  1. let's win one game in a row.
  2. Their entire modus operandi is to let this offense sit around in the name of development. Jung has huge defensive issues and we're still not sure he has solved his contact problems.
  3. Calling up Jung doesn't make sense to me...maybe they see something that we don't.
  4. We have to frame calling up guys from Toledo as a way to further their development. It's not about saving this season or fixing this terrible offense. JHM deserves more time to see if his hit tool can develop facing major league stuff. Keith has to stay up because of their investment in him. If they think Meadows has made some good swing changes, he deserves a shot and Baddoo should be sent back down. But they can't fix this season either way.
  5. I know messaging doesn't matter on bad teams. The only thing you can fix is adding talent and winning. But fans deserve to hear from him or ownership that things will be ok...even if we are skeptical.
  6. I know we are stuck with this roster...but playing McKinstry and Urshela on a team going nowhere is such a waste of time. Guessing we have reached the end of the line with Baddoo as soon as tomorrow. Ibanez will probably be moved at the deadline but you won't much. Call up Meadows and invest more time in Wenceel for the rest of the year.
  7. He always complements the opposing pitcher like he's vintage Verlander.
  8. I know the front office doesn't care about results...but this is really an embarassing offensive product. I don't care about how long Harris has been around or Ilitch sitting in the stands. Someone let the product rot to this point...and they can't do anything to fix it.
  9. They are one inning away from a one run offensive output...which would put them at 3 total runs in 4 losses..game 1 in Houston was a shutout.
  10. Malloy is going to get killed with spin but maybe he can hit fastballs...that would be progress with this offense.
  11. Oh I think Malloy gets more time...because he's right handed and they have nothing from that side of the plate with Tork down.
  12. I think I was agreeing with you. If JHM doesn't hit, he has no other value.
  13. And he has no defensive value.
  14. I hear the beat writers say that Meadows will replace Baddoo this weekend. That makes sense. I'm willing to give JHM more time but he has a long way to go.
  15. Get Bert his 2 runs(we have lowered the threshold).
  16. Mize is grinding it out...giving the offense a chance.
  17. The Atlanta guy threw 3 sliders and a curve to Malloy, then he wasted a fastball. Malloy flew out on a slider.
  18. That's two infield errors...another one on Keith.
  19. Hinch talks about how they they always get two out singles and can't stack any kind of offense together. I've seen him mention it at least five times in his postgame. First two guys make outs, then the 3rd guy hits a meaningless single which doesn't matter. To counteract that, you would need some power but they have very little of it.
  20. He does not miss bats...at all.
  21. I looked at rental trades last year and didn’t see a lot of great prospects moving.
  22. If they are going to lean into a pitching and defense model, that’s great. They don’t have the athletic profiles in the upper minors to accomplish that…aside from Meadows. They have a lot of dh types who might hit if they cleanup issues(Jung contact rate, Keith hitting development in the majors, tork miracle). Unless you get an elite guy in free agency(in his prime), you will invariably get stuck with a terrible contract. He has to figure out how to build a functional roster before the second wave of prospects are ready. They have more than enough money to make trades. The Lorenzen trade was probably a marginal win. We need to see them get a decent lotto ticket for Flaherty.
  23. This is a strong post. I’m scarred by Avila’s rebuild and other failed ‘restores’ in recent Detroit history. But will Harris defer to giving young players time in Detroit because he has no other plan for the immediate future? Is a young player failing consistently good for their development. IMO, this is the abstract judgement that we don’t have answers for. The issue they have in the high minors is that most of these guys aren’t positionally versatile. Jung likely isn’t a 3rd baseman, Keith isn’t a 2B, and most of the hit tool guys they have profile as corner of or dh(Malloy types). I wish these guys could actually hit. But hitting development around the sport is bad right now. I generally understand Harris minor league dev process. I don’t really know how we are going to field a real major league offense unless he makes some baseball trades or has something else up his sleeve. So I need to see his roster building process yield results before I buy in.
  24. All the close low scoring games they were winning in March and April with low strand rates and clutch bullpen performance….that regresses to a point where we are now. If we could score more runs and have a three or four run lead occasionally, it would reduce the leverage that bullpen is under constantly. The offense isn’t going to get fixed anytime in the near future, so we will have to deal with this.
