  1. Injuries, self inflicted mistakes, turnovers at inopportune times, poor coaching, absolute trailer trash defense. S O L
  2. Livers is a bench player at best and could be out of the league in a few years, I'm not sure why some are enamored with him. I thought he might take a step last season especially with the lineup being easy to crack and I actually think he regressed a bit. Harris I might give you but he's even slower than Bogey and has defense has cratered hugely over the last few years due to the injuries taking a toll. Bogey also supplies more versatile scoring. I'm not adverse to trading him at some point but to start the season, I think they need him if they want to win games. As far as Ivey is concerned, I was happy with the pick because of his talent but I was always concerned with the fit. Ivey shot better than Mathurin last year but Mathurin has historically been the better shooter. I know we're comparing college and pros but Ivey's shot just screams inconsistency over the course of his career with that high floating shot. Regardless, I'm looking at it from purely a fit perspective. I want Cade to be the lead dog, the lead ballhandler so I don't see Ivey as a great fit in a secondary ballhandling role playing off of a primary ballhandler. In fact, Ivey thrived last season when he took over primary ballhandling which won't be his role here going forward unless Cade continues to get injured. I'm just not sure how he'll handle being a secondary guy not only in terms of playstyle but mentally, I could see him getting pouty. Mathurin and Sharpe are more natural shooting guards, off ball guards, so I see better fits with them alongside Cade and Ausar long term. I'd love to be wrong but I think it could get messy with Cade and Ivey on the court at the same time.
  3. You have to have shooting in the NBA nowadays. If Bogey is gone and Ausar is starting, who can shoot out of Cade, Ivey, Ausar, Stewart and Duren? I think Cade out of all of them has the ability/shooting stroke to become an above average shooter but until he does, it's a question. With that lineup, teams will just pack the paint and force Piston misses. At least for now, until some of the young guys grow into the role, they need Bogey in the starting lineup if they want to have a more balanced lineup. Granted, he gives away a lot defensively but scoring is king in the NBA and he does it better than anybody on the Pistons outside of maybe Cade. All of this is why I questioned the Ivey fit. Ivey obviously is a great talent and you should almost always take talent over fit but I wonder how Mathurin or Sharpe would have fit that bring more of an off ball, shooting presence that I think fits much better with Cade and Ausar for that matter. Ivey just seems like a square peg in a round hole in this lineup.
  4. Garroppolo was their starter and Purdy was complete dumb luck but, still, he's a draft pick so there's always a chance of a young guy showing out. I can't imagine that retread backups are worth much of anything so that's why I'd take a decent draft pick for Bridgewater if offered. I see some value in having a quality backup QB although I feel it's becoming less and less important as QBs are being protected more and more every year and we're seeing less injuries as a result Rodgers notwithstanding but I don't think backup QB is critical to any team success. It's a nice insurance plan as a temporary solution nothing more unless the backup is a developmental guy with upside then you hold on to that guy until you see what you got like Hooker for instance. I'm not trading him for a 5th or even a 3rd. There's always the chance with Hooker that you can get a Brady or to an obviously much lesser scale Purdy out of it where your guy goes down and the backup comes in and takes over as THE guy. That's not happening with Bridgewater, you'll get a game manager for a game or two with him at best.
  5. Not like it would happen but if the Jets offer a 5th I take it and run. The Lions are hooped if Goff goes down for a lengthy period of time anyway and Bridgewater is only a couple of month stopgap until Hooker is ready anyway so I'll take the magic bean if the Jets come calling. @4hzglory you wouldn't take a 3rd for Teddy? I'd take that and run away laughing maniacally. I think some of you value backup QB a lot more than I do. Outside of the one off in Nick Foles, I can't think of any situation where a backup saved the season for a contender. Well, Bridgewater did hold it down for the Saints several years back but they also had a tremendous supporting cast not too different than what the Lions are building. Sure it's nice insurance to have but if I get something that could potentially be a long term solution in return for Bridgewater, I'm taking it. Go sign Wentz or somebody to replace him, there are proven options out there. This is why I can't see the Jets giving anything of value for Bridgewater, they could sign a similar level guy off the free agent market or just throw all the $$$ at Brady to see if he bites.
  6. I don't see how it's a trap game. It's their home opener and it's not like they're playing a real contender in Week 3. Maybe they get a little full of themselves after beating KC and take Seattle lightly because they lost last week but I don't think that'll be an issue with this group.
  7. But if he kicked the FG instead of going for it, the Bills would have had time to win the game instead of just tying it. Of course Allen could have botched it like he did all night but they moved the ball into FG position with relative ease and only got stopped by the clock. With another minute and a half to play with, they could have very well won the game on that drive.
  8. New York baseball and New Jersey football. It's like something out of a horror movie for those fans.
  9. I was amazed at how much some of the media and their snub fans fellated the Bears this offseason. I guess they assumed that Fields would all of a sudden turn into Hurts but the reality is that he's a really good running back disguised as a QB. On other other hand, Love looks like a good one because... of course he's a Packers QB so it's written in the stars that he'll be good. You're right about Carter btw. I know about the off the field stuff and I like Gibbs+Laporta a lot but I still wish they just stood pat and took Carter, he's a legit gamewrecker if he keeps his head on straight which is, of course, still a big question mark.
  10. On Hutch in particular, he was getting mugged all night.
  11. Boys BOYS!!! This is amazing. What a win. Some things to clean up and the Chiefs were missing their two key guys (whatever to that though) but they just beat Patrick Mahomes in Arrowhead. This is much bigger than just 1-0. Ford Field is going to be a zoo next week and I'm here for all of it. BNL!!!
  12. On the other hand, it's boiling eggs on sidewalk weather in New York. 110 Heat Index, just came in from outside as a sweaty mess. Feels more like mid summer baseball weather than football weather.
  13. Just don't hurt me again Lions, that's all I ask. I expect a loss tonight but I do expect the Lions to give the Chiefs a good game. They don't NEED to win tonight but they NEED to have a good showing after they've been touted as the new darlings of the NFL all offseason. Prove that this isn't SOL.
  14. Kelce is a massive loss for those guys. So much of their offense flows through him and he's Mahomes outlet when he's under pressure. Outside of Mahomes, he's their most important player even more important than Chris Jones IMO. With that said, any team led by Mahomes and Reid is going to be a handful but no Kelce alters the gameplan. I'm not convinced that convinced that Kelce will be out anyway.
  15. I never understood this mentality from fans. I couldn't care less if they beat them with or without Jones and Kelce as long as they get the W. People could put all the asterisks they want on it, doesn't mean jack to me, just be 1-0 after Week 1.
  16. It's like Golladay in a way. Holmes essentially traded Golladay for the rights for somebody else to pay him (the 3rd round compensatory pick). Hock is better than Golladay of course but let Minny take on that contract.
  17. Levi? He was actually very good in preseason so if that has any merit, there's an argument for him to get starting reps. It's not like the competition at DT is high level. It's likely that he'll just start as a rotational player along with the other two and Benito Jones I guess? Martin doesn't look NFL ready to me, he got swallowed up my guards from what I saw of him in preseason.
  18. Insanity, that's what it is. You don't trade young players with elite pass rushing traits, ever. I could give two hoots if he needs some work against the run. Pass rushers are gold in this league, they need to appreciate his strength instead of trying to make him something he's not (like having him drop in coverage at times etc.) I did find it odd that they had him in late in preseason games, makes me think that he's on the bubble for some ungodly reason.
  19. I don't think everybody expects that. The Lions are a national darling this offseason which is nice I suppose but also freaks me the hell out because, one, that's never been the case in my lifetime and, two, I hope they can handle the weight of expectations. With that said, a blowout loss would certainly be a "losing" situation. This team is at the point where they should be able to compete with anybody, conceding losses especially non-competitive ones to contenders shouldn't be acceptable anymore. I'm certain that the Lions locker room expects to win this game, not just keep it close.
  20. I also wondered about that. I don't know if he posts in the other forums but haven't seen him in the Lions one in a long time. My Prediction? Pain......for the Kansas City Chiefs. BNL!!!
  21. Glenn did the same in the regular season resorting to man to man when the defense clearly was better in zone so I'm not basing it on just preseason. With that said, the personnel is quite a bit different now than it was last season especially in the secondary so maybe that'll play more into their strengths.
  22. Glenn might be the biggest weakness on the team. The defense has always been better in zone yet he keeps resorting back to man to man. As for this game, I didn't watch it but it doesn't mean anything outside of end of the roster spots being won or lost. Just looking at stats, it seems like none of the bubble receivers stood out, Julian Okwara putting up bagels probably sealed his fate and as if we didn't know already, Sudfeld is getting cut. Other than that, I'm already bored of preseason, time to play some real games. One other note, I do think Campbell needs to play the starters for at least a quarter if not a half of the final preseason game. They need to get some live game reps under their belt, not sure if joint practices qualifies. Need to get on the same page for KC.
  23. Those guys were healthy and able to get on the field, he hasn't had his chance yet for a multitude of reasons. He did drop that one pass but he was open, he seems to get open a lot, so he should start bringing those in eventually.
  24. That's probably my biggest concern with him but I think that can be corrected with reps and maturity. I will say this, if he can't correct these issues with the leadership the Lions have in place coaches and players (in particular St. Brown and Raymond in that receiver room) then there's no hope for him. I'm still in wait and see mode because he hasn't really had a chance to play but I can understand the concern.
  25. They didn't run plays for him, you can clearly see that in real time. He was a decoy essentially. Whether that's because of him not being 100% healthy or just not having enough practice time under his belt to get to know the offense yet I don't know but there was a reason why he didn't contribute, because he wasn't being targeted, involved in the gameplan.
