  1. But they are already losing Grimes for nothing, actually they lost him for a negative asset. I look at it this way. Keeping Grimes was a no risk, modest reward situation. The potential reward is that he looks more like the version of 2-3 years ago and the Pistons have a nice young 3&D player to put into the rotation and you give him a nice little contract at the end of the season because all you have is cap space. On the other hand, if he continues to struggle shooting and/or is damaged goods unable to get healthy then you let him go for nothing just like they did today. There's no downside to seeing it though with him but there is some potential upside. In terms of roster clutter, I'm assuming that some of that will be fleshed out anyway with the new guy wanting his players inserted into the lineup and a guy like Klintman is likely nowhere near an NBA lineup next season so I don't think there would have been a problem fitting in Grimes for an evaluation year. Langdon moved an asset for a contract dump, it's kind of crazy when you think about it.
  2. Giving up Grimes in this deal makes zero sense. I mean, the comparable was lined right up for Langdon. Three 2nds to take on Reggie Jackson who made less than half of what Hardaway is making. Should have been simple. This reeks of Weaver dumping Bruce Brown simply because he was from the old regime.
  3. I don't get it. Are you agreeing with me lol
  4. Biden is a lot older than Reagan was. I'm too young to remember much about Regan's mannerisms but in the here and now you can see how much Biden has declined the last 4 years and at his age the decline usually accelerates. It's hard to watch every time he speaks. In this critical time in our country, it's not very reassuring that our choices for commander in chief is either an old man who is declining rapidly or an old man who is a blabbering, narcissistic loon. Scary times
  5. I usually don't comment on politics but I find it amazing that we can't find better candidates in a country of over 330m than two very old guys one of whom can't answer a simple question directly because he's too busy filibustering and mud slinging the other guy and the other whom can't even form a coherent enough sentence to answer a question directly. Not to mention all the "you're the worst, no YOU'RE the worst" stuff without coming up with actual solutions for how they plan on improving on the failed regime of his opponent. Scary and especially in Biden's case, his quick decline is very concerning already so how is he going to handle 4 more years?
  6. I don't get the trade for Minnesota (like a worse version of the Plumlee trade) but...we'll take it. At least with 37, it's a little something to watch for.
  7. I see this sentiment a lot online but the Pistons obviously felt like he wouldn't be there at 9 and/or they were getting weak offers from Memphis. Charlotte was a prime trade down partner too and didn't pull the trigger so that's telling.
  8. I don't get the Holland pick but this draft blows chunks, even the top 2 picks have major question marks, so I don't feel like the Pistons missed out on anybody. I was expecting Buzelis and got Holland, meh whatever. The real work begins starting with free agency anyway.
  9. Nice thoughts Betrayer and a whole lot of sin-eating haha but I like the idea. I'll keep mine fairly simple. I'm trading down in this draft with hopeful future draft assets included assuming that Clingan is the guy teams are coveting. I wouldn't trade Ivey or Duren yet, I'd like to see them under a new (hopefully competent) coach before shipping them out plus I'm not sure how much value either one has currently. Don't trade Cade under any circumstance. It's stupid to even suggest. Add two way vets, no more of the Bogeys and Burks of the world who have no idea about the defensive end. I'd also target players that might be due for a breakout or on an upward trend, Naji Marshall although he's not that young anymore. Tyus Jones although not that young either. More guys like Fontecchio who aren't that expensive to acquire but have potential to flourish with more opportunity, Grimes was also a good gamble.
  10. Yeah, I mainly meant Harper who was the best player in that game. Bailey didn't shoot well but I really liked his overall game. I could see some guys really threatening Flagg for the top spot, I don't see him as the lock to go there that some seem to think he is (Flagg sweepstakes etc.) hence which is why I brought up Wemby who was the clear cut #1.
  11. I always laugh at these people talking about "entering a draft sweepstakes" as if tanking is beneficial anymore. Yeah you get the best odds by a slight bit but as well know all too well, that doesn't mean jack. Also, I wasn't impressed by Flagg in that one showcase game I saw of him as opposed to Wemby who immediately looked like a stud. I was more impressed by the future Rutgers duo but....small sample size and all.
  12. I get that but how is the roster getting sorted out? They have Hart, DiVincenzo, OG, Bridges, Randle at the 2-4 all clear starting level players. A good problem to have I suppose but that seems like a lot of chefs in the kitchen.
  13. I like Bridges but that's quite a haul of unprotected 1sts for him. Regardless, it's a good idea for the Knicks to go all in, I wonder how this effects OG's status there.
  14. If PG13 wants to come here, you take that and run. Grant I'm back and forth on. He has the skillset the Pistons need and I liked the way he swallowed his ego and allowed this to be Cade's team after Cade was drafted but that's a big contract for an aging player. I would have liked this idea if Grant was 2-3 years younger but he might be too old now. If we are to take anything away from Langdon's press conference, I don't think we'll see any big adds this offseason. Could see more Burks type moves taking on draft capital for an overpaid player that you can plug into the lineup. Hopefully somebody more impactful than Burks but it seems like the plan isn't too different than Weaver's, continue building around this core with players that won't break the back to acquire or sign.
  15. That's my thinking as well. They probably wouldn't get much in a trade down especially if it's in the top 10 but I'd taking any decent asset in addition to the top 10 pick and take my chances with one of the other prospects and teams seem to be hot for Clingan so it's possible. Clingan, Buzelis, Holland, Castle... not much at all to get excited about. I probably like Castle the most in that group and even he likely won't be much of an NBA scorer.
  16. Bickerstaff turned them around before they acquired the star player ftr. Either way, I think you'd agree that this team isn't going anywhere until the roster is fixed. As awful as Monty was, and he was truly awful, a coach still needs players to work with so Langdon has his work cut out for him regardless of who the new coach is.
  17. Yes, I like Atkinson but we're basing it on one year of success. Patricia was part of the best front office and coaching staff in the league. "Heat Culture" could very well be the new "Patriot Way" for all we know. This is what I'm saying, there's risk with every coach but I don't know why Bickerstaff's successful run with the Cavs makes him a disaster while Atkinson and Quinn are the right choices. You're taking a leap of faith with any of these guys. Outside of a few coaches, who knows who is really good or not.
  18. They had one of the biggest turnarounds in the NBA under Bickerstaff, how is that not molding a team together? As I said before, no superstars to carry them either so you can't say... well, he was carried by Luka, Jokic, Embiid etc. I'm not sure how Mitchell being poor on D is Bickerstaff's fault, he was like that under every coach. How did he misuse Mobley? Which players weren't held accountable? I see every fanbase say this about their coach but I rarely see concrete examples given. With Monty, we had real examples of his failures. Starting Hayes for as long as he did. the regressions of Duren, Ivey, Ausar as the season wore on, failing to stagger the starters putting in the entire bench unit only to watch them get destroyed yet still keep them in etc. As I said before, Bickerstaff wouldn't be my top choice and I'm sure he has some flaws like every coach does but I'm having a hard time seeing a guy that turned a 19 win team into a 44 win team in 2 seasons as a disaster. Everybody loves Atkinson and Quinn but what do they have over Bickerstaff?
  19. The Pistons added talent too but got worse every year. Not all talent is built the same but you still have to mold the talent to fit together, it's not like they had any superstars to carry the team/coach. He inherited a 19 win team and win 44 two seasons later so he must have done something right. I thought the whole locker room issue was Altman confronting Bickerstaff about some disagreement (don't remember what). I didn't hear about any player dissention. In any event, I wouldn't be over the moon about his hiring but I don't see anything on his resume that would scream "disaster". Of all the available options, he's won more than all of them.
  20. Is he? Why? He completely turned that team around and that was before the Mitchell trade. His firing didn't seem to performance related, it seemed to be because Altman got in a confrontation with him that Altman started if the rumors are to be believed. I thought Cleveland did well against Boston considering how shorthanded they were.
  21. Because we watched the games and Monty was such a disaster that it's almost like he sabotaged the team on purpose out of spite for Gores dragging him out of temporary retirement, that's how bad his coaching was. You can tell right off the bat at his opening presser that the guy had little interest in the job and even admitted that he took it because the money was too good to turn down. I wish him well going forward and I feel for him for what he's gone through with losing his wife but.....good riddance, give me a coach that cares about the team and city and wants to be here. With that said, the roster needs a ton of work as well so it's not only a coaching issue but there was a big coaching issue last season.
  22. Thank God, Monty was the worst thing to ever happen to the Pistons. He had no interest in being here and coached like it. I gotta say about Gores, he might make the wrong personnel decisions time after time but the guy does what it takes with his resources to try to win at least. There are plenty of owners that wouldn't have footed the bill to rid of this coach but Gores did so credit to him for that. Now lets try to get it right this time, Kenny Atkinson would be my choice.
  23. So Langdon is president and GM? Sometimes presidents hire GMs so I assumed that was the case here since I don't see GM in his title.
  24. So are they hiring a GM before, ya know, the draft? I know they hired Blackstone as Langdon's assistant I guess? and the shooting coach but still no news on GM and coach and is now about a week away. Not off to a good start if you ask me.
  25. The draft sucks, it's as simple as that. I don't recall a draft when there was not one prospect you can point to and say that they'd be a surefire top 5 pick in previous drafts. Just look at last years' draft for instance. Is Sarr a better prospect than the Thompson twins? I don't know, maybe, but I can't say for sure that Sarr is better going into the draft. There's going to be good players coming out of this draft and maybe a franchise player or two because...who knows... but none of these guys outside of 23 year old Knecht and little guards Sheppard and Dillingham did much to raise their profile in their draft year. All the previously hyped guys either flatlined or regressed from their high school/international hype.
