Jamo's only real football issues has been some drops in practice and taking a while to get on the same page with the QB. Last season was a complete write off, they hardly even ran any plays for him because he just wasn't ready due to the injury and lack of practice time. The suspension is completely bogus, the NFL has suspended actual criminal activity for less games. It wasn't even like he bet on NFL games, the NFL caught him on a technicality. Sure not the smartest move on his part but a fart in the wind really. I'm not here to tell you that there isn't any reason to be concerned but this is far from bust territory currently. There just isn't much of a sample size, on the field, that he doesn't have what it takes as opposed to Okudah who had a much larger sample size of not being able to cut it. The injuries are a bit of a concern though but at least he wasn't going to be playing the games anyway so he should be good to go once the ridiculous suspension is over.

Meh, I don't see the comparison. Okudah was actually not good on the field in addition to the injuries, Jamo hasn't played one NFL game relatively healthy quite yet (he wasn't last year) and hasn't even had a full TC and preseason yet. This season was always going to be his true rookie season. I get the skepticism, it's impossible not to have some, but it's way too early to even consider him a write off.

Great find. Schrager is one of the hidden gems of football media.

Not saying he was great by any means but maybe I'm in the minority of thinking that he wasn't that bad. The 1st INT he was hit as he threw it so can't really blame him for that, the 2nd INT was an awful read so he wears the goat horns for that but his stats would have looked a lot different if Jamo didn't drop that dime of a long pass, if Laporta didn't drop the 4th down pass and if Cota didn't drop that other long pass that hit him right in the hands. The stat line was poor but there's also context needed.

Was there ever a doubt? He's an elite punt returner and their #3 receiver, not to mention one of the team leaders. Good player, good deal.
-
He was injured in December or was it late November? ACL injuries usually take a year to recover from and longer to recover from fully (see Jamo as an example who played late in the year but wasn't close to 100%)) so this year was always going to be a redshirt season. I get the argument that they could have drafted a guy that could be a starter or at least a rotational player in the 3rd but Holmes doesn't care about need, he cares about drafting good players and getting Hooker at that spot was good player value and a good insurance policy at the most important position in sports in case of Goff injury/ineffectiveness. I doubt they drafted him with replacing Goff in mind but I think they wanted to upgrade the QB room with a developmental guy that has starter potential.
-
To be a long term backup solution and a potential starter if Goff falters. You didn't think he was playing this year, did you? His injury only occurred 8 months ago.
-
Well....duh if those things happen. I guess I should clarify, didn't think I had to but here we are. If HEALTHY, neither guy will get cut. Ok, maybe not zero chance, lets say .00001% chance. IF either gets arrested or found guilty of gambling then, sure, it'll be 100% chance of getting cut.
-
There's zero chance that Jones or Reynolds get cut especially with Jamo out, I say that with full confidence. I'll say Iffy. Some might not be surprised but he was a fairly high pick two years ago with all the traits you'd want in a player but he's lost in a numbers game with a much improved secondary so....him.

It's hard not to have faith in these guys. Watch the SI interview that Holmes, Campbell and Goff did, complete buy in from those guys and speaking with confidence. It might not work out in the end because nothing is guaranteed but these guys sure do have the right mindset. Now it's time to get some playoff wins, talk time is over.

Cade looks good and those are no slouches that he's playing against. Regardless, it's just nice to see him out there competing and looking healthy. He's the key to everything.
-
I don't see any way he gets less than Daniel Jones.

I actually thought Kennedy showed quite well in his short stint with the Lions when the injuries piled up, he made some big catches to my recollection. This is an indication of improving talent level forcing out useful players. I wouldn't be shocked if he made his way back to the Lions practice squad if he makes it through waivers.
-
Yes, extend him sooner than later. If Lions brass truly believes in him, they should do it as soon as possible before the QB market inflates more and before the team becomes too good. He probably comes in at more than $40m/yr considering the Jones contract but we're talking $50m if he and the Lions have another successful season and they wait to extend him. Next offseason is a big one. St. Brown and Sewell will be extension eligible (do those right away), they'll need to make a decision on Goff's extension with free agency looming, Jonah Jackson decision (I'm leaning towards not extending him) and Gardner-Johnson and Moseley will be free agents. This is when the REAL work begins for Holmes.
-
Just got the Gardner-Johnson news. Seems like a season ender based on the reports (couldn't put pressure on leg, carted off, non-contract injury). They have depth at the position but this is a big blow. You're up Brian Branch.

I was joking my friend. That's a line from Dumb and Dumber, I probably should have clarified. And yes, there's a lot of assholes in NYC and I'm not joking. Not as many as L.A. though, talk about overrated cities in terms of living quality unless you're rich but I digress.

The French are assholes. Sorry @buddha

Yeah, you need to make the most of your draft picks which Weaver struck out with in his first draft although I'd say that Stewart is fine for a #16 pick while Presti has been a drafting savant for the most part. With that said, he had a Paul George to dangle for a major return just as Orlando had with Vucevic and Gordon, Houston with Harden, San Antonio with Murray, Utah with Mitchell and Gobert etc. Then again, you need to draft and develop well to turn these guys into assets but still... Weaver was a victim of the previous regimes failures, speak of Mitchell for example.
-
This is the main reason why teams like OKC and Orlando are ahead of the Pistons. These guys had star players to dangle as assets while Weaver was handed a broken Blake Griffin that he had to wait a year to buy out. Must have been nice for Presti and Orlando GM not to mention Houston and San Antonio who sold off their stars for a bundle of futures. Weaver turned Grant into Duren which is the extent of his chest of real assets.

I don't even think he was "bad" in the other games, seemed to do a lot of good things out there from what I saw, it was just a matter of the shot not falling.

I don't see it, Ausar is a far better playmaker than Allen was. Even if his 3 pointer never comes around, he has a higher floor than Allen because he has creation skills. I wouldn't say "broke" necessarily but he certainly doesn't have a smooth stroke and the shot is pretty flat so I'm also skeptical that he ever becomes an above average 3 point shooter.

Ausar has everything in the toolkit outside of the 3 pointer, sort of like a Herb Jones type which is a very valuable player, a better playmaking Herb Jones. If he develops a 3 point shot, he has All Star potential.

Whether Reid would start with the Pistons or not is irrelevant in contract negotiations. The reality is that Minny is paying him to come off the bench while the Pistons are paying Stewart to start, for now. Because Stewart has elevated minutes, he has pretty much double the rebounds so I'm sure that also plays a role as well. Regardless, as we agree on, the difference between the contracts is negligible really especially keeping in mind that the Stewart contract has a 4th year team option so it's essentially a 3 year $45m contract when you take out the bonus structure.
-
Reid is a bench player for the Wolves while Stew is the starter here for better or worse, different roles, and the AAV is fairly equal (14 v. 16m), plus Stewart's contract kicks in a year later when the cap will be higher. It's a fair deal, nothing to celebrate but nothing to groan about either IMO.
-
$43m for FVV!!!! I was dismayed at the Harris trade at first and still think the Pistons should have squeezed more value out of that contract but it's a good day for the Pistons because they didn't tie themselves to any ridiculous contract for players that aren't high impact guys.
