The free agent class is terrible. But there should be opportunity to find a team that wants to cut payroll and take a big contract off their hands to fill in offensive gaps.

On Petzold and Voldemort's pod, they posited that the Tigers would be content with adding at least 3 rookies(JHM, Keith, and Jung) and roll into 2024 as another evaluation season. Voldemort pushed back on that thinking...given how low the payroll is now. The free agent class is terrible. However, I don't think you can sell a skeptical fanbase on just adding more young and untested hitters as a path to improving a still terrible offense.

I would take a middling/league average type vs lighting at-bats on fire with Maton..in the name of misguided player development. If you see stories about how they fixed Maton's pitch recognition and swing, then they are going to try that again. Free agency should be about floor raisers. Development is where you get high ceiling types.

Good plan...that takes a lot of time, luck and precise development. In the meantime, I want them to try and compete on the margins while these young players are integrated into the roster. You can't have so many black holes in your lineup while we are waiting for young guys.

The free agent market is bad for everything. Old hitters and old starting pitchers.

The results don't matter this late in a lost season. I would like to see the 'core 3' get back on track soon. And I'd like to see Manning and Skubal have some good outings. Aside from Meadows, I'm not really sure that any of the other guys are potential long term pieces. Get to the end of the year and try to improve the team.

Will they use the Baez contract to argue against spending on major league players? Absolutely.

Highly doubtful that you see Chris Jones in this game...even if he ends his holdout.
