The GM has soft pedaled 'contention' every time he speaks on the record. It shouldn't be that shocking at this point. This is a year for evaluation, not competing.
The gulf between AAA and the majors has never been larger. I think they want Tork to figure it out up north; Any success he has down in Toledo might be fool's gold.
It's similar to guys like JHM and Jung. Their stats in Toledo only tell one part of the story. You can't transpose their performance to the majors. How many guys do we have to see come up before we realize the difference between Toledo and Detroit? The prospects seem like a solution because they haven't failed yet.
Tork went 0-7 in the two games. He just doesn't do anything aside from the occasional double and infrequent homer.
And even if he has a resurgent two months later, how can you count on him for anything next year?
If this is a season of evaluation, Mize needs the entire duration(innings limit) to figure it out. Tork has been healthy so we have data for evaluation purposes.
Setting up all of those carp and Greene pinch hitting chances that almost never come up. This is where Hinch’s adherence to platoon splits(with this current roster) is a little crazy. I agree with him on bullpen usage but not this.
