Also hitting prospects sometimes fail. Greene is a huge hit, maybe Wenceel is too idk. Out of Tork, Meadows, and Keith, who knows which guy will be able to stack good offense together?
They need time to figure it out.
The difference between AAA and Major league pitching is substantial. Harris and Hinch want to develop and trial by fire these hitters in the majors. They want to win, but they also need to know if these guys can adjust/adapt, and figure it out. It's not going to be linear development. And the replacements in Toledo either aren't ready or aren't part of any long term plan.
A 1-0 win gets us nowhere aside from the 'standings.' They have to make some hard choices about this lineup. If we are rolling with the development plan then this is going to happen.
Trying to develop half your roster in the majors is joyless at times. The hitting thing seems to be institutional at this point. The defensive lapses are unacceptable.
If Kelly has to go on the IL, the already bad catching situation gets much worse. Maybe rogers couldn’t repeat 2023, but I was expecting more. You are already carrying 3-4 empty lineup spots.
I wish we had an organization that really cared about winning more games this year. But they don’t have many offensive levers to pull. If these guys can’t hit, you are essentially shuffling deck chairs.
Tork was a 1-1 pick who could turn it around at anytime. Hiura is a 4-A player who will hit 3 home runs in the first week and then crater into what he is. How do you think Scott Harris, the captain of lower expectations and development, is going to handle it?
