  1. “But then you have your QB in a box, and man that guy might actually turn out to be as good as Goff. That’s what makes it so hard.”
  2. Trading to 12 is nothing like trading to 3, especially when you will be competing with multiple teams desperate for a QB lottery ticket, and also competing with Arizona’s interest in the draft’s blue chip defensive prospect. Throw the draft chart out the window. This is an auction with an exorbitantly high reserve.
  3. Their suggestion is more realistic than the 6 and a second rounder. Arizona is open for business and probably has multiple trade offers on the table that they will play against one another.
  4. Don’t be surprised if his agent releases a statement saying that he is being treated for depression related to grief about the accident. I am not making a claim that he is or isn’t, just that it wouldn’t surprise me to hear a report like this.
  5. Yes, I see your point. The questions for Detroit are, do you project him to become a starting tackle for 8-10 years after Decker’s contract is up, and does this represent “positional value”?
  6. Welcome. Good to have you. Jaymo will eventually take Chark’s place as the second receiving option but they could still use a big guy who can work the sideline and open up space for ASB and Jaymo. As a payroll matter it seems Holmes is planning to commit money to ASB and probably to Jaymo. So it seems they will look for an X in the draft. I doubt it will be in the first round though. And probably not in the second.
  7. He’s projected so high because his closest comp is his former teammate Rashawn Slater who became a Pro Bowl left tackle as a rookie. He’s being mocked to Detroit now by two beat writers (Birkett and Rogers) because the defensive talent question has been unclear after Anderson and Carter, and is especially murky with Carter’s red flags. Again, I don’t love it at 6, but I don’t hate it and would understand it. Would still rather them trade back, and if they can’t would rather see Gonzalez.
  8. The fact that they would pay him $15 million a year without a competent QB throwing to him — and then look to get rid of him when they get a pro bowl QB — says a lot about the shape the Broncos are in.
  9. I think it means they were trying to hold a fire sale then realized buyers expected the price to be low. But Sutton makes too much money for a guy ESPN analytics has as the #62 receiver in the NFL (tied with TJ Hockenson, incidentally). https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/nfl-receiver-rankings/
  10. It sounds good as a slogan but he has had two drafts in which arguably the top prospect in each draft fell in his lap. We don’t know what he will do in this draft where there are so many question marks at his draft slot.
  11. I don’t know the details of the case beyond the fact that the jury believed Cephus over his (two?) accusers. And it wasn’t even close. So I don’t know if it was a gross miscarriage of justice that he was acquitted, an indication that he was falsely accused, or something in between. I don’t think Carter’s legal troubles are disqualifying, necessarily. And I don’t even think his workout performance is necessarily disqualifying. But he is clearly immature. That’s an alarming prospect if you are considering paying a guy $30 million.
  12. I doubt Anderson falls but if he does that’s great. Gonzalez has the athletic profile, tape, and upside to take at 6. Carter… if they think he can find his footing under their watchful eyes, then fingers crossed. Wilson… he seems like one of several lesser DL who are interchangeably mocked to us. I just don’t know. Skoronski arguably has the highest floor of any player in the draft.
  13. He was acquitted in a jury trial. Unanimously. After just 45 minutes of deliberation. Maybe he's really guilty, but that jury didn't think so. https://www.sheboyganpress.com/story/opinion/2019/08/09/quintez-cephus-acquittal-shows-dangers-presuming-guilt-former-wisconsin-badgers-football-player/1966113001/ As far as I'm concerned, the only thing he is guilty of is being slow and fragile. But maybe this year he puts it all together.
  14. Yes, this is probably right. And in light of this maybe Holmes played his hand too aggressively, thinking he could wait Chark out, let the market reveal its price, then meet it. In any case, X will be a need going into draft day.
  15. Yes, I would take Gonzalez (but not Witherspoon) before Skoronski. And I would be surprised if Holmes takes the WR at 6. But maybe that's why they let Clark walk.
  16. I don't love Skoronski at 6, but I would understand it. If Carter hadn't disqualified himself as a prospect it would be out of the question. Skoronski is sliding down a bit in some mocks. Early on it seems he was in the 7-12 range. Now some mocks have him going as late as 16 to Tennessee. He won't be around at 18. He's similar to his predecessor, Rashawn Slater, maybe not quite athletically as gifted (9.28 RAS to Slater's 9.96). But he could easily be a Pro Bowl player at OG then kick to RG at the end of 2024 when Decker's contract is up and Sewell gets paid. And again, you have Vaitai at RG who has back issues, Ragnow who has foot issues, and Glasgow backing up both spots. Skoronski would play at a high level for ten years. Maybe they like one of the DL better at 6, but I would get it if they went for Skoronski.
  17. Exactly. But if we know anything about Holmes it is that he doesn’t make decisions that he doesn’t calculate.
  18. Letting Chark walk for so cheap is a little surprising. Maybe they know something the rest of us don’t about his health. Or maybe there is a guy they really like in the draft. But I don’t feel great going into this season with a rookie starting on the outside. would Holmes really trade for Hopkins? Or it sounds like Denver wants to unload its young receivers
  19. https://www.motownlions.com/2023/03/24/mounting-character-concerns-mean-detroit-lions-pass-on-jalen-carter-for-now-in-mock-draft/ Birkett is mocking Skoronski to Detroit at 6. I’ve seen him as a dark horse candidate at 6 for a while. Maybe it is a bit of a luxury to pick a guard at 6, but he will play in the league at a high level for a decade. And with health questions for Ragnow and Vaitai, maybe he would be less of a luxury than we expect now.
  20. Yes, but where will they get their X? I still think they have a hole in their WR room.
  21. Should we keep Goff as a backup just in case?
  22. Plus Stroud might actually turn out to be as good as the QB we already have, so YOLO!
  23. I agree with this. I hope it is not early. Especially since we now need an X receiver, either in the draft or by trading for one.
  24. He didn’t prove it.
  25. What is harder to imagine… Tennessee drafting a QB this season after drafting Willis, or them NOT drafting a QB this season after drafting Willis?
