23. Good. They should meet with him and ask him all sorts of tough and uncomfortable questions.
  24. Honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if they told Goff they will take Stroud if he falls to them. But he won’t fall that far and Detroit won’t go get him.
