  1. Lions fans are conditioned to be miserable, 60+ years of experience of getting let down through different generations does that to ya. Hell, there were several posters here conceding a loss to the juggernaut Falcons based on an overtime loss to a good team the prior week? I think it'll take a while for SOL to be expunged completely from Lions fans psyche. Personally, I'm putting SOL behind me. I've been fooled before, I bought in when they hired Mariucci (thought he was the next great coach - yikes) and in 2014 and got burned before but something about this regime is different so I'm fully bought in and am fully vulnerable to getting kicked in the nuts again if this next great hope fails.
  2. I'm quite happy with Gibbs+LaPorta but it's painful to see how dominant Carter is. Time will tell though, knuckleheads always find a way to knucklehead and by all accounts he's a supreme knucklehead so we'll see... On another note, Swift is 2nd in league rushing. I'm fine with the trade and getting a 4th is ok value for a Swift rental but why Holmes had to trade him to Philly is beyond me. He basically giftwrapped Carter+Swift for one of the Lions main competitors.
  3. In fairness to Love, he's been missing his best weapons most of the season (Jones and Watson) and he does have a 7-1 TD-Int ratio. Not saying that he's a future HoF but I think he's pretty good. This game will be a big challenge especially with the Packers skill guys healthy now although the Lions are getting healthier too thank god.
  4. Well, Goff has proven to be good without Johnson while Johnson hasn't proved to be good without Goff so not sure why you have more faith in Johnson than Goff. I think some of you are going to be pissed (without justification) when Goff gets the big extension.
  5. Of course the combo works well together but Goff isn't all of a sudden going to crumble when Ben leaves unless Brad Holmes, Dan Campbell, Sewell, Decker, Ragnow, Jackson, Amon Ra etc. are leaving with him. Also, it's not like Goff has this uber-talented cast either. He's had Amon Ra along with a bunch of cast-offs the last few years and now this year with an upgraded RB room, LaPorta added in and hopefully a dynamic Jamo later this season but lacking real weapons in the interim. He hasn't had a fully healthy offensive line since 2 years ago either, they played together 1+ games which was the opener this year and part of the Seattle game so it's not like he's had a super supporting cast. Also, just to add, he had a great 2nd half of his 1st season here once Checkdown Lynn was turfed so it's more like a 1/2 a bad season and an excellent season and a half afterwards.
  6. Goff was a 2 time Pro Bowler and SB participant without Ben Johnson. This idea that he's a product of Ben Johnson is laughable. First he was a product of Cal's air-raid system then he was a product of McVay and now he's a product of Johnson? Maybe just maybe Goff is quite simply....a good QB. How exactly do they go about upgrading on Goff if they don't want to pay him? Outside of Stafford, they haven't had a QB as good as Goff in like 6 decades. Not so easy to find them.
  7. I don't think Hooker is even in the conversation tbh unless Goff goes down with injury and Hooker sets the world on fire. That's the only way I see Hooker getting games unless Goff has an unforeseen meltdown. Goff is their guy and he should be. Ever since Lynn was canned and the playbook opened up, Goff has 45 TDs and 11 INTs over the last season and a half and he's now leading a winning team going 10-3 in his last 13. I think it's getting to the point where it's a matter of "when" on the extension not "if" so IMO, do it sooner than later. He seems like a safe bet to continue playing well in THIS offense with the way the team is built around him so just get him locked up now. 4 years $180M with $95M guaranteed or something in that ballpark. That's roughly a $14M aav increase from his current contract which considering cap inflation is manageable.
  8. The longer you wait, the more expensive he gets unless he falls apart. There's merit to getting it done sooner than later unless the staff doesn't truly believe in him.
  9. Same here. He had some wobbly moments yesterday in the 3rd, behind a patchwork offensive line mind you, but he's been performing like an elite QB for the better part of a year and a half outside of two games really Dallas and New England last year when they were ravaged by injuries. He has complete command of this offense and I just don't see anybody out there who can come in and be an upgrade on him in THIS offense. I'd extend him right now before he becomes even more expensive.
  10. If I was Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, I would seriously consider tanking my draft value right now or going back to college next year. Getting drafted by Chicago is auto-career suicide for any QB.
  11. He's a star, as well as LaPorta. That Brad Holmes guy sure knows how to draft. Also, Jamhyr was better than Bijan today behind a patchwork offensive line. #BradHolmesdraftsavant
  12. Total domination. I hope some of you that jumped off the bandwagon didn't hurt your ankles. It kind of sucks that there's only a 4 day break until the Green Bay game with all the injuries, really need Decker back especially, but....next man up. This regime just feels different.
  13. It's football, injuries tend to happen. Outside of Vaitai, the starting offensive line pretty much played every game last season. Decker is missing his 2nd game, your definition of "forever" is a lot different than mine.
  14. lol, I see this place has transformed into SOL mode. I sure hope the team isn't as defeatist as the fans are.
  15. The crying of SOL if they lose to Atlanta would be an overreaction but if the Lions are the team they've been built up to be, you can't lose a game like this at home. Going 0-2 at home to start would be unacceptable really. 1-2 wouldn't be the end of the world and I wouldn't call this a "must win" but the Lions really need to and should win this game even with all the injuries. It's time to raise the bar.
  16. Campbell was playing for the tie which was especially odd because he was unnecessarily aggressive on multiple occasions during the game and should have been more aggressive on the final possession. I didn't understand it at all at the time especially with the way the Lions offense was moving the ball. I didn't have a problem with him kicking the FG on 4th down, it was more of the conservative playcalling and clock bleeding earlier in the possession that I didn't get.
  17. The run defense is improved, the pass defense is as porous as it's ever been. They got extremely lucky against the Chiefs last week because the stats don't tell the story of that game at all because the receivers couldn't make basic catches and even the Branch INT was an easy catch that went off the receivers hands straight into Branch's. The defense improved last year partly because of the easier second half schedule. They faced Philly, Seattle, Miami, Minnesota and Dallas in the first half. The second half of the schedule was a steady dose of NFC North opponents that struggled offensively in Chicago and Green Bay and the NY teams that were below average offensively, Carolina was a weak offense but destroyed the Lions. The one legit offense in Minnesota tore them up. They did play well against Buffalo, but in general I think the schedule had more to do with the improvement than scheme. If you watch the defense closely, you see guys moving around looking confused, guys out of position a lot and teams exploiting their weaknesses constantly with little to no adjustments (why Glenn refused to blitz in this game outside of a few instances is beyond me). Glenn is a problem and I just hope he figures it out before it sinks the team. Good thing is that the offense looks like they can score on anybody and hopefully that continues because they'll need to to overcome this defense.
  18. Knocked back to reality a bit, I think Seattle's obituary was way too prematurely written after their loss last week and the Lions were crowned way too prematurely after their very fortunate (lets be honest) win last week against the SB champs. It's too early to really know anything. It was two toss up games against two good teams so I think 1-1 is fair marks for where they should be right now and I think most of us would have taken it. I do think Montgomery being out for any length of time is a major blow and they need Amon Ra to be healthy, those were my two big takeaways from this game. I also don't trust a Glenn led defense one bit going forward so the offense will have to be great every week if they want to win games.
  19. They were awful last week against a depleted KC lineup as well but they dropped a lot of passes to put lipstick on that pig.
  20. Are the Lions really more talented? The Seahawks have one of the more talented teams in the league especially at the skill positions. The Lions did get badly outcoached though, that much was obvious.
  21. That could prove to be a fatal mistake by Holmes (Carter looks dominant) as well as the Jamo trade up although I still have faith in Jamo. The two 2nd round D-linemen are walking band aids as well (Levi and Paschal).
  22. Hard to blame Goff when he played a great game otherwise. The biggest mistake of the game was Campbell going for it in his own territory when up in the game. I know the defense is awful but you there's a time and place to be aggressive and that wasn't it.
  23. Yes please. Upgraded personnel, same garbage scheme. The guy was rushing 4 most of the game with a line that was getting nothing done and refused to adjust. Also, had the DBs playing WAY off on the receivers all game. The guy is clueless, stubborn to a fault.
  24. Injuries, self inflicted mistakes, turnovers at inopportune times, poor coaching, absolute trailer trash defense. S O L
  25. Livers is a bench player at best and could be out of the league in a few years, I'm not sure why some are enamored with him. I thought he might take a step last season especially with the lineup being easy to crack and I actually think he regressed a bit. Harris I might give you but he's even slower than Bogey and has defense has cratered hugely over the last few years due to the injuries taking a toll. Bogey also supplies more versatile scoring. I'm not adverse to trading him at some point but to start the season, I think they need him if they want to win games. As far as Ivey is concerned, I was happy with the pick because of his talent but I was always concerned with the fit. Ivey shot better than Mathurin last year but Mathurin has historically been the better shooter. I know we're comparing college and pros but Ivey's shot just screams inconsistency over the course of his career with that high floating shot. Regardless, I'm looking at it from purely a fit perspective. I want Cade to be the lead dog, the lead ballhandler so I don't see Ivey as a great fit in a secondary ballhandling role playing off of a primary ballhandler. In fact, Ivey thrived last season when he took over primary ballhandling which won't be his role here going forward unless Cade continues to get injured. I'm just not sure how he'll handle being a secondary guy not only in terms of playstyle but mentally, I could see him getting pouty. Mathurin and Sharpe are more natural shooting guards, off ball guards, so I see better fits with them alongside Cade and Ausar long term. I'd love to be wrong but I think it could get messy with Cade and Ivey on the court at the same time.
