Week Four: Detroit Lions (2-1) @ Green Bay Packers (2-1)
NYLion replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
It's funny how that works. I've known a few posters on other boards that were extreme fanboys like TP and their persona was a lot different away from the message board so I'm sure that applies to TP too but man is it a chore to read his GDT posts haha and, make no mistake, his snap reactions are next NEXT level compared to the rest of the world. Me personally? Last night was one of the most enjoyable experiences I ever had as a Lions fan even through the wobbles in the second half. The only thing that was missing was sharing this with a bunch of other Lions fans in person which is kind of hard to do here in NY, most of my buddies are Giants saps. -

Just reading through the thread now.... so the Lions win 34-20, in Lambeau field, and all I see is TP complaining about Lions coaches lol. My god man, if you can't enjoy a double digit win in Lambeau then what's the point of being a fan. -

I did too. I thought for sure it was an ACL the way he went down. Major relief when he came back from the locker room and they were taping up his ankle on the sidelines. The defense had a noticeable dip when he wasn't out there -

This team is for real folks. Get used to it. Also, and I don't want to jinx it but they have Carolina, Tampa and Vegas in 3 of the next 4 games with a bye mixed in to get some guys back plus Jamo just in time for Baltimore so this team could go on a serious run and create some real separation in the division and I highly doubt that a Dan Campbell led team will take any opponent lightly so it's hard not to feel good about where this is headed. -

The 27-3 score actually flatters the Packers believe it or not. -

Oh thank god. It would be a real grind to pull this one out without those two, it will be either way but especially so without those key guys in the trenches. -

Montgomery is a big loss against a good defense on the road, arguably as big as Decker. You can see how much it hurt them immediately against Seattle and most of the Falcons game. The Lions have no bell cow, grind the tough yards RB now. The offense is more than likely to struggle big time tonight without these two in. -
He almost had 200 yards rushing in the last game alone. Great offensive line as well as weak opposition and all but he's absolutely killing it right now. He's not keeping up this pace but he's an added big weapon that was donated to one of the Lions biggest competitors. Was a future 4th as opposed to a slightly less return elsewhere really worth it? I can't imagine that Philly was the only bidder.

Less valuable position of course but LaPorta has been just as elite as Carter through 3 games, he's setting records.Less valuable position of course but LaPorta has been just as elite as Carter through 3 games, he's setting records. Don't get me wrong, I was driving the Carter Train from the very beginning but I'm more than fine with the guys the Lions got. We'll see if Carter can keep his head on straight because that was always the biggest question with him, not his ability to dominate on the field. Also, Swift never started a season like this. He's the 2nd leading rusher in the entire league although, yes, only a 2 game sample size. Maybe he'll get injured like he usually does but if he stays healthy, the Lions did one of the teams in their way a big favor.

Lions fans are conditioned to be miserable, 60+ years of experience of getting let down through different generations does that to ya. Hell, there were several posters here conceding a loss to the juggernaut Falcons based on an overtime loss to a good team the prior week? I think it'll take a while for SOL to be expunged completely from Lions fans psyche. Personally, I'm putting SOL behind me. I've been fooled before, I bought in when they hired Mariucci (thought he was the next great coach - yikes) and in 2014 and got burned before but something about this regime is different so I'm fully bought in and am fully vulnerable to getting kicked in the nuts again if this next great hope fails.

I'm quite happy with Gibbs+LaPorta but it's painful to see how dominant Carter is. Time will tell though, knuckleheads always find a way to knucklehead and by all accounts he's a supreme knucklehead so we'll see... On another note, Swift is 2nd in league rushing. I'm fine with the trade and getting a 4th is ok value for a Swift rental but why Holmes had to trade him to Philly is beyond me. He basically giftwrapped Carter+Swift for one of the Lions main competitors.

In fairness to Love, he's been missing his best weapons most of the season (Jones and Watson) and he does have a 7-1 TD-Int ratio. Not saying that he's a future HoF but I think he's pretty good. This game will be a big challenge especially with the Packers skill guys healthy now although the Lions are getting healthier too thank god. -

Well, Goff has proven to be good without Johnson while Johnson hasn't proved to be good without Goff so not sure why you have more faith in Johnson than Goff. I think some of you are going to be pissed (without justification) when Goff gets the big extension. -

Of course the combo works well together but Goff isn't all of a sudden going to crumble when Ben leaves unless Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, Sewell, Decker, Ragnow, Jackson, Amon Ra etc. are leaving with him. Also, it's not like Goff has this uber-talented cast either. He's had Amon Ra along with a bunch of cast-offs the last few years and now this year with an upgraded RB room, LaPorta added in and hopefully a dynamic Jamo later this season but lacking real weapons in the interim. He hasn't had a fully healthy offensive line since 2 years ago either, they played together 1+ games which was the opener this year and part of the Seattle game so it's not like he's had a super supporting cast. Also, just to add, he had a great 2nd half of his 1st season here once Checkdown Lynn was turfed so it's more like a 1/2 a bad season and an excellent season and a half afterwards. -

Goff was a 2 time Pro Bowler and SB participant without Ben Johnson. This idea that he's a product of Ben Johnson is laughable. First he was a product of Cal's air-raid system then he was a product of McVay and now he's a product of Johnson? Maybe just maybe Goff is quite simply....a good QB. How exactly do they go about upgrading on Goff if they don't want to pay him? Outside of Stafford, they haven't had a QB as good as Goff in like 6 decades. Not so easy to find them. -

I don't think Hooker is even in the conversation tbh unless Goff goes down with injury and Hooker sets the world on fire. That's the only way I see Hooker getting games unless Goff has an unforeseen meltdown. Goff is their guy and he should be. Ever since Lynn was canned and the playbook opened up, Goff has 45 TDs and 11 INTs over the last season and a half and he's now leading a winning team going 10-3 in his last 13. I think it's getting to the point where it's a matter of "when" on the extension not "if" so IMO, do it sooner than later. He seems like a safe bet to continue playing well in THIS offense with the way the team is built around him so just get him locked up now. 4 years $180M with $95M guaranteed or something in that ballpark. That's roughly a $14M aav increase from his current contract which considering cap inflation is manageable. -

The longer you wait, the more expensive he gets unless he falls apart. There's merit to getting it done sooner than later unless the staff doesn't truly believe in him. -

Same here. He had some wobbly moments yesterday in the 3rd, behind a patchwork offensive line mind you, but he's been performing like an elite QB for the better part of a year and a half outside of two games really Dallas and New England last year when they were ravaged by injuries. He has complete command of this offense and I just don't see anybody out there who can come in and be an upgrade on him in THIS offense. I'd extend him right now before he becomes even more expensive. -

If I was Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, I would seriously consider tanking my draft value right now or going back to college next year. Getting drafted by Chicago is auto-career suicide for any QB. -

He's a star, as well as LaPorta. That Brad Holmes guy sure knows how to draft. Also, Jamhyr was better than Bijan today behind a patchwork offensive line. #BradHolmesdraftsavant -

Total domination. I hope some of you that jumped off the bandwagon didn't hurt your ankles. It kind of sucks that there's only a 4 day break until the Green Bay game with all the injuries, really need Decker back especially, but....next man up. This regime just feels different. -

It's football, injuries tend to happen. Outside of Vaitai, the starting offensive line pretty much played every game last season. Decker is missing his 2nd game, your definition of "forever" is a lot different than mine. -

lol, I see this place has transformed into SOL mode. I sure hope the team isn't as defeatist as the fans are.
